Thank you Dave.
Boeckli lives about 2 hours south of here, so thought she/he would see this before you in the States. Isn't technology great.
Impressive camera and photo's.
Dave, is it possible for me to talk to via email?
There are a lot of questions I would like to ask you regarding cameras etc.

Thank you. I was trying out a new wide angle lens and it didn't have a lens hood on. So looks like that is the next purchase.

Which of these filters should I use for sun flare? Took some photo's, middle of the day, in bright sunshine. I didn't look directly into the sun, it was on the side, but I have sun spots on the shots. Photo's were taken at the harbour. Shots taken with the sun at my back did not have these spots.

Thank you Kiwi Kruzer. I'll look it up.

Can someone please tell me if there is a link to Packetau's blog site. Thanks

Radiance of the seas visited Newcastle yesterday, according to the Newcastle Herald, 6/4/18. Arrived at 7am and left at 5pm on it's way to ship repairs, but certainly not here in Newcastle. The article did not say where the repairs would take place, but as far as I know, we no longer have facilities for dry dock. We drove in to Newcastle today, but there was no sign of her.

I use Adobe Premiere Elements 2018 on my iMac
Thank you.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the same type of software using an iMac?

I was so pleased to find your posts, I love following your latest adventures.
It's a shame you have struck bad weather up north, hopefully it will be a lot better on the return trip. Where I live, we have not had decent rain for over 3 to 4 months, we would love a bit of what you are getting.
I was on Golden Princess in August to Hawaii, a very enjoyable cruise (35 days). There was a trio of young men called Acoustic Rush Trio, playing in the Piazza with one special concert given because of their popularity. Are they still on the ship? If so, don't miss them. They are excellent.
I will be following along and reading your blog.
Enjoy the cruise(s).

Thanks for that info. We really enjoyed having him as the CD and couldn't find out why he was no longer on the ship, except that there was a medical problem, which is probably not true. Tim has been on 2 of our previous cruises, the Sun and Golden and has always been a ball of energy. Glad he is still with the Princess CD's.

I recently returned from 35 days Hawaiian cruise. Tim Donovan CD joined the ship in Suva and left in Honolulu.
Does anyone know why??

Thanks for your reply
I don't have the fisheye or telephoto for the Olympus. Are they worth getting?
I'm not sure how many lenses you have but I would take the Rebel with either an 18-250/270/300mm "vacation" lens, or maybe just two lenses to give you some choice. Do you have the optional fisheye or telephoto for the Olympus TG4? -
Dave, I really respect your expert advice and knowledge given here on CC.
I have decided to take the Rebel, best to have plenty of options.
The tour you took from the Big Island, can you tell me how you organised that one please. your photo's are fantastic.
Thanks,
Kerry
As Glaciers said, many of us would rather leave half of our clothes at home than any "necessary" camera gear, but the choice is entirely up to you based on your personal cruise/photography balance. Personally, I cruise to get to new places to take pictures. I truly enjoy photography and have looked at the world as a possible composition since I picked up my first camera at about 10 years old. Not taking my primary camera(s) would be unthinkable. If you are a casual photographer and don't spend a lot of time with your camera, the phone and the Oly should serve to capture the occasional sunset, wide view of the Hawaiian scenery, fellow travelers or fancy dinner shot. If you like to shoot a lot, the phone isn't going to cut it. I have a Pixel XL and even its spectacular camera falls short in very low light (I mean very low) and in any situation where a telephoto is needed. All of our advice is well meant but the decision is ultimately yours and will be based on your perceived need for the advantages an interchangeable lens camera gives you.Dave
BTW, our last trip to Hawaii was a bit more adventurous with a boat tour out to the lava flow. If I were cruising to Hawaii and had a stop at the Big Island, I would take the tour again without hesitation.

Thanks everyone for your advice, much appreciated.
I have decided to take the Rebel, as I figure that I will be better off with it as without.
I took a new camera on our New Zealand cruise and was very disappointed. Mostly because I didn't understand the camera. It had a large zoom, but that did not give me the close up's I was looking for. They were very grainy.

Just bought an iPhone 7. Wondering whether or not to leave the Canon T4i with its heavy bag and lenses home.
Will the quality of the phone be as good as the Canon? Doing a 35 day Hawaii cruise with lots of sea days.
BTW, I'll have my Olympus TG4 with me.
Appreciate your help on this one.

Thank you everyone for your answers and input. Much appreciated.

I have never sailed into Brisbane, so am not aware what is available to passengers to get in to the city or Southbank from the grain terminal. Hope someone can help.
-
I bought from Insure & Go for our upcoming Hawaiian cruise, then found out that I could have got it for $200 cheaper at my local Building Society. Also they won't cover for helicopter or light plane tours.
Do shop around first.

These photo's are beautiful. Do you mind saying which phone you used.

Thanks OzKiwiJJ, i read thru the thread you sent me but unfortunately its not quite what i'm after. I'm looking for people who have had this syndrome for a long time. I have had it continually for over a year and it hasn't abated at anytime and recently it has worsened without any travelling. I have read that if you have it for 12 months you have it for life. My doctor can't help me any more and i feel like i am on my own to deal with this and would love to meet up or correspond with someone in New Zealand who has had it long term as myself. There is no cure or medication i can take and would like to know how other long term sufferers are dealing with this. Cheers
As I am not in NZ, I hope you don't mind me replying to your post.
So far, we have been on 5 cruises with No. 6 coming up in August. I experienced this after the 1st one, but it only lasted 3 weeks. The subsequent cruises were not too bad, until the last one, to NZ. That was 16 months ago and I still have the rocking motion. I have had physiotherapy for this, but it still stays with me. There was some problem with the vestibular function in my left ear, after undergoing a series of tests. My GP doesn't have any answers either, except to say the next cruise will probably make it worse,or no better, but I am prepared to take the risk. Apparently flying causes the same affects.
I feel for you and know what you are experiencing.
Luckily mine does not include nausea or spinning, as Vertigo sufferers experience.
I'm happy to keep in touch with you, but not sure if I should put my email address on here.

Thanks for your replies, everyone. I'm still not feeling very confidant about taking it underwater, so maybe I need to go the extra expense and buy the housing. What are your opinions on doing that. Is it worth it?
BTW the camera is 18 months old and has had little use so far.
-
I have an Olympus TG4. It hasn't been underwater as yet. How can I check if it is really waterproof before we do our next cruise.
-
Thanks for that. Realistically I knew it couldn't be snow, but it sure looked like it.
I got out and used my camera today...
