I would assume that, rather like the majority of water dispensers that you will find in the uk, the buffet water dispenser has a mains feed.  Consequently people are queuing up to fill up their bottle with the same liquid that comes out of the tap in their room.  The risk of spreading infection comes from carrying a bottle around with you all day, touching all kinds of things and then touching the water controls immediately after touching the possibly contaminated bottle thus spreading the contamination on to the next users hands.

There are many signs requesting people not to do it, however they do seem to go unheeded.  And all to top up a bottle with tap water that is available in your room.

Does anybody actually drink the tap water on offer in the cabins?  It’s rarely even cool, let alone cold!

Another bit of excitement this morning as Ventura had a helicopter operation to evacuate a sick crew member. We had to turn around and sail South for around an hour to rendezvous with the helicopter (flying from Lisbon). All finished now and sailing North again. The detour is not expected to delay Ventura’s arrival in Southampton.

    Excitement?

must not have found them then. I will be on the look out as this would be awesome for me. Were these in the main dinning room or buffet?

i know they have more rice and noodles upstairs at the buffet

I love things like beef stroganoff and tagalitelle but these are not things that are or will be on these menus.

I think you’ll find that to be incorrect - we have always had Beef Stroganoff on a P&O menu, tagliatelle too!

Anyone know how P&O dealt with compensation, etc?

    I understand there was:

1 day’s cost per person credited back

£50 per person credited to obc

    Hamper delivered to home address

Did these apply to all passengers, or only those marooned overnight onshore?

Sorry to repeat the above, but there doesn’t appear to have been an answer - does anybody know, please????

  6. Yes, a very comprehensive report, and little to dispute, except to say that, in general, the P&O staff were excellent in their efforts - remember they’d had as little or even less rest than the passengers involved. So too the Red Cross, local police and other services which assisted.

We arrived back from an excursion at around 17.00 and were advised to go to the nearby Commercial Centre - we spent about two hours there.  There was a bar/cafe, McDonalds and Carrefour.  After some coffee at the bar/cafe, we used the supermarket to buy food and drink, as it was clear we would not be home “in time for dinner”, and were able to sit comfortably in the centre for our “picnic”.

Next day at Villefranche, it appeared pointless joining the queue and standing around for some considerable time, so like others we availed ourselves of the seafront hotel for coffees and refreshment, and cafes along the front also provided respite for passengers. In the event we only joined the queue when it was down to the last 50 or so, and even then, P&O staff were still offering snacks, including fruit, and drinks.

  7. Our luggage labels have arrived within the excursion book

Only four labels between the two of us, all in OH name

Can you get additional labels, and if so how?

Fred Olsen usually provides 12 for the two of us

  8. Recently back from Celebrity Eclipse cruise - so pleased we booked Alla Tours' 2 day St Petersburg excursion, the guide (Elena) was really good and knowledgeable, and her English was impeccable - 16 in the party

    Highly recommended

Incidentally, we took advantage of their discounted 1/2 day tour of Tallinn for those who had done the St Petersburg excursion - well worth the money and just 6 of us in the party

  9. Its a bit hard to answer that kind of questions as there are to many options available. It would be easier if you gave some information about your interests and habits. Do you like to walk for example or do you prefer bus?

Some walking, not too strenuous, don't mind HOHO bus/boat

Prefer outdoors (for photos) rather than indoors (museums, etc)

  10. Arriving at S167 STADSGÅRDEN at 08.00 22 Aug 11, departing 17.00

Interested in a concise itinerary to see the best of Stockholm [not particularly interested in the Vasa Museum, due to limited time]

Should we walk from the ship to the Old Town or take a HOHO boat or bus ? Keen on a photographic record of Stockholm

Thanks in advance - help much appreciated for this newbie
