Yes I agree.  Why cancel.  Just do nothing.  Then all that can happen is they keep the deposit or cancel the cruise.

For the first time I used a TA to book two cruises as they were cheaper - so I’m bound by their terms and conditions, I’m waiting for a call back but they charge a cancellation fee so I’m not sure the position I would be in if I just failed to make final payment... I’ll ask the hypothetical question!

Lesson learned - just never thought cancellation fees would be an issue for me pre COVID...

Unfortunately that includes us.  No white smoke from the Carnival chimney this Tuesday at 10 it seems....

The Christmas cruise balances are due this weekend.

😨😨 Our situation also - balance due to TA today for new year cruise And was waiting for a potential announcement - I’m inclined to move deposit to avoid paying the balance but 2021 is already pretty busy for us!!

My expectation now is the Aurora and Arcadia wont sale until after their, now, cancelled cruises in 2021.

I was thinking/hoping the same - I’m booked on the Arcadia new year cruise and not sure I fancy it now! Would be helpful if it’s cancelled before final payment 😬

I think peeling it off and spoiling the page would be viewed by border staff as even worse than leaving the sticker there. They could then be concerned that some serious "official observation" had been removed from the passport and would lead to something more serious than a slap on the wrist.

Thanks - I got a telling off from border staff for it being there in the first place !?! I’m going to Japan next month and don’t fancy having the same conversation with their border control - HMPS said I travel at my own risk (to be fair I think they have to say that) a replacement passport is £75 in the uk so in the grand scheme of things it’s not worth the risk so I’ve bitten the bullet...

  5. Thanks for your replies - you’re right I can’t be sure it was the cruise line - but the reason I thought it was is because there was one sticker with my name and room number on the back and another (same colour, font etc) with what I think was my folio number and a barcode on the page I described. The visas issued by the countries I visited are all on the correct pages.

Still have the same same issue though with a sticker in a place where it should it be so I contacted the passport office who have advocated that any page containing personal information shouldn’t be tampered with in any way(!)

It’s annoying that I still have over 8 years on my passport but it can’t be peeled off without spoiling the page...

  6. Hi, wasn’t sure where the most appropriate place would be to post this query so I’ll start here...

Late last year I was on a Suez Canal cruise with Celebrity when we had to hand our passports in on the ship for immigration purposes. At some point a small sticker with a barcode on it was placed on our passports, not on any of the plank visa pages but on the “page reserved for official observations” you can find on UK passports. Didn’t think much of it at the time and didn’t think anything of it until a recent trip where immigration picked up on it and told me that page shouldn’t be used for anything and I “shouldn’t have put it there”.

I’m sure this is a common thing to happen so wondered if anyone else has had this questioned or had any problems?? (I also intend to check with the passport office to get their advice as I’m travelling again soon)

    Thanks!

  7. Thanks to OP for starting the topic and for the replies so far! Found this an interesting read having recently booked MSC for the first time due to price and itinerary but apprehensive about some negative comments. Like some of the previous posts I read negative reviews and see what they are actually complain about (eg - if that’s the worst thing that happened I can live with it) and try to work out if they are people looking for something to moan about or not.

On my last cruise I got so wound up by the number of people complaining when I was having a fantastic time, it was often from people not doing research beforehand or having what I thought were too high expectations (In some cases I thought TA’s had been misleading !?!?) - just shows how different people can have such varied opinions even on the same sailing.

When I read about poor service I just thought to myself “at that price I don’t care”, if the service in the dining room is poor I’ll eat in a speciality restaurant, slow drinks service we’ll sit at the bar.

Hope I’m not being too naive (!) - but at £45 pppn we’re getting accommodation and all of our meals (compared to the £120 our original choice on Celebrity for a similar itinerary - we’re definitely itinerary first people) 😁

We are finally moving at 4:30 am. We were in the MDR last night and there were no windows broken, nor did I hear of any such damage. I did see broken glass in the Oceanview Cafe where some of the food containers fell. Our cabin is center aft and as far as I know any damage to the ship itself was minimal. I didn't see any visible damage to the Costa ship either.

It wasn't foggy yesterday, it was a squall that came up suddenly. I have a photo but it's too large to post. It suddenly started raining very hard and it almost looked like night. It cleared up within a half-hour or less. I'm going back to sleep now.

    Kate

Thank you for posting this - it’s good to know that the ship is now moving I hope damage is minimal and you make it back ok to Civitavecchia safely.

I’m on the 11th sailing with my partner so will be keeping an eye on this.

That link leads to many pages, a video!? etc.  with absolutely no information. If you tell me what info you’re looking for I’ll upload the relevant pages.  Gotta love the Celebrity website!

Oh not just me then - I thought it was being uk based that was the issue! I think I’ve seen it before it’s basically a list of all the beverages in each package - appreciate you looking though - thanks

  11. Hi, I’m trying to work out if it’s worth buying my other half a package for our upcoming cruise on Constellation (I already have the classic bought partly with obc). I have a link here, but being in the uk every time I click on it I just get redirected to the front page of the UK site:

    https://www.celebritycruises.com/things-to-do-onboard/onboard-packages/beverage-packages/premium-classic-and-standard

any friendly US based cruisers prepared to click on the above link and upload as an image for me?

    Thank you!!

  12. We disembarked on Monday after 15 nights onboard. I'm not going to do a full review but just post some thoughts and happy to answer any questions as not that much seems to get posted about Constellation.

Overall we had a great time and loved this itinerary. We embarked in Rome, with stops in Sicily, Athens Jordan, Muscat, Dubai and Abu Dhabi where we disembarked after an overnight stay. We went to the Abu Dhabi grand prix for Qualifying and race day which was a fantastic experience for us as long time F1 fans. We bought our tickets and arranged transfers independently and for anyone doing this next year it was all very easy (and much cheaper) to do yourself.

We had been to all the ports before apart from Jordan so of course we had to visit Petra, this was our only organised excursion and we booked it with the ship. It was a long and tiring day but very well organised and worth experiencing.

We cruise on various lines but most regularly on RCL. We've done two previous Celebrity cruises (including one 11 years ago on Constellation) and based on those I've always thought that Celebrity had slightly better food and service than RCL, however based on this cruise I've changed my mind.

Dinner in the MDR is always one of my favourite parts of a cruise, we always ask for a large table on late seating and that is what we got this time too. We were on a table for 10, all very nice people, a mixture of nationalities that we got on well with. However the service was just so slow (and this is coming from a Brit who likes to take her time over dinner:)). Late seating was at 8.30 and we rarely got out of the dining room before 11, I don't know what the problem was as tables around us always seemed to be way ahead of us while we were sat around waiting for food that was usually only luke warm by the time it arrived. One night I asked our waiter if we could be a bit quicker as we wanted to go to the silent disco which started at 10, I think we eventually made it out by 10.40. I hoped he'd take the hint and speed up on other nights but he didn't. Towards the end of the cruise we twice got the speech about giving 10 on the survey, which always really annoys me, particularly this time as he was nowhere near a 10.

I know the quality of food has dropped over the years on all the mainstream cruise lines but this seemed particularly poor, very bland tasteless food all over the ship, almost impossible to get brown bread/rolls and extra veg anywhere. I'm not saying it was terrible and we went hungry, just not what I remembered Celebrity to be. Perhaps we were just unlucky and different waiters could have made such a difference.

OK now for some of the stuff that we really liked.

The silent disco has to be top of my list, the first time we've had this on a cruise ship and it was such good fun, we had 2 on a 15 night cruise and wish there had been more.

The production shows were great, a really talented cast of singers and dancers, better than most ships we've been on lately. We also loved the Phil Collins tribute act.

The house band Just In Time were fab, great to dance to late at night. Infact this trip was much more lively than our previous Celebrity cruises.

The cruise director Ian was good and we played daily Trivia with Emily and Jelena who both did a great job.

Our cabin steward Rhodora was excellent, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for her, she even brought DH a kettle so he could make his early morning cuppa.

I'm sure I've missed out lots of things so ask away if you have any questions. Sorry I didn't keep any of the daily planners so can't post those.

Thank you for this review - I’m on the 2018 itinerary and like you did already have our Grand Prix tickets, I’m interested to know how you made it in time for qualifying (which starts at 17:00 after ship docks at 16:00 - were timings similar to your cruise)? Were there queues at immigration?

    Thank you in advance!

  13. Does anyone know if the classic non-alcohol package is discounted?

Not on the cruise we have booked it's the same price it had always been (I will be buying this for my partner so been keeping my eye on the price). Only the alcohol packages had the discount [emoji3]

  14. Thanks OP for the post - I haven't had an email but on logging in to my cruise planner I can see that beverage packages have 25% off! Did the email say when the sale ends? Wondering how quickly we need to book?

    Thanks

  15. I've followed this thread a few times in the run up to my cruise so I thought it's only fair I should let you know my outcome - I'm travelling on the Sun on Monday (25th sept) and booked an inside cabin. This morning I was notified that my bid of £80pp for an oceanview has been accepted ("fair" on the sliding scale)!

I'm pleased with this, since when we booked the cruise I'm sure the additional cost of an oceanview was £200-£250pp.

I hope it's useful to know that I didn't receive this until 3 days before the cruise for those of you who haven't heard about theirs yet?

  16. On a cruise on the solstice a while back the seas were pretty rough when crossing the Tasman - to date it is the only time I have felt sea sick (as did most of the ship it seemed). Guest relations handed out packets of travel sickness tablets and I was amazed at how well and quickly they worked.

Why I didn't take down the name of the drug at the time I don't know - but does anyone have an idea if there is a particular brand that Celebrity normally use for this purpose? I would love to buy some for a future cruise??

    Thanks

  17. We used alla tours for a three day tour two years ago and couldn't fault the service at all. Having said that there were similar reports of other companies I don't remember anyone on our cruise having complaints about their tours!

I do remember asking our guide abut her background and she told us how tour guides in St Petersburg have to study and pass exams in order to receive their accreditation - I assume that all guides working for these companies follow the same process and tours end up quite similar??

  18. Hi, hope you are looking forward to your trip?

This would depend on your preferred method of transport and how confident you are with public transport. If it was me, I would be getting the train and I would spend those first few days staying close to either a tube or train station in or on the outskirts of London. Southampton is a fair distance from London and you don't want to waste limited time travelling?

Since I'm assuming you will have luggage you might consider staying at Gatwick airport? This isn't something I would normally recommend but I believe you can get a direct train to Southampton from there and there are quick trains into central London.

If you are planning on using taxis and budget isn't an issue then this will increase your options, and only you will know if you would rather stay in the centre or the suburbs

  19. So your invoice does not actually say that you will receive the drink package? When I book a cruise that includes a drink package the package is clearly listed on the invoice.

Perhaps the "summer savings" for the cruise that you booked does not include the drink package, but just a price savings on the cruise?

I can see that you're in the US? So our invoices will look different, but the drinks package definitely wasn't stated on the invoice for my last X cruise either and we did have the Classic package included as part of the deal (again I asked for confirmation). If it was I wouldn't have needed to ask.

This is why I asked my original question about eligibility as this was the wording of the promo (on the cabin selection screen): 1f27514a1f04cacfeb17b0ac131abaec.jpg

  20. I wouldn't worry if the package is on your invoice. In my case the promotion "summer savings" is quoted on the invoice (in the "promotions applied" box) - I sent a message using social media asking for confirmation after noticing that the sailing had been removed from the promotion - I had quite a quick response from that so might be worth a try for piece of mind
