  1. I’m told that she will leave the fleet in September this year, very sad, but I can understand the two Cloud and Wind are a lot more economical to run now, and with a plethora of new expedition ships entering the market I guess her days were numbered.

  2. I think Whisper is about to be cancelled and Shadow will do three ten day sailings around Iceland 🇮🇸 in August before picking up her regular schedule. Staff are assembling now and  guarentining on Shadow and have been for some days now. There is no such activity on Whisper.

Spirit also cancelled for July and August, and yes Muse heading to Alaska for limited sailings out of Seattle, this summer.

tune in to Barbara Muckerman tomorrow for all the details.

  3. I think the always available is just that , and yes you can request it in MDR, but always available is perhaps a wider selection in MDR.

Wine pairing dinners are possible in La Dame only, I think.

Yes indeed if you book multiple La Dame, or any other restaurant for that matter, and then cancel, no problem, no cost to you, and it frees up the table for others.

  4. Yes the Crew Fund is another avenue, and I have been on many long  Special Expedition Cruises where a map of the Voyage is auctioned on the last night, and all the receipts ( sometimes 2-3 thousand $ )  go to the  Crew Fund.

  5. Indeed the Excellent Crew are recognised on Silversea with Employee of the Month presentations, and over the years I have been present at a great many of these on the farewell evening when the Crew Parade, and the HR Manager together with the Captain will present the Crew, sometimes more than one, with certificate and reward, which I believe is monetary.

You are absolutely correct, the Crew are one of Silversea’s enduring legacy’s and greatest strength, and long may that be the case.

There was a Cruise Director some years ago now who always introduced the Crew by referring to them as the ‘Ladies and Gentlemen of Silversea’.

The HD is Fabian.I believe he is new.Certainly young. We caught up with him today at the Virtuoso reception.

Fabian has been with Silversea for many years now, I would think 6-10 years and we knew him when HD on The Explorer before he moved onto the Classic Fleet. He is now the Senior HD and all the others report to him, he is rarely at Sea these days and normally based in Monaco where he specialises in the planning stocking etc for the new Ships as they develop.

A really charming young man and imho an excellent Hotelier.

  7. S.A.L.T. is an acronym for Sea and Land Taste, according to a recently received eshot from the M D of S S in London.

Designed in collaboration with Adam Sachs a multi award winning journalist the new S.A.L.T. Program will be tailored according to where the Ships are sailing and will incorporate both ship based and shoreside enrichments including market trips, winery visits, and dining experiences in regional restaurants and bars.

A dedicated S.A.L.T. Lab to explore culinary cultures from around the world  and a new S.A.L.T. Restaurant will serve regional cuisine that will adapt according to where you are sailing.

Adam Sachs is the Director of Silversea’s Sea and Land Taste project.

There is no mention of this concept rolling out to other ships in the eshot I have received

  8. We got off the Whisper this time last year in Manhattan and it was a breeze, took no more than ten minutes for luggage and immigration, in fact we were so early we then had to wait for our car.

There are Porters to trolly the luggage if you need them, we did and he got us through promptly.

  9. Oh, you also asked about the Water Taxi.....it picks up at different points......if you stay at The Hyatt (Pier 66)

or at The Riverside....both have a pick up point right near them and I have taken that water taxi several times.

It is quite fun:)…..restaurants...…..there are multiple ones. Let me think and I will post some that I have enjoyed over the years.

And whoever else I missed for Anniversaries...…..Happy one to all of you who are celebrating:D

Pier 66 is no longer managed by Hyatt, they pulled out last year as the Owner would not invest in the property, I saw it in April this year and it looks very tired and shabby.

We stayed at The Ritz Carlton which was excellent , and a great location.

Four Seasons were under construction with a hotel and residences but imagine that will not be complete yet.

  10. Does anybody have any firm information as to when The Shadow will finally get an upgrade?

Last time we were on, in a Silver Suite (three years ago) it was poor decor and furnishing/ upholstery wise, and I understand nothing has happened since that time.

A shame as some very good 2019 itinerary’s but we will not book, and we are normally a party of six, until the Ship is significantly upgraded.

I know S S do not own this Vessel so maybe it’s not a priority for them, but with Mediterranean season coming up, surely it needs attention ?

Any comments much appreciated especially from S S !

  11. I would be very grateful if anyone knows who will be the Cruise Dir, Hotel Dir, or Guest Relations on The Silver Muse when it crosses the Atlantic in May.

    Joe_90

Hotel Director will be Paolo he just re joined.

  12. Had a very good day at anchor today in St Barths, excellent tour, but sad to see all the fine hotels are so devastated, they will be pushed to be ready to open for next season.

Eclipse is anchored here with Le Grand Blue and they both look larger than the Sea Dream ( formally Sea Goddess) which is also here.

Strange to recall that back in the early eighties Sea Goddess was the first of the high quality all inclusive lines before Seabourn or S S started. I wonder how many readers remember those two little ships ?
