  1. Hi,

We are a couple with two teenages plus 3 suitcase leaving the Celebrity Equinox at rome port in a week time. We’ll be spending two nights in Rome and plan to do day excursion to Pisa or Florence during our stay in rome. So the questions are

    1. The best transfer from port to city. We want to take the train but with three suitcases, is this sensible?

    2. i keep reading posts saying it's not difficult. Would someone kind enough to describe again how to do it.

    3. Given our excursion plan to pisa or Florence after settling in rome hotel, what kind of train tickets should we buy? I 've heard about the special tickets that alliw you on regional trains and other buses. How do they work?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  2. If you dock at Terminal B, walk along the sidewalk to the port entrance gate (5 min walk), exit the gate at the top of the hill, and the bus stop is right there on your left. Very easy. Tickets are available from the driver.

As a note, the stops in town for us did not exactly correspond to the map posted by the bus company. It only made one stop near the Acropolis -- and it was on the "return" route. It wasn't a problem, just know you will pass the street to the Acropolis, go to Syntagma Square and loop back around to the street that leads to the Acropolis (so you may think you're headed back to the port). It will then stop at the street that leads to the Acropolis and new museum.

Tell the bus driver you're going to the Acropolis and he'll let you know.

Catch the return bus at the same spot. There's a sign that has the X80 bus number posted on it...in front of the fur coat store.

It's super easy and fast! Did the metro on our trip 4 years ago and prefer the bus now.

THANK you! Just hope we'll be docking at Dock B then.

  3. Just want to be prepared as we are travelling with two young kids. We'll be arriving at Piraues on Mon 21st Jly on Cebebrity Equinox at 6am. Would anyone know if we'll be docking at A or B? It says every 30 mins. Does it mean one at the hour and the other one at 30min of the hr. How much time should we allow for walking from the dock to the bus station? Thanks!

  4. Hi, VirtualRain

Could I ask when you said "We worked our way slowly south through town towards the Gardens of Augustus which offers some fantastic views of the sea stacks and Via Krupp…". DO you mean walking or did you take the bus?

I love your report. It's going to be our guide for our July trip.

    Thanks!

  5. just wonder if anyone know how much RIL will charge if you exceed the 9 hours day service for the Rome shore tour.

We are aiming to leave port at 7:30, do St Peter's Basilica Dome at 9 (not doing rest of vatican on this trip), followed by a pre-booked Colossum underground tour at 12:20, lunch at 2pm and if we have time after, see the forum before heading back to ship around 3-3:30pm (because we need to reach ship by 4:30pm if we stay within the 9hrs service day). It'd be nice if we have the flexibility to extend a little.

  6. One thing you're right about Teckk is that they certainly do not have hot chocolate let alone salmon dip onboard. We're tentatively booked with them for in 2 wks time. We're v late in booking and they're the only operator that still has space. And she did tell me that they'll have water, just water onboard and so we'll need to bring our own hot beverage if we want. Feeling a bit nervous after reading the exchanges here. Thanks for your input anyway.
