  1. Just got off of the Vista. First night the MDR was slow for us. (Late seating in the Reflections Restaurant.) Our waiter recognized the problem and fixed it. He said that they had to have a meeting about reorganizing some things. Apparently it was done, because it was fixed.

  2. My husband and I just returned from a six day western Caribbean cruise on the Vista. This was our first time on a Carnival ship since most of our cruises have been with RCI.

We like the Vista and only had a few complaints. We thought the ship was beautifully designed with the exception of not having a big promenade with glass elevators. When you enter the ship you first see a circular bar and the funnel. The funnel thing was neat, but I think it needs a finer resolution to give a more realistic feel. I did just feel that I was walking into a bar and not a cruise ship.

We had a balcony cabin on the 8th deck. This was our first balcony and I will be hard pressed to spend for a balcony again. Friends of ours, who cruised with us, were disappointed since their last cruise was on a RCI Freedom class ship that has balconies about the twice the size. I could tell why. The balcony felt tight and we hardly used it. The cabin itself was nice and very clean. We had to fiddle with the TV to change the viewing setting because it was too dark. We changed it from Cinema to Sports view.

This is a big ship and has too many things to do on just one cruise. We spent sea day mornings on the Sports deck walking the track and using the outside exercise equipment. I was able to ride the Sky Ride four different times and loved it. I also did the easy part of the Sky Course once, but found that fear of my balancing abilities has come with age for me and after getting through the easy one, I didn't attempt the hard one. But, I did appreciate the around ten-year-old girl behind me with encouraging words that I can do it as I paused at some of the obstacles. :) I can just imagine what was going through her head as she waited for this old women to get through it. lol

Loved the food options. Never did make it to the BlueIguana Cantina, but we did try Guy's Burgers and the Pig and Anchor. Both were great. The burger place is available everyday, but the Pig and Anchor is only available for lunch on sea days. My husband wasn't impressed with the bar-b-que, but I was. We also had lunch when we got on at JiJi's Asian Kitchen. Great food.

The Lido deck has the Market Place, which is the buffet dining area. I was very impressed with this place. The design really separated the food areas from the seating areas and the place was huge with many food options. We never found this place too busy or too crowded. Seating was always available. The mornings we ate here we went to the Omelet Bar and never waited. Great omelets.

Walking around the ship, we found many outside seating areas to just relax. Some were covered if you didn't want direct sunlight. There are at least three pools, each with whirlpools, although one is in the Havana area and only open to non-Havana cruisers after 7:00 pm.. I also always saw pool chairs available at any of the pools.

My husband and I enjoy comedians and this ship had two on it. Shows were usually at 5:30 pm, 7:30 pm and 11:30 pm. Both comedians had PG-13 and R rated shows. Loved both versions from both comedians. We didn't catch Flick, but we did see American Rock. It was fine, nothing to write home about. It seemed just like a typical cruise production. We also watched the final Lip Sync Battle. We really enjoyed that one. The man won, but the woman - she was sixty-five years old but looked and danced like a much younger woman. Very impressive.

All of the cruise staff was very nice and professional. The MDR food was fantastic, better than RCI, in my opinion. I didn't make it to the late night events like the White party. We always plan, but then we never can stay up that late. We rise too early.

We stayed out of the casino, when it was our choice. Our Munster drill was there and we had to go through it while in line waiting for the Grand Cayman tenders. The casino stinks. It smells like stale smoke. It causes me to appreciate my parents even more since they were non-smokers and not growing up around it made it easy for me to never be tempted to start.

I would recommend this ship, but I won't return since I have too many other ships that I want to try.

  3. I just received an email that Carnival has cancelled the Jolly Roger pirate adventure snorkeling excursion in the Grand Cayman. This option has been completely removed from excursion options in Grand Cayman via Carnival. Unfortunately the form email did not include the reason why. I have emailed shore excursions asking why.

It is a shame because it had a lot of great reviews. The company's website is still up, but the contact page doesn't work in either my Chrome or Edge browser this morning. (I haven't tried Firefox yet.) :(:(:(:(

  4. I just read this article that explosive devices were found on ferries to and from cruise ships to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. According to the article, Carnival and Royal Caribbean were several shore excursions in these areas for the safety of passengers.

    Here s the article:https://cruiseradio.net/carnival-and-royal-cancel-cruise-excursions-following-state-department-warning/

We are sailing on the Vista March 18th and Cozumel is one of our ports. Fortunately, we booked our excursion through Carnival so if it is cancelled Carnival will refund us.

Does anyone else know more about this?

  5. In March I will be on the Vista. I am thinking about the Cheers package for convenience. Specialty coffee and soda are included with Cheers. Does anyone know where the specialty coffee would be available and is it really needed? How bad is the regular coffee?

Also, what diet sodas do they offer? I am assuming that diet Coke or Pepsi will be offered, but what about other diets like Sprite Zero?

Thank you for any help on this.

  6. My husband and I will be on the Vista in March. We were looking at the Mystic Mountain triple ride package "The Big Three" on Carnival (SKY EXPLORER, CANOPY & BOBSLED). Carnival wants $125 per person, but on the Mystic Mountain website, the price for all three plus round-trip transportation to and from Ocho Rios for 2 adults is: 149.69. I am going to see if Carnival will do their price match.

  7. working in the IT field for work, i hate hate when someone says the "computer is down"..that is technically incorrect. the computer is not down as in not working. it is the infrastructure that is down like the server, network communications, database issue, etc,etc

the computer at the check in desk/ guest services still works. it is whatever application/system they use.

I agree. I also just love "the computer wouldn't let me do it" and "the Internet is down."

:') Post of the day on CC !

  8. Vodka and milk of magnesia. It's called a Phillips Screwdriver. I'll wait for some of you...

    .

This one had me rolling on the floor. Lol

Yes, and for a smoother taste, I have a white Russian made with vanilla vodka.

Ooh that is a good idea. I also like

Kahlua and cream with coconut rum. There might be a name for that but I don't know. My sister gets a drink called a Smith and Kerns. (I think.) Name doesn't matter as she has to tell them how to make it. It's a kahlua and cream with club soda. Makes it much lighter than traditional kahlua and cream.

  9. Thank you kwokpot. The reason for my curiosity is that I found that the showers in RCCL's adult only area were bigger than the cabin showers and much easier to shave my legs in, so I would bring my toiletries to those showers at the end of the day. I also liked sitting in the dry saunas every once in a while. I am happy to know where to find them on the Vista.

  10. Next March my husband and I will be sailing on the Vista. This is our first time on Carnival and we are looking at the Cheers package. Like many other posters, I am trying to figure out if the ease of the program is worth it. I do not plan on drinking five or more alcoholic drinks a day, but I do like my coffee and I drink a lot of water.

Where would I get the "specialty coffees." I normally cruise with RCCL and get my coffee in the MDR or Windjammer (the Lido on Carnival). I have never gotten the drink package so I only drank the coffee from the drink dispensers and I really do prefer a higher quality coffee.

Can I get specialty coffee in the main dining room and or Lido cafe or do I need to go to a special coffee shop? Also, is the specialty coffee just fancy coffee drinks like lattes or cappuccinos, or just a good old fashioned cup of Colombian or other wonderful coffee country coffee?

  11. I love ghost stories. When I travel, I always try to book a "haunted" hotel. I haven't seen a ghost yet, but when I have traveled with my daughter, we have had some "weird" experiences. When I travel with my husband, nothing weird happens. I think he scares them off. lol

Here is a website that documents cruise ships' accidents and deaths. I doubt the death tallies are accurate because there are not many listed, but I still thought it would be interesting to some.

  12. Thank you for a mostly positive review. My husband and I are booked for March 2018 with two other couples. I am the instigator in this vacation and choice of boat, so if it is bad I am to blame, but if it is good, then I get the credit. :) Anyway, I always love my cruises, no matter which boat or port-of-call. I guess I am easy to please, but I still hope to have a bang-up vacation!!

  13. Thank you for this link. According to the website the balconies on all three rooms open up to each other. We are in 8326 which is connected to 8330 and next to 8330 is room 8336 (my room). Both 8326 and 8336 have balconies that open to 8330. Now if we could have the bar deliver to us. lol
