Blame the media all you want, but https://www.ready.gov/kit has been listing this since 9-11.  Everything that people are hoarding is on that list.  As we are all being told to by someone who made up that list.

Also, if everyone gets it all at once, I'm not sure what a 4% death rate will end up looking like, or the massive economic impact of all the people who are sick, long and short term.  By spreading it out over time, that impact is spread out a long way, and is a lot easier to deal with.

If you think this is all hype, please feel free to, but for the people who think this is both serious and a good idea- please just hang out with people who think just like you.  Don't spread it just because you think it's a good idea.

Does anyone see 2 cases of Toilet Paper on that list ?  I can see the hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies that you can use when not at home, but not the rush on TP !   I have seen online that they are selling 2020 commemorative earrings looking like TP rolls hanging from your ear because of this as well.

I live on the coast and my Florida county and the three bordering counties have no positives as of yet.  Everything is open for normal things to do.

The only place I would avoid locally right now is probably Walmart because of the number of people flocking like sheep to get their TP and other needs.  That's the one thing to avoid as you can't keep your own 'me space' as I call it.  It's not like you can have everyone wear a 3 foot bubble to give you a 6 foot space between each other.

It's sad that I had to cancel my cruise on Mariner, but it turns out that everyone had to as well,  so now I won't have second thoughts about if I was right by doing so now.

We are thinking of a Casino Trip to Biloxi now instead.  We have a hotel booked, but it also has a cancellation option if things in that region changes.  We can all live in fear, or we can all just watch what we do to try and prevent the spread of this virus.

  2. Here is the Letter - Email you will get from Carnival Soon and you won't have to call and wait on hold.

    *********************************************************************************************************

    Dear Carnival Guest,

We are sorry to share the news that Carnival Cruise Line is temporarily pausing service, effective with sailings departing Saturday, March 14 through April 09, 2020 across its fleet of North America based ships. We will resume service on April 10, 2020.

As you know, COVID-19 has now turned into a global pandemic. Carnival has responded by implementing higher levels of screening, monitoring and sanitation protocols to protect the health and safety of our guests, crew and communities we serve. We have had no diagnosed cases linked to our operations and we are committed to continuing to do our part to support public officials in their efforts to manage and contain this unprecedented public health situation.

On behalf of all of us at Carnival Cruise Line, we extend our sincere apologies for the disruption to your vacation plans and trust you understand this decision was made with everyone’s best interest at heart.

Since we’d love nothing more than to welcome you back just as soon as we resume operations, we’re pleased to present the following options:

    ·  Please complete [LINK REMOVED] to let us know which option you prefer. We have automated the process to eliminate any need to call us. Nothing further is needed from you except this form. Please be patient if you reach out to us as we are experiencing high call volume.

    ·  You have until December 31, 2020 to make a selection or you will automatically receive a 100% Future Cruise Credit.

    ·  Whichever option you select, it will apply to all guests on the reservation.

Regardless of the option you select, your taxes, fees and port expenses, Carnival Vacation Protection, pre-paid gratuities, pre-purchased Carnival shore excursions, beverage and
Wi-Fi packages, and Fun Shop purchases will be automatically refunded to the original form of payment.

If you have independent air, we encourage you to contact your airline carrier directly as they are being flexible with change fees.

Once again, we want to say how sorry we are that we won’t be able to continue with our plans to operate your cruise. Thanks for hanging in there with us. We look forward welcoming you aboard a Carnival cruise in the future!

    Sincerely,

With other responsibilities that need to be attended to after the cruise, we can't afford to be locked down for 14 or more days away from home !

Thinking more about my previous post, if only one person on the ship gets sick or shows signs of a virus, everyone is at risk for quarantine because it should be reported.

Even though they gave us an upgrade to a balcony, we just had to cancel our cruise.  The offer was great, but the risks are greater in my opinion.

My first post on this thread I said I was mildly concerned about our upcoming cruise.... I think it's time to move to the moderately concerned stage.  So much has happened since then. Several cruises on multiple lines have been disrupted or cancelled, 14 day passenger quarantines have occurred, cruise ships have been denied port entries, the State department has issued a travel advisory, entire areas of countries have gone on lock down, schools and countless large scale gatherings have been cancelled....

How many cruisers will lie about their contact with someone who has the virus, their travel history or how they are feeling and try and board?

The last part of your statement is exactly what I have been thinking the most about within the past 24 hours.  Add that to the Muster Drill where you're inches away from each other, is it really worth the risk right now?

While the temperature checks and questions are conducted before boarding, it still has huge flaws.

My wife and I are heavily leaning towards canceling our March 30 cruise aboard Mariner of the Seas.

With other responsibilities that need to be attended to after the cruise, we can't afford to be locked down for 14 or more days away from home !

Your cruise you did last April 2018 was part of the new year that goes from April 1, 2018 until March 31, 2019. So if you got over 2500 points between those two cruises you are Prime for the new year beginning April 1, 2019.

How many points did you gain from your cruise last April 2018 and cruise you just got off of February 2019?

    I really don't know

  7. Haven't cruised since April 2018 of last year.  Just got off a cruise last week and I was Prime and no one explained the new program while on board during the 2018 or 2019 cruise.  I just found out today the way the new program works by calling them.

Now I am going on a cruise in April 1, 2019 and will have no points and not enough from the previous year to be a prime member.  They can take this new program and shove it where the sun don't shine and I will no longer even try to make an attempt in the casino to gain any points.   Good bye Royal Casino's - It's not worth it.  Time to go on another cruise line I guess.

  8. I do too love to cruise. I do also enjoy the dining experience that we have experienced on past cruises and each of us has tipping points.

Don't get me wrong. Allure was a very nice ship and the cruise overall was pleasant. It was a goal of ours to go on an Oasis class ship. Now that we have reached that goal and seeing all the pushes away from what it was to specialty up-charge dining for the great food it once was, I don't see any reason to be loyal to the cruise line anymore.

I am a cruise or two away from Diamond and the C&A benefits are really not very attractive to me to be an incentive to reach Diamond.

When we first started cruising back in 2009 we heard so many things about the food from the other lines that didn't come close to the quality of food Royal provided. In my opinion that is no longer the case during our past three years that it once was.

We love cruising and that won't stop, but I will look at the best prices, value, entertainment, and itineraries for my future cruises from all the cruise lines.

  9. Got off Allure this past Sunday. They cut prime rib out of the menu and now it's a 1/4 inch thick tough and chewy steak instead.

They did serve lobster ? Probably because they don't have a dedicated seafood restaurant yet !

The last cruise we went on with Royal was in 2014 on Enchantment and that was a horror story. Never even used the future cruise certificate that was good till 2015. Allure is a nice ship, but Royal is pushing all the specialty restaurants now instead.

This may have been my last cruise with Royal.

  10. Not sure if anyone is still reading this, but here is the latest Full Flight Video of the Carnival Fascination anchored on a beautiful day March 1, 2016 in Half Moon Cay.

This video was taken with my DJI Phantom 3 with a DBS Extended Range Antenna to get out past the ship operating it from the beach.

  11. Welcome to Cruise Critic.

Pay your vet to take care of your parrot while you are away.

While we don't have Parrots, we have 2 Dogs and they stay boarded at our Vet for the time we are away. It's never fun to leave a pet with someone else or in a different environment. But most guides tell you that animals live for or in the moment.

A day, 3 days, 5 days or more.. As long as your pet has the basic care and attention they will greet you when you come home or go to pick them up just like it was as if you left yesterday.

As far as the stress they may endure, a good tip is to make sure you have the care giver give them things like treats or toys that they are familiar with to help alleviate some of the stress. In my case we have 2 dogs that are twins and just being together keeps them a little more comfortable. As far as their favorite treat a slice of apple goes way farther than a dog biscuit. We make sure we leave them a few sliced apples that the vet refrigerates.

Another thing is not to tell them you are sorry. If your sorry then it would be you that needs the care of them then you needing to care for them and you might have just as well stayed home.

Just my 2 cents and the vet gets a lot more than 2 cents, but I know my vet will take care of them and supply them with what they need while I am gone and when I come back they will be happy to see me.
