As an ex sailor/fisherman the worst was february 1961 about 150 miles s w of southern ireland on a 250ft cargo ship when we had to go head to the wind and 40 foot seas for 4 days couldent go forward and couldent turn around . I will stick to large cruisers from now on.

On a union csatle passenger liner in the fifties the crew were washing down the passenger decks in the early hours and as was common in those days there was no air con as we have now and the cabin portholes /windows were open when they were treated to th inebrieated ramblings of a well known actress /personality of the day who was aged abt late forties trying to get up to a top bunk with the assistance of her cabin mate both of whom were wearing the skimpiest of night attire .
After that when this female was seen on deck the deck attendands referred to her as ** knickers.
Edinburgh or Glasgow from Greenock-which should we do? Pros and cons to both places?

Greenwich is any 15 miles from glasgow by train or bus .Edinburgh is a further 30 miles further and anothervtrain journey is required .as a Scot and fairly knowledgeable about the travel situations I would not recommend the Edinburgh trip as travel can be horrendous at the time of your return .glasgow is a far safer option.as a seasoned cruiser I well know the hazards of a late return to the ship.
