  1. Take a very large zip lock bag. Place the large item in the bag and add water and a small amount of shampoo. Massage the bag for several minutes and rinse the item very well. Squeeze out the excess water and hange to dry. Its the same principle as laundering undies in a small bag.

  2. We were on the same cruise and also have a place in Boynton. I would add:

    - We used the Crown Grill BOGO coupon on Embarkation night. Wonderful.

    - Really liked the omelets in the "back of the buffet".

    - Wait staff and Room Stewart were absolutely great.

    - The duo in the Wheelhouse were not very good. The did play "How Much if that Doggie in the Window" which was a fast 3/4 time. We were able to do "our" waltz to it.

    - Only issue I had was the sound level in the theater. I have been an entertainer for over 30 years and consequently have hearing loss. The sound was so high I had to cover my ears several times. I tried to talk to the CD about it. He basically said I was wrong and they were "required" not to play too loud. I asked what the db level was and he could not answer me.

    - We rented a car from Enterprise for about half of what Uber would charge. Dropped it off at the Hyatt Marina and walked to the ship. Very convenient.

DH is an audio engineer and he shares your sentiments. We bring our own earplugs so we can enjoy the shows.

  3. I realized today that living in SC, not even big name athletic stores carry winter coats. I tried on some Columbia coats in the clearance section, but I have a hard time thinking they will keep me warm on a glacier. Maybe they have advanced their coats in recent years to make the material not as bulky?

I would love some suggestions on coats that keep you warm. Please remember I'm used to 100 degree weather with 100% humidity in the summer, so the difference in climate in August is making me nervous.

We are from upstate SC . We did Alaska cruise-tour last may (and returning again this may for 2 weeks) Dress in layers is a must. I had a silk underwear top (or cuddleduds), long sleeve cotton tee shirts, sweaters, knitted scarf, gloves, and wind breaker with hidden hood. (Basically like we dress at home in the winter). I'm always cold but found dressing this way was more than adequate in Alaska. We also bought lightweight rain ponchos from amazon. They fold up neatly in their own pouch and take up very little room in our luggage or day-pack when on an excursion. Many of the ports will have wind breakers for sale at very reasonable prices.

  4. Trainguyga, we recently got the china , Vietnam, etc info. We are thinking about doing the 2014 fall trip. Would love to get your thoughts on the company and the trip. If you could email hubby and I at concertma@ charter.net. I was raised in Powder Springs and we are now in Greenville SC. :-) Thanks for any info. We are avid cruisers and this offer looked too good to turn down, but I wanted to do some CC homework first since we have never heard of this company before.

  5. Hey ladies, I have been "lurking" for quite a while, and think this is a wonderful thing you ladies do, and I would like to be a part of it all. I have a few things to post , but have to wait for my DIL to come to teach me how. (I barely navigate cruise critic.:confused:

I am not sure this will work, but I am "computer challenged", so this is the best I can do for now. If you cant see the pic I can email you one at granna.cruiser@gmail.com

    Hi Marie,

I have been lurking for several weeks now and love it that all of you ladies do this. I am VERY computer challenged and so mostly lurk. I have some things in my closet that I would love to share but i have no idea how to take pics and post them. =( I love the shoes that you posted and they are my perfect size, if no one wants them I would love them. Thank you. Also, if anyone could explain how to post my things that would be great!! :)

  7. I generally bring a travel mug with me. I do get up early and carrying a coffee cup around the ship with no lid is a losing proposition. Generally a cheap plastic one (I usually can find one in my pantry). I left it for the cabin steward last cruise as I could feel liquid between the layers and it didn't seem worth taking home.

Another thing I use is a collapsible, folding plate cover, just the thing if you want to walk your lunch from the buffet out on the busy deck or even back to your cabin to eat al fresco on the balcony without using room service. It is opaque, proof against nosy eyes.

Regarding the spare box of tissues mentioned above, I will try that next time.

Where did you purchase the dinner plate cover? DH loves to bring a snack back to our cabin after the evening show. :-)

  8. Hi granna22!

I have not heard any reports in reviews of Royal Princess regarding soot issues on aft decks, but that does't mean that it won't happen. There are a pair of 'wings' on the funnel that I believe are suppose to provide an updraft so that smoke and soot are directed further away from the ship. Also, wind direction etc. may play a factor.

Here is an aft picture with all of the cabins labeled. You have a pretty good sized balcony so you'll have to weigh the factors and determine if the risk is worth the real estate. If it were me I'd probably keep the cabin.

Dave, thanks for your quick response. As usual your a wealth of information. I appreciate your opinion. DH and I are going to stay with our Aft cabin. I feel a lot better about our location. :):)

Hope we get to meet you a cruise someday. Happy sailing on your upcoming cruise.:)

  9. Dave, I followed and loved your "Everything Royal Princess" and hated when they closed it down. Now I lurk around and just look for things interesting about Royal. I have a question now about the aft balcony's....we have R735 booked for the 11/17 Royal cruise and after reading the thread here, I am a bit concerned about the soot issue. Do you or anyone else that has been in the Royal in the aft cabins, know for sure if there is a soot problem?? If so, I still have time to change to a different cabin (D4) or maybe upgrade to a mini somewhere else. I LOVE sitting out on the balcony watching the wake, but never even considered there would be a soot issue. Thanks.

  10. She was our 1st cruise...our honeymoon cruise, in July of 1978. We had an oceanview cabin. What a surprise when we were shown our room, we had bunk beds on one wall and a single bed on the other wall opposite the window. Bunk beds for our honeymoon. lol

The midnight buffet was magnificent with sparkling ice sculptures and the food was displayed beautifully. If I remember correctly the Bingo was either free or very inexpensive. The Baked Alaska on the last night and the waiters carrying it out, lit with real flames

    , not battery candles.

At the formal Captains Dinner, the captain actually greeted everyone with a handshake, and a picture was taken as we came into the dining room ( I still have the picture). We also have a picture of the entire "honeymoon" group.

We sailed to Nassau, St Thomas and Porto Rico. The cruise was so beautiful that it addicted us to cruising and when we returned to cruising after raising our sons and college bills over, we again returned to Carnival to begin our cruising years. We now cruise Princess too, which is owned by Carnival.

So sweet the memories of that beautiful Lady, the Mardi Gras. It would have been nice to cruise her just one more time......
