  1. Good point. Turnpike traffic can be unpredictable. My Newark Airport recommendation would be the park, sleep, cruise package from trinityreservations.com at the Ramada Plaza - $219 tax included for hotel, 21 days parking, and round trip port transportation. The hotel alone is $130 prepaid tax included and $160 not prepaid tax included plus $16 to park. Parking at the port is $180 for 9 days. I used this package last Feb and was very happy with it. I was in my car headed back to Boston at 8:30 am.

Do you think this is a better choice than the Hilton Garden Inn Staten Island? We can get their park, stay, cruise package for $200.

Our cruise is only a 4 day so parking at the port is at most $100, I'm not sure if Monday will count as a day since we get back that day.

Wondering if maybe we should just take the train.

  2. Driving up from DC June 21 for the June 22 Anthem cruise. Will be leaving around 8pm and looking for a clean, comfortable place to sleep. No frills needed. Hoping to sleep in until 9ish and then head to the port. We scheduled an 11:30 check in. Any suggestions on where we should stay? Thank you!!

(I asked a similar question a few months ago, but now we've narrowed down our schedule.) :)

  3. June 21, right? For 4 nights it is more economical to pay the $80 to park at the port. Look at Day's Inn in East Windsor for starters. It doesn't really pay to stay north of Exit 8A on the NJ Turnpike. You will find some cheaper hotels near Exit 7. I have stayed at Days Inn and it was fine and it's right at exit 8.

Yes June 21. Thank you. We'll look into that one.

  4. It's a weekday ... way, way too close, not even margins for delays, traffic, flat tire, detours & accidents, etc. coming up I-95, thru DE and onto NJ Turnpike as there's essentially no other shortcut if there's a major incident last minute.

Leaving as late as 9:30 am is a totally lousy idea.

Your absolute first priority is to not miss the ship. It's first stop is Bermuda two days later.

I've sailed from Cape Liberty many many times coming a similar distance from the Boston area. I actually had a rather death defying arrival one time around 2:30 pm on a cruise bus having left Braintree Mass at about 6 am. However, RCL knew we were coming so we were not on their "dodo" list. I've also driven down the morning of the cruise, but I was on the road from my house NW of Boston at 5:30 am and didn't have to deal with any real metro traffic until I got as far as Hartford, CT.

I have two suggestions. First - come up the night before. Book the trinityreservations.com park, sleep, cruise package for $219 tax included at the Ramada Plaza. This includes parking for your 9 day cruise ($180 value), room, and round trip port transportation. I did this in Feb and was very happy with the package.

Second - drive up the night before at least as far as Delaware or South Jersey and get a motel room. I can make recommendations a bit further up at exit 8 and 8a on the NJ Turnpike, which is about an hour from the port. When I cruised with my mother, I made this trip many times from exit 8 leaving around 9:30 am.

Thanks guys. So we'll head up the night before. Our cruise is only 4 nights. Is there any other suggestions for places to stay for the night that include parking? We'll be getting there late and just sleeping so no need for anything fancy.

  5. Oh no!! Well I suppose it is quite ironic that we are on an upcoming Allure cruise booked with our vouchers from our ill fated Adventure cruise last March where we sat in San Juan for days awaiting the removal of a broken propeller blade. Here's hoping we don't sit in FLL for days.

  6. I clicked on your review because your username was familiar. I remember your Adventure thread from last March. We also traveled on Adventure with our young boys last March a sailing or so after you. :)

We leave in a few weeks for Disney for a week before driving to FLL to board Allure, not Oasis but close. Great minds think alike. Can't wait to read your review.

Your little guy is a cutie!!

  7. We were booked on an Oasis for Feb 2015 and when I checked that sailing today the prices hadn't gone down. We got an amazing deal when we booked. We had 2 rooms booked. We were able to switch to Allure and get 3 rooms in the same category for $528 less. Which doesn't sound like a lot of $$$ but we got a third room. We probably could have upgraded but we really want to stay in the category we're in.

I was also able to book a cruise during Spring Break that I had priced out last week at $1400 more for 2 rooms and got 3 rooms instead of 2 for that sailing as well.

    Yay for savings!!

I know a thread got merged here that cautioned people to read the fine print but I was wondering if someone wasn't sure of what dates they wanted to sail why couldn't they just book both and cancel one once they decide which they'd like? Other than tying up your deposit while you decide what other drawback would there be?

  8. We sailed on Adventure in March with my almost 4 year old. He loved Adventure Ocean and didn't want to spend any time with us. He kept begging to go back up there any time we tried to get him to come with us. We asked for a phone so they could get in touch with us but they told us they don't work very well so they never gave us one. On our sailing they actually combined a few of the groups a few of the days because the overall number of kids using Adventure Ocean was so small. My son went daily and there was normally only 2 other kids in his age group at most. So a few times they were in with the older kids.

  9. I think I know the answer but just double checking. Are price drops sailing-wide, or done by category? If a certain category sells out there will be no more price drops for that category, since there are no more available rooms, right? At that point you would want to watch for a price drop in the category above to get an upgrade, correct?

  10. We have stayed in 1388 on both AOS and NOS. It is similar to 1400 on the Freedom class. We love that cabin. We have never heard noise from the WJ and had no privacy issues. But we were 3-4 people so the extra space was glorious for us. Do be aware of the pole if you choose that cabin. My 16 month old fell backwards off the bed and hit his head on the metal.collar around the pole requiring a couple stitches. We'd still book that room again in a heartbeat. I actually decided not to choose IOS for our next cruise since 1400/1700 wasn't available.

  11. If I was able to drive to port, then I would be on that ship!! So far no ships in Tennessee, LOL! It's always a flight for us.

Yeah with 2 little kids the thought of not having to try to make sure our suitcases don't exceed 50lbs is certainly pulling us towards Quantum. :)

I do want to thank you guys for pointing out the balcony point. I hadn't given it too much thought really but that certainly saves some money there of we skip it.
