  1. Ok, so despite having cruise for many years, I never did go to a spa. I'll be going on the MSC Seaside ship solo and I am willing to try it out. But I have no clue what to look for. All I want is a nice massage. I workout 4-5 times a week, so my back is at a point where it's a little tense and a massage is badly needed. What package do you all recommend???

On the website, they list three things that I think answers what I need.

    1) Relaxing Touch X 2 (can this be for 1 person?)

    2) Relaxing Wave

    3) Relaxing Wave X 2 (Same question as #1)

Also, I'll be staying on port days, am I better off not booking advance as they may offer big discounts on port days??? Also, once I go for spa booking, do I have to bring anything or is everything provided for?

I know it's alot of questions at once, but as I have no clue what package to look for, I am hoping a few cruise veterans here can guide me to the right decision.

  2. I usually tend to eat alone, because that's how I am. I've never been good with talking to strangers and that is still okay. When cruising solo, I do what I feel like. If I don't feel like talking, I just don't. If I do click with a few people on the ship so be it. I usually stay on the ship on days where the ship stops at a port unless the ship has a beach excursion. Other than that, I read, drink and most importantly relax. Listen to some good music (usually songs from the band Sublime is perfect for that type of environment).

  3. I'll be going solo on MSC this April and I am still stuck between deciding to stay on the ship or if it's actually worth going with the cruises beach excursion which this is the description. All I want to do is relax:

"A sure way to fully enjoy your beach day at Costa Maya is by visiting the Private Beach Club. Located about 40 minutes from the pier. You will find yourself immersed between beautiful palm trees and crystal waters of the Caribbean Sea. The staff will make sure you enjoy your day. This tour includes an open bar and Mexican buffet. Throughout, enjoy the white sandy beach of Costa Maya. Enjoy the bridge that will take you to a snorkeling area and a fun zip line. This is a truly tour for everyone. Lots of family fun and some relaxing areas that will make your day at Mahahual unforgettable. As you arrive, the hosts will give you a quick orientation of the areas and facilities available for you."

I know people will suggest me to go with some other tour company, but if I were to go on a beach excursion, I would still want to book with the ship just for security reasons and to have a piece of mind. But are the beaches like the one described for the excursion worth going to?

  4. Hey, it's your vacation ! Do as you please !

Port days are a great time to enjoy a less crowded ship !

Now the ship shops and the casino are normally closed on port days, but if you are not planning to go to these places then great !

    Have a great time !

Nope, casino will be for nightime, during the day I just want sun, beer and food :')

  5. I am going on the MSC Seaside (Western Carribean) ship in April and I am going there just to relax. I have the choice to go either at a beach at extra cost or relax on the ship and have all the free food and drinks. I find it would be wiser for me to stay on the ship all week then spend extra bucks just to go at a place which I will be doing the samething as on the ship with the only difference that there is sand and the food + drinks would cost more when I have it free on the ship. Am I crazy to want to just chill on the ship all week?

  6. I have italian heritage, so this ship would suit me. Now my question to you, which beaches excursions did you do. I am thinking of booking only beaches excursions, but I am not sure which one. Oh, and what languages do the staff speak in general...the reason I ask is because I can speak English, italian, french and a poor spanish. I could communicate with their language of choice.

  7. I wouldn't be brave enough. So they take you through the country side and we started high up. So it was nearly down hill the whole way. I don't like going fast &, I had a death grip on the breaks.

The tour guides were lovely and scenery was stunning. I liked the chicken jerk and the sea. There were cliffs or a pier you could jump off of. Which I did and enjoyed.

I'm glad I did it once. Also some of the other ladies in the group chose to ride down in the truck.

There's a truck that follows you around?

  8. Any suggestions or tips to give me. I am going there solo, just for R&R and considering I have italian heritage, I think this ship would fit in well with me. What languages do the employees speak best (FYI, I am able to speak Italian, French and English...and a poor Spanish, but I understand it). What about the food, what do you recommend???

As for the excursions, my ship stops in Ocho Rios, Cayman Island, Costa Maya and Cozumel. I am thinking of staying on the ship while in Jamaica because of the situation going on there, but I was thinking of doing their cycling tours which ends at a beach. Has anyone done the cycling tours with MSC?? How big was their group? Was it any fun?

FYI, I'll be going solo which is why I'll be sticking with the MSC excursions. That's non negotiable to me as I want to have a peace of mind.

  9. Is there a reason you want to visit a beach in Jamaica? The beaches on the coast near Ocho aren’t all that great. I’ve been to Jamaica at least a dozen different times from Ocho to MB- to negril and even the much less traveled south coast. The only beach I would return to for a beach experience is NEgril and that not an option from where MSc docks. Does your itinerary also take you to grand cayman by chance? If so, infinitely better beaches there. And as a solo, you are aware of the civil unrest in parishes close to Ocho? You probably are, but I’d feel terrible if you were unaware and I didn’t mention anything.

I guess I'll stay in my ship and tan on the boat. But I did hear something, I just don't know what are my options. Also, I chose the Cayman cycling tour in Cayman Island, it brings you all the way to the seven miles beach, reviews seems great about that beach.

  10. So I booked with MSC Seaside for April and the ship will be landing in Ocho Rios in Jamaica. Now I want to go on a beach, the two beach excursion offered by MSC is the VIP Bamboo Beach and the Ocho Rios Beach Break. I read the reviews for the Bamboo Beach, it had mixed reviews....but I have no information about the Ocho Rios Beach break, what beach is it at? Is it private? Are there sellers at the beach to the point that they can be aggressive?? Has anyone done the Ocho Rios Beach Break and can tell me what they thought about it?

PS I am going solo and that is the reason I want to book with the ship, basically for security reasons and to be sure I get back to the ship on time. So please do not suggest me to go on another tour company or a cab. Especially with how things are going down there, I don't want to take any chances.

  11. I went tubing in Jamaica last year as a solo. It was a good excursion, I had fun. I also felt safe. Just part of the group, rather that being singled out as a solo cruiser.

I do not really enjoy beach excursions as a solo. Kind of isolating for me personally. No one to watch my stuff on the beach...

I love relaxing at the beach, I don't mind leaving my stuff on the beach either, it's not like I have anything valuable to bring, I usually keep my stuff with me even when im in the water. I put my stuff in a waterproof plastic that I keep in my pockets, so that does not worry me.

  12. I booked my cruise with NCL Epic next week and I already chose my two excursions for Cozumel and Costa Maya through NCL....However, I have no clue for Jamaica on which one to chose, I want an excursion in which I feel safe, will have fun, won't have many vendors...for sure I will be booking through with NCL (I feel more secure going with a group). So far I like the Aqua Tubing w beach or River's Dunn fall w beach. I am leaning more towards Aqua Tubing, because many people comment about the vendors at River's Dunn fall....anyone have any suggestions?

  13. I booked mine on January 12th 2013, I can't wait. I already been with Epic last year and I thought it was awesome, the room is small, but for one person its just fine. Either way, I was rarely in my room except to sleep.
