  1. Someone stated that the bottom was muddy in the water and that water shoes are recommended. Did you fin that to be true? Was the actual beach sand nice (soft/white)?

most of Aruba is cloudy ocean water because of high salt content been there for over 3.5 wks in last couple years and not matter which beach it is not clear

  2. Baby Beach is a man made beach not on the ocean, its probably great for toddlers and not close to the cruise ship. Eagle Beach or Surfside Beach is closer to the cruise ship and on the Ocean.

  3. Often we just get off the ship and take a local taxi to a beach or pick up a local tour from the vendors at the port.

I have not been able to research much regarding doing this from the port at La Romana?

Has anyone done this, what are the approx. cost, and what did you end up doing?

La Romana has no port, you get off the ship at a square of cement, walk up a dirt hill and into a open area with roof to the excursion bus parking lot. I did not see anyone but the bus drivers, no one selling anything or offering tours. this open area with roof would be a great place for locals to set up tables and sell some stuff but there was nothing like that. on the bus and 45min. late you finally see something besides trees and hills.

  4. I was there in April. No timeshares in the pier area. The only thing we were approached for was an umbrella. $8 plus a tip for them putting it up. Everyone working there was uniformed and friendly. There is nothing within walking distance outside the pier pool area. It's a very poor area. There are comments under the port posts about timeshares even at Ocean World.

$8 for an umbrella at the pool near the pier? or did you find a nearby beach area? we had an over water cabana but the water was so dark and murky i didn't go in. walked to the other end of the port area but it was all rocks. i didn't think there was any 'beach' to speak of. there were umbrellas already set up at the pool as we were one of the first off the ship so i did not think you had to pay for that.

  5. Hi Everyone... I'm leaving tomorrow on Nieuw Amsterdam and will be in Amber Cove later this week. I rented a poolside cabana. I wanted to know from those that have been there if it is safe to leave our valuables in the cabana. I know we have a key to the cabana but i'm concerned leaving my money, i.d. and passport in the cabana unattended. Is it really safe to do so? Thanks and have a great day. Maryjo

we had over the water cabana and it had a safe for locking things up, they also had security at the entrance to the over the water cabanas to keep people from roaming in to them

  6. Our cruise ship (Ventura) was due to stop in Grenada on a Saturday and we were looking forward to going to the spice market. Unfortunately we are now visiting on the Sunday. We plan to go to Grand Anse for most of the day. We would like some help with the following:

    1. What is the best "touristy " thing to do in St Georges on a Sunday. I have read that the island is very quiet on a Sunday?

    2. How easy is it to go to and get back from grand Anse?

    3. It seems that Grand Anse is very large. Which is the best bit where we can rent sunbeds with some shade?

    Thank you

    Philip

in another thread i read that the bus does not run on sunday. taxi's will be available and excursions because a ship is in port. there was no mention if the water taxi will run. Grand Anse looks to be about 15min. drive i read from port. the port area has some nice spice markets and other shops.

    this website might help.

  7. Has anyone rented a car from Avis at La Romana? They show they have a port location on their website and was curious how close it actually was to the port.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using Forums mobile app

Good luck with that, there is nothing at La Romana but a cement slab, then a hill you walk up to a parking lot of excursion buses. never saw a taxi let alone car rental or a store of any type.

  8. Hello,

Can anybody tell me if there is anybody renting kayaks at the cruise center, or even any type of other water sports?

kayaks i have not seen but other water sports right there on the beach, just walk past marquaritaville and you'll see the vendors offering water sports

  9. Hello, if my daughter and her boyfriend go to Governor's Beach is there a place where they can rent kayaks and is it a decent place to snorkel there?

its a national park i think, don't think there are rentals. go to a resort like bohio further up the coast, they do excursions and snorkeling and such.

  10. Anyone know the cost of two loungers and a umbrella at moomba beach bar or nikkys???? Also do they have palapas us can rent and the cost thank you

you can't rent a palapas or shade tree, you can rent a lounger at moomba

it was 10 last time there

  11. I was told Baby Beach is a very nice beach, has anybody gone there? I curious to know whether they rent wave runners, kayaks or if snorkeling is good there, does anybody know?

no rentals, its a man made beach not the ocean. there is some snorkeling near the rocks. not at all representative of Aruba beaches. go to Eagle beach or Palm beach. best snorkeling is Malmok

  12. Local Village is closed. I think there's a new owner at the buildings and there are a couple of other spots along the walk between the cruise port and Jack's. Just take a walk and check them out and settle at one you like.

all you can do is take a walk down the beach , we were there in Nov and walked to Jacks, i hate the flys and bees there because of the juice in all of the drinks and never any seating... the first bar past Margarittaville has good fritters and beer. just walk it and see what works for you

  13. When we visited Grand Turk last May, this dog appeared and made his home under our half-shell. He never left our side until we packed up and headed back to the ship.

Anyone ever seen him there before? Know his name? We'll be there next Tuesday and hope to see him again.

    :cool:Bill

there are many wild dogs on the island, they have a humane society but they are not pro neuter you will see many walking the grand turk area unfortunately

  14. All we want to do is have a nice day on the beach with chairs, umbrellas, drinks, food and sandy beach. Is this possible in Bonaire? We would love something like nachi cocum in Cozumel. Anyone know of anything like this?

I have been looking for the same thing. Spice Beach Club looks like a possibility.

spice is within walking distance and does not charge to enter, you may pay for chair rental, food, drink. We hope to go to spice after our tour. some good snorkeling they say also.

  15. Thank you for your information, however, I think I am more confused than ever--lol. I have read your posts and sub posts and I can't decide on what beach to choose. We are traveling with our college aged kids who are looking to jet ski, get some sun and eat/drink. What is your opinion and/or advice?

Palm Beach is for you, there are all sorts of rentals and Jolly Pirates for snorkeling trips and such. we took public bus in Nov and went up to Malmok beach for snorkeling but had to walk back to Palm which took a lot of time. Between Palm and Eagle beach are the shops and restaurants. Moomba beach bar is the place to hang next to Marriott hotel.

  16. Most of the stuff for sale is really total garbage and made in China. Aruba is not a great stop for "native" handicrafts. They make beer and aloe products.

the only item made on aruba is aruba aloe - i love the bath gel and shampoo but they have an entire line of products

  17. Does the bus stop at all hotels along Palm Beach? We have a day pass arranged at Occidental Grand and are wondering about taking the bus over a taxi. If the bus doesn't stop at the Occidental, what is the closest stop? Thanks for any help.

just tell the driver, the bus station is right across the street from the port exit, we had to wait a good amount of time to even purchase the ticket but it stopped pretty much anywhere people wanted. if the line is long then grab a cab because it took us an hour between getting the ticket and getting up to palm beach.
