  1. We are on the same cruise (I assume if you are on the Breakaway). We booked this week because it was cheaper than the week prior and now I know why! haha. I typically research the heck out of things but my husband took the lead on booking this trip and I had NO idea that color would be done by Mid October. We'll know for next time, and I'm still very excited!

Thanks for all the wonderful information everyone!  I think that we have decided to rent the GEM as well.  It really looks like it will be fun and gives us the flexibility that we wanted.

    Thanks again!!

We reserved ours too! I decided to forgo Cadillac mountain. Having to choose a time made it a bit too complicated in my head. I asked a friend who spent a week in Acadia last year and said they didn't even go up because of all the things to do. So we are going to do the loop, hike Beehive, and any other little hikes we can manage in that time. I think we also plan to just buy our park pass right in town, just in case we aren't able to get off the ship for any reason. Hope you have a great time!

I wasn’t that interested when I saw them, but the couple from our cruise that rented one said it was great. I think this is their website https://www.acadiagem.com.  It shows a map of where you can go. We are considering it for our next trip to Bar Harbor in September.

My husband and I just booked a half day with one on the 19th. Planning Cadilliac mountain first (with a reservation) then doing the loop road, stopping at the highlights and hiking Beehive. Thank you for mentioning them!

When we were in Bar Harbor in June they were renting these small electric vehicles right at the pier. I know a couple who rented one and drove to the top of Cadillac mountain. They had 2, 4, and 6 passenger ones.

Oh my husband mentioned this and I thought it was crazy two months ago, but maybe this is exactly my answer!

You need a permit to enter the park to get to Thunderhole as well as an additional permit to go up Cadillac Mountain. Uber won't work.

We are in the same boat (pun intended). Arriving that week and had no idea that the IE buses stopped.  We want to hike, rendering the tours useless.  However, Olley's does do a tour of the park, you just can't go off on your own when booked with them. I would reach out to them, that may be our best option as well, if I want to see the park at all.

You are really at the end of the season. To enter the park, you need a permit, so Uber could probably drop you off somewhere nearby, but not sure it's where you want to be.

I had no idea mid October would be the end of the season, I thought that was the most popular time! I'm so bummed.

  7. My husband and I are leaving Oct 16th.  My one desire is to hike 5-6 miles in Acadia.  The Island Explorer would have been ideal for this, but alas, it stops running the week before.  I do not want to take a tour because we don't want to ride a bus through the park. I got excited thinking I could walk to the park, but that seems to just be some basic trails near the port that are on park land. I've tried looking into Uber but can't get a clear idea on whether they are allowed to drive into the park, whether they will be difficult getting a return ride, etc.

Has anyone gotten to the park to explore on your own without a car or the Island Buses or a Tour operator?

    Thank you!

An Anthem last December, I had to log out on one device before I could log in with another.

That's weird bc on the Anthem in June of 2017 we would just kick each other off. No logging out necessary.

  9. We were on the same sailing and agree with almost everything. Maybe the only exception being to download the app before you get there. My family did not listen to me when I told them to download it and we had no internet once inside the ship. It took hours for them to get it downloaded! Maybe the issue was all the rain that day and not making it out on deck until sail away! Oh, also, we went to the Solarium for lunch as I had read here and the line was 45 mins long. That was a huge mistake!

As far as disembarkation, we also chose to carry off thinking it would be fast and it was a nightmare. We chose to leave late since getting our big crew moving can be difficult. We got to the Royal Theater at 9 and weren't out until almost 11.

Also, the customs line meshed into the luggage area and while we got into the end of the line, people were picking up luggage and walking into the middle of it, infuriating people who had waited (I thought there was going to be a fight right behind us!). I was pretty surprised that it was such a logistical mess and expected much more order.

Anyway, living in Philadelphia, with an easy drive to the port I think we will be cruising Anthem again, but maybe next time with no kids so we can explore more of the lounges and night life!

  10. We've only been in inside cabins because we only cruise when my mother in law is treating the family and she chooses insides because it's 12 people (6 rooms). I've always found it fine. We are there to explore the ship, we've always found lovely spots to hang out.

I'm fairly easy going and low maintenance. And I also am akin to happily accept any gift of a cruise.

  11. We are sailing in June and just added another room of 2 people. When I was chatting with the rep they said the ship had maxed out its 3 person rooms. So it's possible that your ship could have hot quota. Hopefully it hasn't and your room can accommodate a third!

  12. Has anyone subscribed to one of these "rescue services" that claim to arrange medical care and even emergency evacuation to get you home or to a hospital? We've been getting some adverts lately . .. Worth while? Thanks!

I used to work for an assistance company like that. We would not evacuate off of a ship, or via helicopter. We would only evacuate from a port and only if you could not receive adequate care where you were.

If you were injured, treated, stable and needed to be taken home (repatriated) we would arrange for that whether it be by yourself (medically cleared), with a nurse escort, etc.

It's a fabulous service though I'll admit that since I stopped working there (and getting a free policy) I haven't purchased my own [emoji15].

We also could handle non urgent situations as well as security situations.

I worked for International SOS but their consumer polices are more expensive than competitors like med jet, etc.

  13. Thanks! I assumed they wouldn't change them, and I know my big kid is mature and smart enough she'll want the older group. The 4 year old is in preschool and doing well, except she won't even talk to the girls she calls her best friends when at play dates or parties [emoji85][emoji30][emoji23]

Oh well. She can hang with us if she doesn't like it.

  14. Could I ask a follow up question? I have a painfully shy 4.5 year old. Would they let her join her 7 year old sister? Or do they have to stay in their age groups? If so it's fine, we have a 2 year old as well so she can stay with us and her sister. But I'd love for her to have time playing and experimenting. I just know she won't do it alone.

  15. I am on the Liberty July 17 and also saw the 20% off deal. My question is if that offer is only good for pre cruise booking? If so then you pay tax on it ant sea there is no tax. I am not a beer or soda drinker, but i do adore those calorie loaded rum and tequila drinks with those little umbrellas and fruit. Do they charge for the disembarkation day? There isn't much time to use of $53.00 of drinks when they boot you off the ship at 7am?

    Thanks:rolleyes:

You don't pay for that last morning, you pay for the number of nights of your cruise. I don't recall seeing a tax charge. Unless they build it into the rate they offered online. We paid $48 per day with a 20% discount and then paid 18% service.

  16. I work for a medical assistance company and part of our service is assisting in medication refills. One caveat we pose is that the same drug restrictions do not necessarily exist outside the US. Dosages may differ, despite what the bottle says. It doesn't mean this is always true just something that is possible. Thus we strongly urge members to carry all the meds they will need plus a few extra weeks' worth. I think your best plan of action is to call your pharmacy and insurance company, show them proof of trip documention and request a refill on the 24th. They should know the concerns abroad and hopefully will be able to assist.

  17. I'm pretty sure I just read somewhere that the parent has to sign in person, so the friend won't be able to drink. I think it was in the FAQs, I'll find it.

Edited to Add: I just found it in the booklet they sent me with my luggage tags. A legal guardian must be present, a notarized form will NOT work.

Of course you must have the notarized forms and proper documentation for having the friend travel with you, but that won't work for drinking. I hope your cousin doesn't let his son drink in front of his friend. And honestly, who wants to be responsible for someone else' kid drinking? Not me! :-)
