  1. In fairness, the Apple was served to her by a U.S. airline and it was sealed/wrapped by the airline. The intent of the U.S. Customs rule is to avoid smugling agricultural products from another country due to risk of disease, harmful bacteria, contaminants, etc. I can understand her thinking that since she did not acquire the apple in a foreign country that it need not be declared. Maybe Delta actually loaded the apples onto the plane in the U.S.? In any event, she did not bring it from another country. I think she has a strong legal argument.

Sent from my SM-G935V using Forums mobile app

She doesn't have a legal argument even if the apple was loaded on the plane in the US. Once it hits foreign soil, it cannot be legally brought back into the US without being declared. They do that to prevent disease, bugs, etc from entering the country.

You cannot even take a piece of fruit out of the Windjammer & off the ship when you return back to to the US at the end of your cruise, even though the ship was loaded in the US & did not take in any more supplies at any of the port stops.

  2. Just a little description of my self beforehand. Im a part time travel agent. I work from home and cater mostly to friends and family. My husband and I have not traveled since our honeymoon 4 years ago (we had 2 kids and no travel budget). We are booked on the Anthem of the seas in November.

First off, as travel agent, im suppose to have a special rate. I am currently on maternity leave and not working for the most part of 2017. I was denied any special rate because of not enough sale (in a way, Royal Caribbean is discouraging maternity leave)

Then a friends and family special arrived (that is exactly the special travel agent rate) but it was after a final payment) I called to see if there was something they could do and was answer by a very condescending manager making me feel really stupid to ask. Saying that it was my job and that I should know. (As if i am suppose to be a royal Caribbean specialist) I even asked to see If I could be just pay little more to have an upgrade since the balcony and oceanview was less expensive then what I had pay for my interior. She almost laughed at me.

And finally, after reading some comments about how the front of the ship was rocking, I called to see if they could change my cabin for another one in the exact same category but at the aft. They didn't even try and said no.

I really feel that we are not guest but annoyance to them. Once you have paid they just don't bother trying to please you. That is not what cruising is suppose to be. Even hotels are always trying to accommodate and please their guests. I was extremely nice on the phone and was answered with condescending tone that is giving me a bitter taste in my mouth and not as excited with my upcoming vacation anymore.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  3. Per RCCL website:

We are happy to announce that we received confirmation that we can return to Key West starting this weekend with our call on Sunday, September 24th. With both Havana and Key West ready, and excited to welcome us, we are now able to offer the Royal Caribbean vacation guests are looking forward to.

    Isn't key west a disaster?

Besides, it sounds like the authorities in Key West made the call that the ships can return, not Royal Caribbean. If the authorities give the OK, then why would the ships want to stay away?

  4. Well this is a most unusual cruise for those folks that got on last week. Looks like it will be a 2 week cruise. I always wondered what would happen if a ship couldn't return to original embarkation/return port. Surprised they didn't divert to Tampa since RCL does cruises from there but perhaps it was out of season. For the folks onboard they will have a fun story about an extra week at sea,

Freedom-class ships are too tall to get under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

  5. Been there twice. The first time two women (ahem, girls) clung to the fence. One had a short skirt and forgot she wasn't wearing undies. Every time a plane landed, her skirt would blow up and guys flocked across the street to take pictures. The other girl had a tiny purse she set down. OK. If you have to cling to a fence what the heck is going to happen to your purse? Last time I saw it, it was in the sea.

The last time saw no fence clingers. I did notice they added a second fence next to the guard rail I think in hopes that people wouldn't stand in the street to fence cling.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she "forgot" she wasn't wearing underwear. :')

  6. Thanks for the review! That's odd about having to wear a shirt on the slides. They did not require anyone on my cruise back in April to wear a shirt. Did they say why they were requiring them? But, that is why you got stuck on the clear part of the blue slide & also why you likely thought the slides weren't very fast.

A cotton shirt would hold you up on the slides, but a rash guard seemed to be OK.

  7. If you are flying in same day, you can purchase round trip shuttle service from Royal Caribbean for $36 per person. They meet your right at baggage claim, take your luggage and get you right to ship. They leave every half hour. We were very happy with that service - on Adventure right now. I believe you need to reserve and pay in advance.

I know that a lot of people here are against the RCI transfer for various reasons (cost, frequency of departures from the airport, etc.). But I will say that I liked how the RCI transfer was set up in San Juan, at least for my cruise back in April. In San Juan, you give your large RCI-tagged bags to people that are driving a box truck & you get on a small shuttle bus. You keep your carry-ons or smaller bags with you. Then when you arrive at the terminal, you just walk through the line for passengers with no bags to check. You don't have to wait in line to turn your bags over to the porters. You don't see your tagged bags at your stateroom until later that evening. In a way, it's like the luggage valet program on departure day that's offered on US mainland cruises.

When you do the transfer for a cruise out of Florida, for example, you ride in a large coach bus & the luggage is stored underneath. Then after you arrive at the terminal, you have to grab your bags after the driver unloads them & give them to the porters. Usually it's a very quick process here, but it seemed like it was pretty backed up in San Juan.

  8. On my Adventure cruise last month, most bartenders would measure 1 or 2 shots (depending on what the drink required) & pour a little more from the bottle as he poured the shot in. I remember only one bartender seemed to only do the required pour.

I have never really had a weak drink on any cruise I've been on as well.

  9. Bill, it looks like you did the same tour in Curacao that I did. Though, we had to meet at 8:10 am in Studio B & we left the beach at around 12:30 pm, so we might have crossed paths in the parking lot at the beach. Why we had to meet that early, even though we were on the island until 11 pm, I'll never understand. Except for the Subway, none of the restaurants at the beach opened until 12 pm, even though there were a lot of people on the beach. I thought that the beach there was really nice. I did get some photos inside the distillery/museum.

  10. Time for a picture. I did walk all over the ship, since it was our first time on this ship, taking pictures. On several ships like Allure and Freedom I found the ship model and admired it. I found the model on this ship and was admiring it a full 5 minutes before I had a W T F moment.

    brilliance2.jpg

Like me, if the readers forgot, I was on Adventure, not Brilliance. I guess there is no rule that says the model has to be the ship we are on, but this struck me as a little odd.

Next up, Sea day #1 and the Meet and Mingle.

I was on the same cruise & am enjoying your review Bill. I did not know that there was a second ship model on the Adventure. There is also a model of the Vision of the Seas on Deck 9, but I did not know about the model of the Brilliance. I was on another cruise (I think the Allure) & it has a model of a Freedom class ship on it. I'd have to look through my cruise photos to see if I can find it.

Oh, I did see someone on the cruise wearing a U of M hat. Wasn't me though (I'm from Michigan), I cannot stand them!

  11. Yes, same here. Booked the Symphony for April, 2019 (through Royal directly) & have requested the confirmations a few times. Have been told they have e-mailed them to the two addresses on file. Checked all e-mail folders & nothing. Was able to add the reservation to my My Cruise account. However, when I try to add it to my mother's account, it states that her name is not on the reservation & it cannot be added, although it IS on the reservation (she made the booking).

I'll just try to go to the Next Cruise desk next month on the Adventure & see if they can print them for me.
