  1. Landed there today from East Mids on the Friday 8.55am departure.

Customs was a breeze (10 min) and the flight took exactly 3 hours.

    However...

It took 50 minutes to get our cases off the conveyer as they had added 4 flights to the one tiny conveyer and most folk were still in passports so the same cases trundled round perpetually.

Everything after that was smooth and efficient, including cases delivered to our cabin.

  2. Hi all. Just getting ready and organised for our cruise on 9th Aug and tried to log into the excursion planner to double check what we had already booked and paid for (2 excursions). One is the Dubrovnik Game of Thrones walking tour but I can't remember the name of the other! Anyway, I am unable to log in as it is too close to the sail date and the earliest date it will now accept is 11th Aug.

I have received no email confirmation (unless it went to spam and was auto deleted after 60 days) of these bookings and wanted to re-print or at least screen grab the confirmation as the Marella FAQs say that the email confirmation of the booking should be taken with you as proof of purchase!

I have called customer service who say they don't deal with ship excursions, it is now done in store. I have called the store and they said they cannot access my excursions and that the print off is not necessary as the tickets for excursions will be put in our cabins the night before/morning of the excursion. Can anyone confirm this?

I would be happier if someone at Marella could at least confirm they are booked before we go!

    Thanks in advance...

  3. Well, with the amount we've paid for the 2 week cruise during school holidays (disgusting price hikes - we don't have children, but are both teachers), another £44 was a drop in the ocean, so I reserved seats and checked in last night so we will be sat together both out and back. Lucky I did too, as only 4 places left on the flight with 2 or more seats together according to the plan.

    Thanks for your replies.

  4. Yes, lobster is definitely on the MDR menu. I was even offered a second one by our waiter, which of course I begrudgingly accepted!!! :D

He bought a whole other meal over and wasn't at all upset when I told him that I only wanted the lobster and he could keep the rice!

I guess he had double ordered by mistake.

  5. We used Rome in Limo (a driver and car for the day) and also hired a private guide for Pompei.

While this sounds extravagant (and certainly felt it), it worked out cheaper than the ships excursion.

For 8 people in a Mercedes Vito (large 9 seat SUV with leather and aircon) and the Pompei guide, it worked out to about 80 euro each, the ships equivalent being 130 for the coach party equivalent.

The Pompei guide, Barbara was amazing as she planned the route to avoid the coach parties and whenever we turned a corner and spotted a crowd, she knew a different route and/or order to see things which meant most of our visit, apart from the main square and entrance, felt like we were the only ones there!

We beat the crowds to the best preserved house with the recreated garden and original mosaics and paintings on the room walls and ceilings; amazing! She was also very knowledgeable, spoke excellent English and was happy to play cameraman for us!

Empty Pompei street, the amazing house and our wonderful guide, Barbara -

The driver took us through the Amalfi coast, reversing the route, so starting in Ravello and working our way back to try to best avoid the traffic (it was a public holiday on the day we were there).

He took us to a Limoncello makers for a tasting and even took us into the Hotel Caruso, a 1000+ euro a night hotel in Ravello and took a photo of each couple on the terrace overlooking the coast, one of the best views in the world (see photo)!

I could not recommend them highly enough!

We used them for Florence and Pisa and the lovely Canadian family we shared with also used them for the Rome day.

  6. We were offered bubbly on boarding Equinox in Barcelona in August.

We also found that the taxi fares were very reasonable. A taxi at about midnight from our pre-cruise role call paella near the top of the Rambla to the Hilton Diagonal Mar at the far end of town, by the beach and large shopping centre only being 10 Euro.

I guess there are some taxi drivers that push their luck...

  7. Hi Ben,

CC Hosts/hostesses oversee all the Captains Club events on board and are also a resource to all Captains Club members.

They are usually very personable and helpful.

    Ah, ok. Thanks.

I thought cc stood for cruise critic! :D

  8. I have just looked over all 36 pages of this immense thread over the course of 2 evenings.

I was hoping I would stumble upon the cabins that we have for our Equinox Med tour in August but alas, they are not here (yet).

So, we originally booked 7204 (deck 7, 2B grade) but upgraded a few days ago to 1027 (deck 10, Concierge C3 grade) and would like to know if you good folk think this was a worthwhile move as it cost us a few hundred pounds.

From my own limited understanding, I think that the new cabin should be roughly mid front hump, close to elevators with no overhang above and no lifeboats below so pretty much perfect.

Can anyone offer any info to confirm or contradict this? It would be much appreciated.

I was confused as to why it has only a c3 grade and can only assume that it is due to it being quite a way forward.

Any photos of the location would be a bonus (Cruisetrail?!?) :)

    Thanks,

    Ben
