  1. Just returned from Cozumel and we had a tour with Victor. We kept him past the 3 hours minimum and could have spent the entire day if we had more time in port.

We had been to Cozumel many times and this was absolutely the best visit yet.

I don't remember who recommended them on this board but thanks!

What all did you do? Looking for ideas on my next trip. I've used tours plaza and they are great!

  2. This policy is brand new, started Sep 1, so we have no feedback on the process as yet.

So I'm probably going to ask a stupid question now. I assume this policy is per person not per room?

I am so glad they allow you to bring 12 cans of soda on board now ,that will save me so much money. I have a diet Coke addiction LOL

  3. You'll probably be fine in anything. We were told years ago on the explorer to come straight from the beach and we'd be served. We would never do that but i've seen people in some pretty non formal outfits (extra tight and thin white ribbed tank, no bra).

  4. May I suggest looking into Maya Chan or Almaplena as beach options. Both are AIs but both are south of the malecon beach clubs and have great service.

The caveat is that to get to transportation to go to either, you'll need to walk outside the cruise port to the taxi stand. If the resort doesn't include information on how to pick up transportation, the taxi captain will gladly assist and get you the type of taxi you need. He can also assist in getting a taxi for any touring you may wish to do on your own. However, I do suggest contacting Native Choice directly and seeing if they have excursions that might be accommodating to you and your grandma.

  5. I have been researching what to do when we are in Cozumel and the “wild side” seems very intriguing.

I am thinking of hiring a taxi for the day and just skipping around exploring the east side of Cozumel.

Has anyone ever done this? Does anyone have any experience with hiring a taxi for the day? Is it better to go through a tour operator or can you just hire a taxi for the day at the taxi stand? Is it safe?

If anyone has explored the wild side, do any of you have any recommendations on where to go? Is Punta Sur part of the “wild side”.

I want to go somewhere where I am guaranteed to see beautiful white sand with CLEAR blue water. I’ve been to Nachi, and Fury Beach on a Carnival excursion, and some other beach that I don’t recall what it’s name was but at all of them the water was cloudy and seemed dirty.

Yes in 2016 we went with Tours Plaza, I highly recommend them and the wild side. Playa Bonita for lunch was excellent. The whole day was excellent!

Used them in 2016 and it was a perfect day. Very reasonable and you design your day.

  7. Palancar Beach if you just want to stay at one place.

If you don’t want to swim or stay put I would hire a driver for the day. We pre-reserve ToursPlaza (or you can get a taxi from the pier for a set number of hours) and take a ride round the island and experience many different beaches. The east side of the island is much different - more rustic, wild beaches compared to the more touristy beach bars of the west side and it would be good to experience both. On the east side I would suggest Punta Morena, Coconuts(for view), Chen Rio, Rasta’s, El Mirador, blow holes, Punta Sur and on the west side Palancar, Paradise ($3pp entrance and $10 food and drink minimum, although we have stopped for a drink and look round and not been charged that). Google these names for photos.

Punta Sur can also be an enjoyable day if you google. Again I would have a driver who will stay with you. There is an entrance charge but you can climb the lighthouse and explore the coastline. Unfortunately the east side is experiencing the sargassum problem that is presently affecting much of the Caribbean so conditions may vary depending on when you are going.

Tours plaza is great and I highly recommending driving the unspoiled coast and enjoying those beaches. Personally much better than an AI beach day. IMG_3575.thumb.jpg.03a42e1f18456d3faf59a65b552c5008.jpg

  8. Good Evening!

My grandma and I were in Cozumel a few times, most recently in 2016. In 2016 we hired a taxi (Tours Plaza) for the afternoon and went to a small ruins site then traveled the unspoiled coast "wild side". We will be returning late February. We would love suggestions that take us away from the beach clubs and tourists and over to the wildside.

    Here's a little about us...

I'm 36 and out of shape, my grandma is 75 and has arthritis, so the less stairs or steep trails the better. We like to see the natural beauty of a place. We prefer to avoid the main tourist spots and beach clubs. We love to just hire a driver so we dont have to worry about transportation back to the ship and would be happy using Tours Plaza again but would like some other must sees and ideas. We also loved to be on tge ocean so boat tours / speed boat trips would also interest us.

    Any suggestions welcomed.

    Thanks so much!

  9. Good Evening!

My grandma and I were in Costa Maya roughly 10/11 years ago when it wasn't super touristy. She was there once prior to that and went to Tulum (which she loved). We will be returning late February. We are looking for a safe but less crowded beach to visit.

    Private taxi tour companies?

    Beaches?

    Must see historic sites?

    Thanks so much!
