  1. Awesome beach day. Rented loungers at the Blue Bitch Bar to the right of the water taxi...ask for Brian. What a surprise to see Captain Di Palma with his family there right beside us for the entire day! We chatted a bit and I got a picture with him just before he headed out to jet ski with his young son.

Popular location as we were also watching the 2 Acrobat men from the show the other night practicing handstands on each others head! Right there in front of us on the beach.

Was petting a stray dog on the beach with another young lady and she asked me what I do on the ship because I was wearing my MSC ballcap. Told her I was a passenger on board. She was one of the performers from the beer -prov show. She told me she thought i was the captain with my hat and all because she heard he was in the area. I told her he was right behind us in the lounger. Too funny. Great cruise so far!!

Loving your great review thank you!!

  2. Do you know the hours for breakfast and lunch in the Haven restaurant? Do they stop service or does it just change over? Looking forward to our first Haven on the Getaway. Love to hear any tips from you who have been there before.

On the Getaway breakfast was served from 7-10, lunch from 12-2, and dinner 5:30-10

On sea days breakfast changes to 7:30-10:30

This was in December. Not sure if anything's changed since.

  3. Was in 12706 on the Getaway a couple weeks ago. Originally was booked in 13706 but opted one deck lower because the balcony in the pictures seemed like a port hole size opening. The suite itself was amazing. Only drawback I found was the long, long walk down the corridor from the main elevators to get to the cabin. I did hear the anchors and other noises but nothing overwhelming. Sailing was very smooth until the last two days heading back to Miami. A LOT of up and down motion with the 11' waves. I guess depends on the sea conditions obviously.

You won't be disappointed, NCL spoils their Haven guests

  4. Just off the Getaway this past Sunday. Purchased $2000US OBC at $1.11 exchange rate about 2 months before my cruise. As expected, after reading previous posters' horror stories, it did not show up on my on board account when I checked my on board account on day 1. My credit card statements showed the transactions went through and I paid it off before the cruise.

I went to guest services after day 1 and showed proof on my cellphone that they were indeed purchased. The service rep had no record of it then made a couple calls and told me it would be in my account the next morning. By late afternoon day 2 still no money in the account. Back to guest services and another rep said she had no idea what was going on as they had no record of it on file. I showed her that I was billed and paid my credit card and told the night before I would receive the missing funds. After making some calls she assured me the money would be in the account by the next morning.

Finally received the obc by day 3, went to the Casino and cashed out at 3% no questions asked.

The funny part is the other family who we travelled with on this cruise purchased their obc about a week before the cruise and it was waiting in their on board account as soon as they boarded. So it seems to be hit and miss with pre purchased obc. Remember to bring along any necessary documentation for proof of purchases made just in case!

  5. NCL is putting RCI to shame with this current promotion. People on RC forum are banging their heads trying to crunch numbers to figure out RCI's current BOGO promo that really isn't.

I didn't hesitate to book my first ever NCL cruise this past week with these amazing offers for the Getaway out of Miami come next December. Booked a Haven penthouse suite with my wife and received all the perks offered at a great price point, great room, and great itinerary.

I was also able to convince my cousin and his family of 4 to book this amazing offer as well. They booked the Haven 2 bedroom family suite for the same date.

    Excited to say the least!:D

I would recommend to the OP to book a room sooner than later if you're interested in a specific cruise. You can always upgrade or cancel if it doesn't work out in the end.

  6. Trying NCL cruise for the first time ever come mid Dec. Booked a Haven Penthouse suite. Have been reading a lot of disappointing threads about the changes and cutbacks RCI has been making on their ships and experienced some of it myself on the Oasis last Nov.

A lot of talk about the Haven suites and the special attention to details offered to the suite guests. I checked their pricing and with their current promos running, and decent itinerary I couldn't resist. What sealed the deal was their awesome $US to $CA conversion rate of $1.10. (banks here are offering $1.25!).

The Getaway seems like a really nice ship, can't wait.

  7. Oasis did this to me last year for last Novembers sailing. They sent my sister and I an email that each of our cabins would be relocated (12729, 12727) deeper into the boardwalk area above the carousel PLUS $100 obc for each of our staterooms for our troubles.

I wasn't satisfied with the location and we were found 2 other cabins in a more desirable location near the theater. (10321, 10323)

It worked out in the end, but unlike OP's experience, we WERE notified of the changes by email AND were given $100 obc without asking

  8. Just off the CB a couple weeks ago. I've recently cruised Oasis, Allure, and Disney Fantasy (all phenomenal ships). This was my first Princess cruise. Had a blast. The ship seems slightly dated but enjoyed every minute I was on her.

....and Sabatini's, Crown Grill? Just amazing. If you're on the fence, don't hesitate.
