  1. I’m going to ask a very stupid question: exactly what is/are “the Baths”? I’m picturing some kind of hot springs or something but I’m surely wrong because I haven’t seen that term mentioned anywhere. First time to Tortola and I’m clueless.

  2. We used it last year. It is a legitimate site. Don’t expect quick results though. Assuming your husband’s lost item is recovered it has to be returned to Miami and they do their thing with it. I don’t know the entire process but I’ve heard many instances where it’s been several weeks. They will send you email updates but they are automated emails letting you know they are still looking for your item. Complete the form, hope for the best and sit back and wait. Good luck.

  3. i have purchased Carnival gift cards from AARP and enjoy the 10% savings. I ordered some for Royal Caribbean thinking I was getting something that could be used just like the Carnival cards - to pay down the balance on our cruise; order a beverage package, apply to my sail and sign card, etc. Instead what I received was a gift “certificate” that can only be used to make a new reservation directly through Royal Caribbean and nothing else. I will admit it was my fault because I didn’t read through it. It was listed under “Travel” and “gift cards” and I incorrectly assumed it was like the Carnival cards. Now I’m stuck with $1,500 of gift certificates that I can’t use and now need to find another way to pay off our currently booked cruise. If you order anything from AARP be very careful, read the description and be sure that you’re truly getting what you think you are.

  4. Thanks so much for explaining the difference. I'll wait until I get on board to have them applied to my account. I am super excited about the cruise, there are 11 of us going and we're celebrating my recent retirement. I think it will be a wonderful way to celebrate!

Or if you have money left on the gift card instead of getting new gift cards for the remainder you can go to the casino, load the money into a slot machine and then cash out. Take the ticket to the casino cashier and get your money. We did that on the Magic in July because we didn’t know when we would cruise Carnival again so didn’t want another gift card.

  5. I have a friend on Triumph. She just posted the following on facebook....

"Well our cruise ship is less ONE person... The Lady's husband... We left him in the Mexican brig.. For throwing her overboard"

I’m confused. Both of the women - the one on Elation and the one on Triumph - were pushed or thrown overboard by the husband/significant other? I read somewhere that the man on the Elation was also arrested in the Bahamas.

  6. I also highly recommend Captain Bob/Soulagia Destinations. I'm not sure Soulagia is spelled correctly but it's close. Trip Advisor definitely has reviews on them. We've gone on their excursion 3 times and loved it every time. They take you snorkeling to places that the cruise ship tours don't so you're not constantly running into people when trying to snorkel. It includes lunch. The speed boat ride to the various snorkeling stops is a lot of fun as well. They will also take you close to the area where you may see a plane land. Very reasonably priced and just a wonderful time.

  7. We sailed on the Sunshine last year, December 18-December 26. While the description makes it sound extremely festive, it really wasn't. To answer your questions:

    1. No, no Christmas mass or service

    2. No, no Carols under the stars or by candlelight. On Christmas Eve they had caroling at about 4:00 in the main atrium. They had little booklets with the lyrics to songs. They passed out wristlet jingle bells. The caroling lasted maybe half an hour to 40 minutes.

    3. Grinch makes RARE appearances and no photo ops. He popped in and out during a couple of shows - went running across one end of the stage to the other. Maybe up in Camp Carnival he is seen more; not sure. We didn't have kids with us.

    4. There is a Santa. We had our picture taken after the Ugly Sweater Contest which was also hyped up but resulted in people walking in a circle around the bar in the atrium and audience applause determining the winner. Nothing great. The participants all received a Carnival Santa hat.

    5. Christmas dinner in the MDR was turkey, I believe, and the trimmings.

They advertised Christmas movies but I think the only offerings were Elf and one other that I don't remember and it was just one night. We had bought Christmas DVDs from home to watch on our laptop and I even went to Guest Services and left a note that I'd be willing to loan them if they wanted to show them during the day on the big screen instead of staring at the commercials for the Red Frog and Blue Iguana. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day they played Christmas music throughout the ship but not much the rest of the cruise. I brought my iPod with us and hooked it up to the computer and piped in my own Christmas music in the cabin.

Any other questions, feel free to ask!

  8. When you say you got the cards in less than a week, do you mean they were physically delivered to you? Is there an electronic option?

I ask because our final payment is due on March 9th, so if i need time for the cards to be physically delivered, then I'll only buy enough to cover extras, not our cruise payment.

    Thanks!

I order mine on Fridays ($500), they shipped UPS on Monday and I received them on Wednesday. AARP will send you a tracking number. If you can't be there there are other options such as sign the back of the notice they leave on your door. You can also ask them to take to the nearest UPS office for pickup.

  9. The option I've had great success with is AARP. You don't need to buy a membership. Create an account and take some quizzes to earn points. Go to Rewards For Good and check out what they are offering. You can buy a $100 Carnival gift card for $90 and 1,000 points and $500 card for $450 plus 5,000 points. They are not always available so you need to check daily. I find them most often on early Friday afternoons. Hope this helps.:)
