  1. I’ve never had a muster drill last past sail away. For a 5 pm departure they will have a 5 pm sailaway party and muster will be scheduled around 3:30/ 4. So don’t worry about the muster drill. A 7 pm reservation will be fine.

    Perfect. Thank you!

  2. No. The ship has intranet and internet. Intranet doesn’t allow you to connect to the outside world, just ship services through iconcierge; but is free. Anyone can download iconcierge before they get onboard and then set up an account and be able to make restaurant reservations for free. For a per device fee, they also offer a messaging feature that can be used only on the ship to other people on the ship. No internet package needed. This is my vote as well. We had 3 on our last cruise and iconcierge worked well to keep in touch. Much better than the walkie talkies or room calling methods we had tried in the past.

Thank you so much!! Very well explained, I think I get it now. We will do that then. :)

  3. On the Escape a couple years back, we all used the NCL app to keep in touch with our teens (and adults too). It worked out very well for us and plan to use it again on the Getaway in June. Then it was, I believe, $8 per device and now it is $10.

But the app(s) need wi-fi to work, right? So on top of the $10, it would be the Wi-Fi fee???

  4. Hi,

We will be on the NCL Spirit on the Eastern Med in/out Rome in June 2018. Have many teens with us that will be wanting to keep in touch with each other on board and will also need to check in with us parents from time to time. Any idea best way to do this? More worried about sea days. Ever heard of What's App? Will that work? What if there is no wi-fi signal or is that never an issue?

Could just use cabin to cabin phones but that would mean someone would need to be in cabin.

    Any help here is appreciated.

    Thank you!

  5. Hello,

Itinerary on NCL Spirit says cruise departs at 500pm. Any idea how long the safety drill goes on for? Then is there a sail away party? How long does that last?

Trying to make dinner reservations, but afraid 700pm may be too early.

    Thank you for any help/input!

  6. Great info, caviargal!

I totally agree with you. The flight is the worst part! I always find myself just praying and crossing my fingers we don't have any problems every time we fly.

It seems more the exception than the rule, nowadays, if you have a smooth flight and arrive when you are supposed to! :)

I will definitely keep Virgin in mind and give them a try on my next trip if it works out.

    Thank you!

  7. Fabulous report, clearly I'm still missing the cruise :)

From what I learned the ship's location in Bordeaux is always the same place...so your insight is intriguing. Even still. The waterfront is fairly compact so it's easy enough to figure out where....

The cost for a taxi can be anything from 50 euro to 80 euro depending on traffic, and plan to pay with cash as there's no such thing as a credit card reader.

I love wine but have to admit that on our Saturday-Saturday cruise I hit the wall on Thursday. Haven't quite yet recovered! On the other hand, my Finnish husband, who only ever drinks Chardonnay, became quite the red wine aficionado.

FWIW, I could care less about cognac, but loved the experience. The optional tour provided a memory that I wouldn't ever have had. We have the bottle...for awhile it was left on top of the washing machine  -- that's how serious I am. But I loved the experience.

PS You don't need a "tour" of the Libourne market, just wander over and enjoy and remember there's both an outdoor part, and an indoor part. In France, the indoor markets are where locals really buy; outdoors it's either seasonal or touristic.

Thanks for the info re: cash only for taxis.

We are on Uniworld's cruise in June and are staying at the Quality Bordeaux Center on Sainte Catherine for our arrival night.

We will need to get a taxi from airport to hotel. Does anyone know or have

experience with this? It is a pedestrian area, so concerned about not getting dropped off at door of hotel with suitcases. But I read somewhere that the taxis have some kind of tokens to get thru the pedestrian gates??
