All the ships charge...UNLESS the token machines are broken and Pax Svcs is in a good mood.

Again, as I said in my post, I cruised the Discovery Princess.  Just got off of it last week.  I did laundry and paid nothing for my use of the machines or soap/dryer sheets.

No evidence of tokens anywhere; if so, I would've mentioned it.  The soaps were sitting out on a shelf free for the taking. I threw my clothes in and pressed Start.  Laundry is pretty straightforward like that.

Sorry I don't have a video for you to believe me.  😜

A mark in the plus column for Princess, though!

  2. I just returned from my first Princess cruise on the Discovery to Alaska.  Been on 7 other cruises (NCL, Carnival, and MSC).   I'm in my early 40's.

What stood out to me as the benefits of Princess:

    - Excellent variety of creative and fun daily activities.  It was far more engaging to my brain than the other lines I'd sailed.

    - The entertainers were fantastic. Rock Opera was quite possibly the best show I've ever seen at sea.  Love the variety of music onboard... was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the house band's New Orleans jazz concert in the piazza.

    - The entertainment was G/PG.  I appreciated that they don't rely on crude jokes or overly revealing costumes to excite a crowd.

    - Very few children in May on an Alaska itinerary.  A fairly sedate, mature crowd can be a bonus, if that's what you're into.

    - The balcony cabin was affordable.

    - Echoing the praise for the free laundromat right down the hall!

Is it my favorite cruise line?  No, but I can still appreciate the positive aspects of my experience with Princess, even though there were a lot of things I didn't like.  Would I sail with them again?  Maybe... I really wanted Princess to win me over, but they didn't.  I'd give them another shot if the price/itinerary/timing was right and my cruising buddy was agreeable.

  3. Hi all.  First time on Princess, heading out on the Discovery in a few weeks!  Just wanting to know:

    1. Is access to the thermal suite included with a spa appointment?  I'm looking at getting a massage, if that matters.

    2. Do they run any specials/discounts for spa services?  Some other lines will offer a discount if you book on embarkation day, or select an appointment time on port days.

    Thanks!

Yes, it is not there on the iPhone.  Others have posted of this "bug" and said if you have an iPad, it works on the iPad and the save button is visible.

I wasn't worried about it and figured I'd just show up when I was ready, but then I got an "emergency update" email from Princess the other day--which didn't contain anything that looked like much of an emergency to me, but did say that if you show up before your arrival group's time you will be asked to leave and come back--and the thought of waiting outside the terminal in 85+ degree heat and humidity for several hours since I had no arrival group chosen didn't sound fun to me!  But I've been reassured by the answers on this thread that it probably won't come to that.  🙂

I use the iPhone app also, and I didn't think the save/confirm button was there either, but it was.  For me, it looked like I was at the end of the page with no way to save my changes, but the button to save shows up below what looks like the bottom of the page after I made my updated selection.  I felt kind of dumb but apparently I wasn't the only one, haha, because I got that tip online.   This was all on March 13.  Either way, I hope your embarkation goes smoothly!

  5. I will be on the Divina for a 3-night cruise in 2 weeks, and I have been searching for answers about the same thing and have gotten nowhere.  I'd be so grateful for some info so I know how to pack!

Are there any special theme nights on a short cruise?  If so, how many?  What are they?
