  1. I typically make lots of friends on cruises, but I haven't gone solo before. I'm kind of intrigued by the idea.

For the sailing I am looking at, there is a solo discount that makes the solo price close to the same as double occupancy

I’m going to guess the Balcony is a sail away rate, no perk.

  2. Just got a copy of an email chain saying POA will resume both ports.

Major development…! we have been instructed from the very top to reinstate to original itinerary (Hilo & Kona) with immediate effect starting next cruise, if possible. Please check if the ports are available accordingly & revert.

    Thanks,

Capt. Bjorn Ove Hansen | Vice President Nautical & Port Operations

please review the current situation regarding any berthing conflict and if possible convert to the original itinerary of the POA possibly starting this coming Saturday.

Please confirm once everything is aligned in order to issue the general notification once again. this to include the reinstatement of Hilo and Kona.

I will send a separate message to the Captain in order to confirm the modus operandi going forward with respect to the safety of the vessel and guests and crew

    thanks and best regards

  3. I've seen a million questions about UBP, but not this one: using our UBP, can DW and I go to Topsiders (or any other bar onboard) and ask for a couple of unopened beers so we can take back to the room and enjoy later??

You can ask, they’ll probably say no. I had a bartender who would do this, but I tipped him well the entire cruise.

  4. Wow you people are nasty! If my post is dumb carry on & don’t respond!

Not nasty, just find your post rather pointless and without any substance. If you have a credible issue about NCL then by all means post it with rationale, but saying internet should be free when it is charged for on most every cruise line and many hotel chains/resorts as well is well...dumb.

  5. my son is 13.5, I am wondering what the teen lounge is like. He is pretty introverted, I’m wondering if they have any organized activities, or it’s just people hanging out. Do they have up to date video games and such? We only have a few sea days but I don’t really want him holed up in the cabin (we aren’t getting internet service deliberately...) he’s not sporty either so won’t do the ropes etc...

There are all kinds of kids on the boat. Encourage him to be adventurous and remind him that no one knows who he is at home and doesn’t have to be that guy. 🤷*♂️

  6. I hope you enjoy your cruise! Can you make reservations for Los Lobos on the Sun?

You can. Unless you buy 3 or 4 SDP option it’s probably not worth using a credit and better to go a la carte. Everything I had was very good except refried beans. Sometimes I wonder if the guys cooking have ever eaten in a ____ restaurant. [emoji23]

  7. txagfan, how's the Sun? I'm on it next week, first time. Thanks in advance for any info!

I sailed on the Sun last year to Alaska (prior to refurb) and thought it was very nice. You can see the refurb in common areas and still nice. I’m sailing to Key West and Cuba since I’d never been so it’s for the ports, but I wouldn’t hesitate to sail her again. I won’t lie, I do prefer a bigger ship though as a guy in his 30’s. There’s just a younger vibe to the whole thing.

  8. Disappointed I thought we would check it out for lunch.:(

Las ramblas? You are not missing anything there. Was just a very sad bar for Cagneys. I’m on Sun now and los lobos is a big improvement.

  9. I know this is an older thread, I booked my Cuba cruise departing Monday on Thursday (last night). I filled out the form (~3 days per prior per requirement), but no confirmation or anything? Makes me nervous to get to pier and have no visa. If they said I could get it AT the pier I'd feel a little more comfortable like I had a backup in case NCL drops the ball.

  10. Call CAS cause I got my cruise on the Sky comped

How much do you play and do you literally just call? I gamble more than I should when onboard and have never really pursued this. I don’t get a lot of points, but my actual/hypothetical losses which is other thing they base comps on is pretty high.

  11. Probably if you're willing to fly and stay overnight in Moscow. No way you can drive both ways, just check Google Maps. I'm not even sure if you're able to even hop on a flight with a visa (probably able to) but since you need a tourist visa to enter the country, it's best to talk to a tour operator to figure out your options.

There is high speed rail (4 hours) as well as overnight trains with sleepers. I am fairly adventurous having traveled a lot and I think this would be a very aggressive plan unless skipping St Petersburg completely. Plane is an option, but will take longer than 4 hours once you add in transit time to/from airports.

Seat61.com is definitive best source of train travel info for most of the world.

  12. I travel all over the world, I don’t wear any jewelry when traveling outside US so in Port I leave my watch and ring in safe. I don’t need $10k+ in enticements on my body whether it’s Mexico or Europe and I may not be 100% confident in my surroundings.
