  1. Our last Carnival cruise we booked five cabins, one a suite and one a suite with a wrap around balcony (jr suite?). Only my husband received the offer...not me.

Right. But maybe the two of you are always booked in one together?? My husband and I are always booked in separate cabins; each of us with one of our sons (not that we stay in them in that configuration, of course). ;)

But who really knows the criteria, if any? I'm delighted to have the deal, that's for sure. We never are able to go when prices are low because of our kids' school schedules, so this is a great break for us.

  2. My DH got the letter. I didn't. We both have exactly 198 days sailed on Carnival, never have much of a shipboard account, don't gamble. We last sailed in November but have nothing booked with them in the future. He always gets the email survey also and I never have. Who knows what crystal ball they use??

We don't spend enough money to be a desirable candidate for Carnival and we actually prefer other lines now anyway. Unfortunately, even a free cruise doesn't tempt me a whole lot but maybe it's because we just got home yesterday from a 10 day cruise and the laundry isn't even done!

Maybe my husband and I both got them because we book two cabins/suites for four people. I bet if it were just the two of us, only one of us would have gotten the offer.

Would love to have the time to book a 10 day! Someday….

  3. My PVP told me this morning that the free cruises were offered to some people that spent alot in the casino. I told him that I have been reading about people that didn't spend any in the casino and getting one...so then he sent me an email back and said that was strange because all the ones he has dealt with played the casino............

I never drop so much as a penny in the casinos--just not our thing--but we do usually book suites with connecting cabins for our kids. So that's some cash spent, but I have a feeling it was either random, or they looked at how long it had been since we had cruised with them, and perhaps that's why we received the offers.

  4. From the boards, it appears that this promo is targeted at past passengers who haven't sailed on Carnival for a while..

And that would be us! We had booked not even a week ago an aft Jr. suite with a large interior across the hall on a 7 day Grandeur of the Seas out of Baltimore on 4/12. Paid way more than we wanted to, but OK… Then, yesterday, my husband and I each received this "free cabin" offer from Carnival. I could hardly believe it was real, but we booked two side by side extended balconies on the Pride leaving Baltimore on April 13th, and cancelled the RCI cruise.

The crazy thing is, it cost way more for us to cancel the Grandeur than what the full fare plus taxes, insurance, and gratuities came to for the two new Pride cabins! But how could we resist??

And my two teenage boys are thrilled! They love a Carnival cruise!

  5. I think the airline fees have definitely impacted peoples' willingness to participate in elegant night!!

Very true. It's different if you're just driving or taking a cab to the ship.

I was thinking about how much travel has changed since I was 23 and first set foot on a ship in Dec. 1984 ....it was a lot easier then in many ways.

  6. We have to attend a lot of Broadway openings in our real life--my husband wears a tux eight times a week--but that's work; it's fun, of course, but it's still a job.

However, formal night on a ship is different. I never feel like I HAVE to get dress up--I WANT to get dressed-up. Taking our time, getting dressed for a dinner and an evening just for us, just for the pleasure of it, is a delight. My husband will break out the white dinner jacket or a suit and I give one of my opening night dresses a second shot. I feel extra sexy and beautiful and my husband is so proud of me on his arm--it's a great feeling.

I also like dressing well (not fancy, just appropriately nice--well-put-together-like)on cruises in general. I mean, there's no reason not to--I don't have to scrub the floors, or cook a dinner --I don't have to do anything but relax and pamper myself and enjoy everyone's company. I also appreciate good grooming in others.

    I'm a bit old-fashioned, I'm sure.

  7. My husband and I stayed at San Souci back when it was a private property--in 1992! It was our honey moon and it was very calm and beautiful. A little piece of heaven, it was.

I imagine it has changed somewhat being part of the Super Clubs and Couples; new buildings to accommodate more guests--but back then it was a very special place--quite small and unique. Very Beautiful.

  8. I just booked this for my husband and me. $34.50 for the two of us and it does state the following on my confirmation:

An invitation to the Riedel Wine Glass Workshop with the time, date and location will be provided in your stateroom upon arrival, along with a coupon to redeem your Riedel Tasting Set on-line through our Celebrity Vineyards website.

    On the Beverages web page:

    Riedel Comparative Wine Crystal Workshop

Conducted by highly-trained Celebrity sommeliers, this seminar includes the opportunity to savor four different varietals from our superb collection of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, and their matching stemware. The wines are transferred into each glass to illustrate how the aromas and flavors of the wine change from glass to glass. Participants receive a set of Riedel stemware to take or ship home (shipping not included).

*Starting from: 15.00 USD Per Package

If anything, Celebrity will need to provide an equivalent in stemware. They advertise the stemware IS included, therefore, they need to fulfill their agreement, just as we fullfill our agreement of payment and follow their cancellation policy.

    Monica

Hear, hear, you are absolutely correct.
