  1. I can say that after 20+ years of maintaining shipboard vacuum toilet systems, I have never had a clog caused by "incorrect" toilet paper. Paper towels, "handi-wipes", underwear, swimsuits, face cloths, hand towels, dinner napkins, crew uniforms, toothbrushes, crack pipes, coke spoons, and other things yes, toilet paper no.

I'll remember on my next cruise, not to flush my crack pipe!

  2. Our 10.4.15 cruise on the Breakaway has about 70+ people attending the M&G and within those people, we have about 20 celebrating birthdays or anniversaries, including my birthday (10.4)!!! I am looking forward to this M&G since it will be my first one & since I am cruising alone with my 9 year old, it gives me an opportunity to meet other people on board as well.

My first cruise on the Jewel back in 2011 had a roll call that was boring and a very half ass attempt at putting a M&G together. I think demographics plays a big part and as well as the itinerary. We will be on a ship for 3 days at sea before we reach our port so there's more time for people to attend the M&G. Maybe??

  3. My birthday is the day we sail, 10/4. Does the ship provide anything for free such as a small cake or does everything have to be paid for? I thought I saw something about a passenger getting a voucher to bring to one of the restaurants and they got a small little cake for maybe 2 people?! It's only me and my 9 year old going on the cruise so I know she can't order a cake for me and I know if I order a cake we both wont finish it. They look huge!

  4. If you booked through a TA any communication regarding that booking goes through the TA. Standard procedure.

Not true. I get emails from NCL when they upped the DSC. It seems they pick and choose which emails go to me directly.

When they want more money...email me. When they make some change about my cruise, email the TA. LOL.

  5. My travel agent just sent me the PDF with this email. Apparently NCL didn't email me directly, but waned him to. I don't mind since I booked through him but NCL emails me directly with promotions non stop, you would think something important would be emailed to me directly.

  6. My son is 5 and just going in to kindergarten. It's a new school and that's the only reason I'm skeptical about it. Maybe once school starts and he gets the hang of it I may be able to do it. I don't think that one will sell out. I was thinking of going solo. They still have those studio cabins, but I've never had an inside and they don't give you the drink package with that one.

    Go for it!!!

  7. I got a response today from an email I sent Monday night in regards to my October Bermuda cruise being shortened from 3 pm from the original 5 pm leave time. So where is this "official" letter they speak of? Taking their sweet time to get their act together.

    -------

    Dear Mrs. :

We are in receipt of the communication you sent to us regarding time changes in the port. There are many variables involved with changing port times. A letter is being sent to all the guest affected by the change.

We are sorry to learn that this has affected your vacation and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We thank you for choosing Norwegian Cruise Line for your vacation destination

    Sincerely,

Just made my final payment for my October cruise to Bermuda. I am really getting pissed off with all these changes. Yes they are small changes here and there but they add up to a lot. Especially in such a short period of time.

  8. I looked at doing this one. I love the Breakaway and really want to go to Bermuda. They aren't offering any deals for solos right now. I would take my son, but I don't want him to miss school that early in the year.

I am taking my daughter on the trip. She is 9 & will be entering 4th grade. Unfortunately due to my job, October and November are the times I am able to take a vacation. I figured they would just be reviewing things that early in the year.

  9. Hello!!! I am newly single going to Bermuda on 10/4/2015 (MY BIRTHDAY!!) on the NCL Breakaway. It was supposed to be my now ex, my 9 year old daughter and myself for my birthday, but just me and my daughter now. I know technically I am not a solo cruiser...but there's a lot of things I want to do that my daughter can't.

So if there are any other adults that will be on this ship, I would love to meet up for some adult time!!! :D:o:p

  10. When boarding the ships, NCL requests your credit card for incidentals. If you decide to use cash, you would have to have NCL hold on to $300 USD per person in your stateroom. Quite frankly, I don't feel comfortable bringing that much cash on board with me. At least with credit cards you can dispute charges and god forbid something happens to your card, you can always get a new card and those charges back. Once cash is gone...its gone!!

  11. How dare you spread rumors!!!! :p

I think it might have been speculation since the Escape has Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle characters on the ship. Who knows. Regardless what is on the ship, the Kids Crew is amazing and provide ample entertainment for the kids.

If NCL drops Nickelodeon, or vice versa, it will not make me change my mind about our future cruise in October or any others I plan on NCL.

  12. Here is a very recent review I wrote regarding the Gem and various aged kids:

    http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=501035&et_cid=2091656&et_rid=17307742&et_referrer=

I hope it helps a little.

Also, NCL has announced that it is ending the NCL/Nick relationship. You should check into that if you feel that is a part of what is motivating your move to NCL. My kids enjoyed the Nick elements, but not enough for us to make a decision based on that part of the overall cruise experience.

I didn't hear that this is official. Where did you get this information and do you know when? We are booked for the Breakaway in October.

To the OP- My daughter was 5 when we did the Nickelodeon at Sea program in 2011 on the Jewel. My daughter really enjoyed it and loved the Kids Crew programs. The Breakaway offers the program as well as the Gem, Epic, Jewel and Getaway.

Here is a link that will better help:

  13. Already booked and have some great promotions and a price already locked but I was looking at the shore excursion credit. We are sailing the Breakaway to Bermuda and only have one stop, Bermuda for 3 days. So are you saying we would just get $75 towards the 3 days in Bermuda, where as someone with an itinerary with 5 stops will receive $75 per stop? Totaling $375?

That doesn't seem fair. BOOO!! :D

  14. Viacom accounced a restructuring, I'm sure that will impact Nic properties. It's just as likely they pulled to try to find a better revenue source or until they decide what to keep going forward.

And I'm sure the "live" characters were a hit when they were on the air, but the kids from icarly and Victorious are in their 20s now, they're no longer kids.

I get that they are no longer kids. I was just using that as an example. There are plenty of new shows on Nick with actors ranging from 8-18.
