  1. We sailed 10/23-10/27 to Nassau. This is my third time on Majesty and I loved all of the upgrades. Normally I arrive at the pier during peak check in times and the lines are horrendous. Now that I'm a savvy cruiser, I arrived nice and early. It took us MAYBE 5 minutes to get through security and we walked right up to the desk to check in. We proceeded to Windjammer for lunch. It was decent but nothing to write home about. We explored the ship for a bit, chilled out on the deck enjoying the sunshine and then went to check our daughter in to Adventure Ocean when open house started. The sail away party never really happened because they had to replace an anchor or something so our 4pm departure turned into 6ish. But I digress....

I love the addition of Splashaway Bay (kid's water park). It's separated into two areas for the babies and then the toddlers. I love the screen on the pool deck. I as able to watch Monday Night Football and Thursday Night Football (Go Ravens!) on the big screen under the stars. We had the 1st main seating and the servers were great and the food was delicious. The rest of the meals at Windjammer were ok. Some were great and some were hit or miss, but it's kind of expected when you have to feed that many people.

The staff at Adventure Ocean were phenomenal. My daughter LOVED IT! I loved all of the great activities they have planned throughout the day.

The activities were fun. The cruise director (Ricky Matthews) really knows how to get a party started. I was so disappointed they had to move the Caribbean party indoors because of the weather but it was still a fun time.

We had an interior room on Deck 8. Be forewarned this floor had a musty, sewer like smell to it. The room itself was fine but the bathroom smelled like it as well. Of course this would be the time I forgot to take my travel Febreeze.

My pet peeve on the ship was signing for drinks when you have the drink package. IMO, the slip shouldn't spit out unless you go over the allotted amount. Swipe and keep it moving. Waiting 5 minutes in between drink replenishment was annoying as well. I wanted to take 2 back to my 'perch' so I wouldn't have to get up again but of course that wasn't allowed. I get WHY they do it, but it's still annoying.

Disembarkation was a breeze. I've heard stories that this is getting to be as long as the 'normal' process so I wasn't sure what to expect. The longest part was waiting on an elevator we could squeeze into.

All in all, we had a GREAT vacation. It was the perfect intro to cruising for my boyfriend and our daughter. Off to plan the next!

  2. Only problem with walking around with your wine in a wine glass is of course, spillage. :o:eek:

Which is the reason I take the elevator instead of the stairs when I have a full glass. ;)

Otherwise no problems...just about the whole ship is a floating bar at sea.

Then I'll probably bump into you on the elevator! I just saw we're on the same cruise! I can't wait...Cheers!

  3. It seems you do not understand corkage fees.

They are not for removing the cork, although they will do this. They are to replace lost revenue from you bringing your own wine. Or beer or liquor in a land based restaurant. It is the food industry term for the charge.

You only pay a corkage fee on board, if you take the bottle to a public space. If you open it in your cabin and pour into a glass, you can carry anywhere without any fee.

Corkage fees are not consistently charged on RCI ships.

I do not understand why people get so wound up about corkage fees on board, just try taking your own alcohol into any land based restaurant and see what happens.

If you pour in the cabin, do you need to walk around with a generic cup per se (disposable, tumbler, etc) or can I get a plastic wine glass and walk freely without issues?

  4. I'd switch to MTD so as not to hold a table when going to Windjammer. You can make a standing reservation, and just let them know you won't be coming on those evenings when you want to do the buffet.

Should I switch via cruise planner or wait until we embark and then go to the MDR to talk to someone to arrange the standing reservation? Thanks again!

  5. It's been 6 years since my last cruise  so I'm trying to remember how dining works. This time I'm traveling with my boyfriend and our 4 year old daughter (1st time cruisers for them). We currently have the main seating but I know at times my boyfriend prefers the quickness of the buffet. I'm debating on changing to MTD but then we risk a long wait. We're not currently seated with others so although we wouldn't hold anyone else up if we decided to eat at Windjammer one night, we'd also be taking a table from someone who may have wanted that slot. Advice??? TIA

  6. I've searched the forums and got some answers here and there but still need some help building my itinerary. Some background: I'm cruising to the Bahamas late October with my boyfriend and our 4 year old daughter (she will be turning 5 during the cruise). I've been to Nassau via cruise twice before. This will be the first cruise/Bahamas trip for my boyfriend and daughter. We will be on RCI/Majesty of the Seas and arrive at 8am and depart 9pm.

I'd like to get a tour of Nassau but not necessarily the tourist stuff. On my last trip, we found someone at the port who took us past schools, local neighborhoods, lots of stuff off the beaten path. I'm looking to do something similar this time and have our last stop at Atlantis. My daughter is on the smaller side so she won't be able to do the slides and I doubt my boyfriend will do them as well. Even if we don't DO them, I'd still like access to them for photo ops. I want to do the aquarium for my daughter, walk around the grounds and then take a taxi back to the ship.

My questions: will my daughter need a car seat if we find random tour guide at the port? If we bought passes for the aquarium only, does that grant access to the grounds? If we did the beach pass, is that aquarium/grounds access? Based on my intent, what would you recommend? TIA
