  1. Looking for activities in Saint John, Bar Harbor, and Halifax for kids, ages 4 & 7.  I am not familiar with any of these ports except that there is a lot of sight seeing.  I'm looking for things that might be more interactive for the kids... something along the shoreline that involve finding sea treasures/creatures, caves, animals, etc that don't require us to be on a boat, as we may get seasick.  We are from Hawaii and our cruises mainly have been in the Caribbean and the Pacific Coast but wanted to explore somewhere different. We will be cruising mid July.

  2. We just got off the liberty and our departure was pretty delayed. We were at port by 6:00 so I'm not sure what the delay was. I think self walk off we're getting off the ship after 8:45 or 9:00. Disembarking took a long time too. We had a 9:15 departure tag and a 10:00 shuttle pick up. We were group 8 and we got off with groups 1-3 out of over 35 groups. We got out at 10:30. Luckily our shuttle waited for us and we had an afternoon flight. Another couple had a 1:00 flight that they were nervous about making as well. 11:00 might be a bit early in case something delays your disembarkation.

  3. Or are you trying to find transportation? I think taxi. But that's really expensive from honolulu. The bus but that will take a long time and you need to consider traffic heading out from Honolulu to dole during the week. Traffic starts building from 2:00/2:30 and you won't want to be stuck in it. Coming back into town and into Waikiki will be bad in afternoon traffic as well.

  4. come in before or stay after cruise , Galveston Island is a tourist destination with more to do than most ports of call.

I wish we were able to but we have to travel to our next destination the next day and are flying in the night before. Booked this trip just a few weeks ago and didn't research the port. Hopefully we'll be able to return to sail out of Galveston again.

  5. Yeah, people asking questions about cruises on the Holland America boards are usually sailing on HAL. ;)

Well in my defense, I was NOT on the Holland boards. This post was under "TRENDING" where all cruise lines and posts fall if they are current. So I only realized it when I saw "Holland" under the post in small faded lettering. Next time I'll be sure to look at that first before posting so I don't offend anyone. I'll delete my post next time. Or you could just ignore it? [emoji849]

  6. I would say grand cayman. I've visited there almost 10 years ago. Went to stingray city to swim with the stingrays. I loved it. Although I may be biased as that was the sole reason we took the cruise in the first place. We will be visiting costa maya in a week on our cruise and I'm having trouble finding something to do there besides snorkel or go to visit some ruins or go to a beach. We live near beaches so for us that's not a priority on a cruise. We like to experience different things and have already seen some ruins before so looking for something different to do. That's my opinion. Others may feel differently.

  7. Why laundry soap? Their laundry is taken care of for them.

Is it? Once on a cruise we had bought a box to do our laundry and didn't want to take it home with us so we asked our stateroom attendant if he wanted it. He took it willingly and was appreciative of it so I'm guessing some have to do their own laundry. I believe this was on a Princess cruise.

  8. We started cruising in 2004, we have completed 19 cruises and have 3 more coming within the year....thought I would show what we have been doing with our old cruise cards.....we select a favourite picture of the cruise and type in cruise info to end up with a picture like the ones below, just a thought for those who may be wondering what to do with them

    Love this!!

  9. Idk if you can get any on a cruise ship but I remember someone I met on a cruise in Europe who collected patches from different places he had been to. He had them sewn on his backpack. He gave us a patch from where he was from, which was so nice of him. I thought that was a neat way to remember different places you've experienced.

  10. To be honest, I am very bad at making these decisions, especially with cruise ships! I loved that both of them had waterslides. You are correct about the Splashaway Bay Aqua Park on Liberty, it has a pool and two small whirlpools, whereas the one on Harmony has one larger whirlpool but no pool. They both have designated baby splash zones for children in diapers, separate from the rest of the splash area. I would agree that the splash area on Liberty may be a little bit larger, so if that's what you prefer then I would take that into consideration.

They both have the Adventure Ocean children's program as well. Harmony was very similar overall to Oasis and Allure, but you could definitely tell it was more than just an exact copy. Many people say it feels like a Quantum class, but I have never sailed Quantum class so I cannot comment on that, however having seen pictures of Quantum class ships, Harmony does have a lot of the same decor and new features as the Quantum class ships. It's like Oasis/ Allure, but with its own twist.

It's definitely original in many ways, but if the splash park is the main deciding factor, I'd go with Liberty, and not to mention it will likely be cheaper since it's not a fairly new ship like Harmony is. However, if there's more to your decision than the splash park, I'd have a tough time deciding myself! They're both wonderful ships. I hope I was able to help, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you! That was helpful. I think we've decided on liberty for several factors. After looking at harmony and oasis, I do agree that it's similar but grander. We will miss the boardwalk though! The price for our sailing window is not too much of a difference though. We are sailing in a few weeks so the prices are probably higher than planning ahead. We've sailed on several other cruise lines but like the layout of RCI ships the best. Love the promenade! Thanks again!

  11. They are sister ships. But Harmony is newer and has the water slides at the main pool and the Ultimate Abyss slide from deck 16 to the Boardwalk in the back of the ship. Harmony - for some very strange reason - does not have a pool in the Solarium but has a couple of different specialty restaurants. Not sure if this makes it a lot better, but certainly offers a few different activities.

Here's a link to the ship info on the RCI website. You can compare the two here as well:

Harmony has a nice little kid section for all ages, including a nice area for kiddos in diapers (has slides etc- way better than Oasis/Allure)
