  1. We were in Curacao on Sunday February 25, 2018, on the Royal Princess. Having looked at this thread before we sailed, I wanted to post our experience about the distillery and the shops.

We were on a morning ship tour that described an included stop at the distillery as one of the stops. Indeed we had a 20 minute stop at the distillery. They had 3 flavors available for tasting, the original blue, tamarind, and chocolate. Then we had time in the shop to buy what we wanted.

After lunch on the ship, we walked into town across the pontoon bridge. On the way, there were quite a few vendors, and I noticed as we walked through the Rif Fort that some of the shops and eating/drinking places were open.

After crossing the bridge, we walked down Breedestraat Punda and there were several souvenir shops that were open. On the way back to the ship, we stopped for a drink at the outside eating/drinking area with the umbrellas that is right next to the bridge.

The Royal Princess is about 3500 passengers, and was the only ship in port that day, but apparently it is large enough that the tourist shops and eateries thought it worthwhile to be open. We were able to do everything that we wanted to do.

  2. The last time I was in St. Thomas was in 2011, so things may have changed. We did something in town in the morning, had lunch, and then wanted to go to Magen's Bay for a couple hours in the afternoon. It was very difficult to find a cab at that time of day. We finally found one, and paid to have him wait to take us back to the ship. I guess everyone goes in the morning and the cabs wait there for return fares, so it is not as easy to find one later to go to the bay.

  3. We're doing some of the bourbon trail in a couple weeks - hitting some of the places we did not hit last time, like Willetts.

Maybe if enough of us keep mentioning it in the satisfaction surveys and comments cards, they will do something. Any self-respecting upscale restaurant carries more than Jim Beam!

  4. This is one of our pet peeves with Princess, that Jim Beam is the only bourbon they carry, especially now that they are enforcing the carryon liquor policy. Bourbon is my husband's drink of choice, and he likes it neat, so Jim Beam is certainly not adequate. For the last few cruises, whenever I fill out their satisfaction survey after the cruise, I always mention their lack of bourbon selection. They even sell Makers Mark in the duty free shop, but not in any of the bars!
