  1. We were just on the Joy in 12892. Labeled a PrivaSea cabin on the deck plans, but we knew from looking at exterior photos of the ship that it would be an angled balcony.  The only "obstructed" view is that you had to peek around the wall between our balcony and the balcony beside us to see forward, but that wall also dramatically cut the wind down while we were underway.  The balcony was about 50% larger than a normal mid-ship balcony.

  2. Atlantic hurricane season is 6/1-11/30. There is a risk of a hurricane during hurricane season. Impossible to say with any certainty how the seas will be, as it's entirely dependent on the weather pattern that particular week.

  3. Parked for a week 5/19-5/26. Reserved online. $325 for the week. Parking is on the top deck of the terminal, quick elevator ride to the bottom floor, drop bags with the porters on street level, hop into the security line. Couldn't have been easier.

I was on the 5/19 sailing out of NYC to Bermuda.

Do they still have the key cards that you carry with you all the time? Used to need for the bars/etc. Yes

Are they enforcing the 'no saving chairs' rule at all? Not really. They do mark unattended chairs after a certain time frame, but we're talking several hours, not 30 minutes.

Any idea if you can link individual credit cards per person versus per room?

How was the check-in? Check in was an absolute breeze. Parked the car at 945am, had cleared security and had room cards in hand by 1015am. Boarding started just prior to 11am.

  5. Was on the 5/19 sailing. Arrived to terminal at 9:45am, through security and had keycards in hand by 10:15am. Started calling priority and mobility impaired before 11am. I was on board by 11:30am. Rooms weren't ready until nearly 3pm, so check anything you don't want to haul around for 3+ hours with the porters.

  6. Hurricane Lee is expected to make its way into the Gulf of Maine Friday night into Saturday. NCL Pearl is set to leave Boston for Bar Harbor Friday afternoon. Any word on what the plan is for the Pearl? Just hold at the pier for a day would be my guess, but wondering if anyone had official word.

  7. I've been reading in various places that a number of guests on the Pearl have been experiencing issues with sewer backups over the past several sailings.  Assuming a larger systemic issue, is this something that can be fixed to any degree on a turnaround/port day or is the crew just going to have to continue to chase and band-aid the issue until the next scheduled dry dock?  We're boarding on Friday and it's a bit unnerving thinking that we may discover we don't have working facilities in our stateroom at an inopportune time.

  8. My wife and I have been on the Dawn twice, both times out of Boston.  She is a great ship but in my opinion may not be the best option for 15 year olds as there aren't any fancy bells & whistles for them.  There's no giant slides, no go carts, no laser tag, no climbing wall, etc.  There is a crowded pool, a few hot tubs, a basketball court, and a video arcade.  We love the Dawn for the smaller ship feel, the excellent restaurant selection, and the ease of leaving from the Northeast.  If the 15 year olds are "old souls" that enjoy lounging with a book or taking in a show at night then it may be a good option for you, but if they're the more adventurous type then they may go a little stir crazy on the 2 1/2 sea days to and from the Caribbean leaving from NYC.

  9. holy crap that is a lot of money to spend on a brand new ship.

given the large Asian population on teh west coast, why not try it out as is, aside from making menus in english, etc.

Kudos to NCL for being willing to change course so early in the game and make a large investment to reposition the Joy. They could have been stubborn and left it in China to be underutilized.

  10. From what I've been reading on these boards, the Dawn still uses the upsell phone number as opposed to the online bidding system. I'm wondering if I will receive an email since we booked through a TA. I asked him if they took part in that through NCL and he said yes, but has only seen a handful of emails. Thinking I may call the upsell number around 60 days out. If we could get a balcony for $150 pp, I would do it in a heartbeat. 93 days out at the moment....

I am sailing on the Dawn on 5/5 and received an upgrade advantage email today. Looks like the Dawn is officially on the new program.
