  1. Greetings-

To see what the OLife option would be minus the air fare, when on the O web site, select your cruise - click on "cruise details," then click on "plan my cruise."

You will then get the screen where you select your stateroom category. At the top of that screen, second question is - "Will any of these guests need air travel?" Select "no," then continue on planning your cruise and you will see what the fare would be with OLife promo, but minus air fare.

You will have the option to book your cruises at the end of your cruise planning, or save it for later. At some point, I believe you will be prompted to log into your Oceania account.

FYI- If you save the trip details for later, you will probably get an email or phone call from O to see if you are interested in booking---at least, that has been my experience when I have saved a trip/cruise details when logged into my O account.

  2. ...We really like the lack of crowds and calmer atmosphere on a small ship....Mary

Two of the main reasons we have selected Oceania for our first cruise- lack of crowds and calmer atmosphere. Oh, and the quality of the food and the upkeep/state of their ships that folks have commented on here on CC.

Food quality is a priority for DH. The calm and the chance to have great scenery and catch up on reading priorities for me. Maybe an excursion to see some whales, too. :-)

We realize that the calm environment may not be everyone's preference, but we sure are looking forward to it. Summer of 2018 just seems too far away!

  3. We have not yet been on our first cruise (Oceania Alaska cruise set for the summer of 2018); but, always figured the railed oval area above the pool deck would do for us (so much, that we booked an inside stateroom).

I can see how if photography is one's main passion/main goal, having an unobstructed forward view would be a major concern and have high priority. Thus, I could see how the forward view through blue glass (except in the area identified above) could be an issue. However, for others, it may not be a major factor and would not be something to lead them to choose another line to Alaska.

For us, when looking at videos and shots of all the folks out on decks of the mass market lines cruising to Alaska, and the number of people trying to get a decent view on the decks, the issue of having limited forward views becomes a non-issue if we have great views from the side of the ship, minus hundreds of people out on the decks. For us, large crowds are rather stressful and a decreased number of passengers out on the decks, even if more limited spaces to view, trumps an amazing, unobstructed forward view.

For those who have a passion for photography where the forward view is the main concern/the main priority- I could see where it might lead them to other lines for the Alaska itinerary. (In fact, from the reviews I have seen, the small lines such as Alaskan Dream Cruises and UnCruise offer an abundance of up front and personal photography opportunities- similar to being on an excursion for the entire cruise.)

Just adding to the convo for I know when making our selection re: our first cruise, when doing initial research, comments such as one would never choose a particular line for a particular area caused us to pause; thus, wanted to point out the advantages re: view on a smaller ship like the Regatta for those who may have photography at a lower priority. (Although, I expect one can get some great shots from that area above the poll deck as well.) Thanks for tolerating comments from someone who has yet to sail Oceania! :-)

Bottom line- I am grateful there are so many lines from which to choose. We hope this is our first cruise of many. Hoping we love Oceania as much as many on these boards do! And, hoping it will be the first of many cruises with Oceania. But, we are also open to doing many cruises, even trying different lines, and comparing Oceania with different lines. Sounds like a perfect assignment to me! :-) Wish they offered a program of studies in comparing cruise lines, ships, etc. I'd sign up for sure!

  4. Well, have more question for Hawaiidan/all before putting the deposit down.:)

For those who have sailed in 7043- Do you remember the orientation of the bed? Want to determine the orientation of the bed (mentioned by Mary in an earlier post) and determine if the bed would be orientated towards the front of the ship/going with the motion so body would be oriented like sitting in a car, vs. laying down backwards or feeling the side to side motion (don't think the side to side would be a worry with this stateroom; but, not able to tell much from the deck plans that I have found).

    Thanks again!

  5. Thanks, again, all!

Hoping to have time today to put a deposit down. (Why is it our weekends/time off sometimes end up just as filled with "work." LOL)

Ended being a rather busy weekend. Would have preferred more time with coffee and perusing an Oceania brochure and Cruise Critic threads!

    Have a great day! :-)

  6. Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions. Will ponder this weekend. Greatly appreciate your insight.

Would love to have a veranda, but would have to stick to 7 day trip versus 10 or 11 day voyage in an interior. Hard to give up the extra days.

Wishing you all a great weekend. :-)

  7. If you think you may be bothered by the motion I would do the F cat cabins

I do not usually get sick but if in the bow area I can sometime feel very uncomfortable with the motion up there

Thanks, LHT28, for the advice. I will seriously look at those two F insides that are left.

Also, when searching this forum/threads, found a post by Hawaiidan re: 7043 being his absolute favorite. Think he suggested it is very quiet. Any reason 7043 beats 7040?

(I think the obsession with details is a sign of someone who really, really, really wants to go on a cruise. We've been trying for years, but life keeps getting in the way. Trying to finally get some plans set in stone. :-) ) Again, thanks!

  8. Greetings-

Question re: sailing in the forward G inside staterooms- 7002 and 7003. Looking at a sailing to Alaska in 2018. Not sure of how the husband and/or I will deal with motion. The remaining G insides are the two cabins above.

For those who have sailed in those cabins or in those nearby on an R class ship, would you suggest two newbies give those a try for a 10 day cruise; or, invest the extra $400 ($200 pp) to sail in an F inside that is a mid-ship location?

We are not known to be ones to suffer much motion sickness; but, I have had an occasional bout over the years when on tour buses if climate control wasn't just perfect.

    Thanks,

  9. Islandattorney- Would you be able to share more details about what made your Celebrity cruise so enjoyable? (Was it the dining, your fellow passengers, the atmosphere, the stateroom, etc.?) And, were there things that you really missed from Oceania? Do you plan to sail again with Celebrity in the future? With O?

I realize that there have been many threads in the past comparing/contrasting Celebrity to Oceania; but, always helpful to have more recent feedback.

On some of the Celebrity threads as of late, the cleanliness of some of Celebrity's ships, including staterooms, has come up with some rather negative comments. Any feedback re: the cleanliness of the ship/stateroom that you were on with Celebrity? (When it comes to threads re: Oceania and the condition of ship and staterooms- most seem to indicate that excellent condition/cleanliness.)

Thanks in advance for this additional info. My husband and I find ourselves in same situation as ILgirl re: Veranda or Aqua Class on Celebrity, vs. inside on Oceania. We had planned a trip a few years back; but, had to cancel. :( Planning again for this summer or next. :)
