  1. Here is the info about the "stocked minibar" in the suites that are not the upper suites.

    • Complimentary minibar stocked with soda and beer on embarkation day and water restocked daily.                                                                               So no more over priced liquor and wine will be in the minibar.

if you are just going to MIA airport, a taxi is the same price and easier (it can be a challenge to find your ride-share, or there can be a LONG wait for one.)  Taxis are readily available and the line (if any) moves quickly

Be aware if you are picked up by a minivan or suv taxi they will charge 30% more than a sedan cab!

Were sailing in a few weeks. I was looking forward to it. We were on Summit about ten years ago. Now I'm a little nervous about the condition of the ship.

Don't be nervous. I was on the notorious sailing. Yes, some people had issues in the elevators and water issues. We went with the flow and a majority of the cruise was great. We are booked on the 4/25 & 3/26 Summit cruises. These will be our 4th & 5th cruise in a row.

What is the current status of the ship? Is the power restored? Is water back to normal?

Every thing was back to normal last night. They were probably still cleaning up after the water line break.

were they in a big storm?

I imagine that a  cruise without  power, propulsion,  A/C , water and internet seems awful!   Hope food has not spoiled.

Prayers for  a safe journey for all onboard.

    There was no storm.

  7. We are on the Summit right now and experiencing multiple issues. After being turned away from Bimini we are headed to Nassau. The port pilot and captain agreed it was not safe to dock.
We were going very slowly to Nassau because they decided that we would have 2 sea days to Nassau. On Wednesday afternoon we lost electrical power several times. One time lasted over an hour. The ship was just floating. People were stuck in elevators and had to be rescued. Several floors have been without water, air conditioning or internet.
During the night several hallways and staterooms flooded from the ceiling.
This has continued into Thursday but at least we have power and at this point are scheduled to dock in Nassau on Friday.
It appears the issues have not affected propulsion but are affecting many other systems on the ship.
So far the captain has not been good in giving information. Needless to say many people are upset and customer service is not handling it very well.

For myself we have lost water and will deal with it as this is our 3rd yearly cruise on the Summit and we are not going to let this completely ruin our cruise.

Not confused. Not senile DH remembers lunch on port days.

I leave on 4/1 for my 3rd cruise in a row on Summit. I remember that Luminae is only open on embarkation day and sea days.

Going to have to pass on public transportation do to amount of luggage and walking involved at almost 60 years old. Checked out YouTube videos of trip from airport to Brickell and with multiple bags stung together each, it just would be too much for us.

Still interested in shuttles, taxi, Uber etc. Just trying to find what would work best for 2 people 4 large bags. At the best price.

We always Uber or Lyft to the Hampton. The price will vary based on the time of day. Hampton does not have a shuttle from the airport.

  10. We will be staying at the Intercontinental on Biscayne Ave in Miami before our cruise. We will be there on Easter Sunday. Is there somewhere that has Easter buffet at a reasonable price. The buffet at the hotel will be pricey. We are willing take an Uber to a more reasonable price. I realize that all restaurants are expensive for Easter. Even a diner with good food will do.

    TIA

If you thank the Dress Code debate can be entertaining you should check out the Cunard board.  I was chuckling reading a thread where there was a heated debate on whether it was ok in a hot climate to take off ones jacket while or after dancing.

There's also a great 5 page long debate when someone asked if her husband would be ok in a light grey suite in lieu of a tuxedo.

My mind went immediately Hyacinth Bucket of Keeping up Appearances.

What can I say,  I'm taking my first Cunard cruise in October.

Jim, So which one are you taking, the grey suit or your tuxedo?

  12. We had to call FBC to get our seats assigned for our AA flights.  Also United allowed us to get seats online. My AA  tickets weren't paid for even after I made final payment. I called FBC and magically my tickets were paid for.

At the risk of sounding petty...

We just returned from a short Celebrity cruise that was wonderful in most ways other than one exception.  In four days, we encountered 6-7 situations in which we found a quiet place to relax but, within a few minutes, someone a few chairs away was on their cell phone engaging in one or more of three behaviors:  (1) talking very loudly...really loudly;  (2) using the speaker on the cell phone to hear the other party...many such exchanges seemed to involved "facetiming"; (3) watching videos on their phone with the speaker at max setting.  These were not emergencies in any way.  I know that because the entire conversation from both parties was clearly audible to everyone within a 10-20 foot radius.  And, at no time, did the party on the ship seem to be concerned that they might be bothering anyone.

It's hard to believe we are the only cruisers who find this somewhat disturbing but I have to acknowledge the possibility that others simply aren't bothered by it.  If so, it's my problem.   However, it got me thinking.  If cruise lines can have smoking and non-smoking areas, why not have certain areas where cell phone conversations are not permitted and videos/music can only be watched with earphones?   Of course, nobody cares if someone is texting...it's the noise polution that is the issue for some of us.

    So...am I being a curmudgeon and unreasonable?

If you forget to set anything aside while packing, you are also likely to be wearing the clothing that you will be walking off the ship with!

We came back from dinner and set the suitcases out after we were ready for bed. Needless to say I didn't keep a shirt out for the morning. I had to wear my wife's colorful night gown and tuck it in my pants. As soon as we retrieved our luggage at the pier I was able to change.
