  1. On the pride next march and hopefully they will be regulars on the ship and come back after their vacation.

Good cover bands are great and hated to see them taken away.

They have been on the ship for 35 days and their contracts are normally for 6 months. I hope what a previous poster said about the lounge getting taken out for the Red Frog Pub during dry dock is incorrect. This lounge is nice and one of the better places to hear live music on the ship!

  2. Thanks! We will be sailing on the Pride on July 13th! I saw the pic in your profile. What can you tell me about scooters in Freeport. We usually end up staying on board at Freeport.

You can rent the scooter's right inside the little port area. It's $60 for the day. We rented one and drove around the island. My hubby drove the two of us around because I was nervous about the whole driving on the opposite side of the road :D! It is definitely an experience when you go out on your own. I know a lot of people say that they don't like this port but they have the most beautiful beaches. Taino beach is the one we usually go to. You can also take a cab there. It's very clean and there aren't a bunch of people bothering you to buy stuff. They do have some but a simple no thank you and they will leave you alone. We've also drove to the Lucayan National Park. It does take quite a while (about 45 minutes) to get there but it's just one road to drive on. I guess that's the one down side of Freeport, it's such a short stay!

  3. Run don't walk to The Starry Night lounge every night from about 7 pm to midnight most nights (check your Fun Times) to see the house Filipino band HI LUX! They are beyond wonderful! Between sets when they take their "break" they stay in the lounge and talk to the guests, introduce themselves and ask for requests! They played country, Motown, classic rock, pop...you name it! They'll sing it! They are like a jukebox. It's awesome! They consist of a keyboard player (female), drummer, guitarist, and a bass player. The keyboardist, guitarist, and drummer all sing and are fantastic. They have a great chemistry between them and you can tell they actually enjoy being there! They do a cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody that is superb. They said it took two weeks to learn just that song one week for vocals and one week for instrumentals. I absolutely cannot say enough about how great this band is. They definitely made my DH and my cruise. We introduced ourselves the first night and every night after that, they always said hi to us whether in the lounge or around the ship!

Carnival! You got it right with this band! Give them a raise, they deserve it!

  4. I have worked in the hospitality field for about 12 years. It is my opinion, that if you chose to work in this field, it is an unspoken part of your job responsibilities to smile and acknowledge the customer. I have worked upwards of sixty grueling hours in a week and I still muster the energy to smile and great customers in a friendly way. It is not their job to be happy but it is their job to make me as a customer feel like my being there isn't an unknown form of torture!

However, I do understand that everyone can have "off" days or have extenuating circumstances. It is their responsibility to make it work.

In my experience, 90% of the workers that I have come into contact with on a cruise ship always acknowledge me by name or a simple hello, how are you, have a good day. I also expect that if I smile at you, I will get one in return. I always am polite and acknowledge them so I expect nothing less in return.

  5. You can pre-order a cake (they are actually pretty good). Or if you wait until you get on the ship you can go to cherry-on-top (near the fun shops) and get a cake and a single red rose delivered table side whichever night you pick. Just remember you can't take the rose off the ship when you debark. There are tons of things that can be pre-ordered or ordered on the ship. Hope she enjoys her 20th...she will be on a cruise so that automatically makes it extra awesome!

  6. I know this may sound odd, but when we were on the Glory, they had Goldish things the coffee came out of and it was TERRIBLE! It tasted tinny! We've been on the Pride, Miracle, and Splendor and the coffee came out of not a goldish container and it was fine! I bring along powdered flavored creamer and add a little bit of that. The coffee is fine...I have never bought the specialty coffee's and I have survived. I may have to try one my next cruise...

  7. My DH only drinks green tea and only a few times we couldn't find it at any of the tea boxes available through out the lido. We kindly asked one of the crew on the lido deck and they brought us out the green tea promptly. We also order it every morning through room service with our breakfast and just put it aside in case we can't find it. I bring my own flavored creamer. I bring the powdered international delight Irish creamer! My fav.

  8. Every time we pull into a port and DH and myself are on out balcony; and see that beautiful crystal clear water, Dh always says..."OMG I want to just dive in" but he has what that guy did not. Common sense. They were pulling into port at the time whats to say they didn't turn on the thrusters on the side and the guy would have been pulled under and never seen again!? Then his friends and companion would have sued I'm sure. And if the guy did actually make money off this, I find that utterly appalling that anyone would encourage that. Let's just hope one of his "stunts" takes him out of the gene pool before he procreates!!!

  9. First, sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis. Losing a parent is never easy.

According to my Carnival PVP who I have used a few times and love! He is extremely knowledgeable. You can actually purchase the insurance through Carnival up until 2 weeks before your sail date...so, if your not going until the middle of April you should have more than enough time to purchase the insurance.

  10. I've been offered an "upsell" on a few cruises. Normally what I do when I book is make a spread sheet of all the categories I am interested in booking. We normally book a regular aft. balcony. But we have booked wraps and extended also. When I book, I look at what it would cost for a few higher categories and add this to the spread sheet. When they call for the upsell, I look at the price these were when I booked compared to what it would cost when they call. If you're willing to spend a little extra, go for it. Sometimes the deals are not great at all!

Sometimes they will give you and awesome deal. I once went from an obstructed view balcony to an aft. extended (deck 7) for about $45 total. It was an excellent deal and one I couldn't pass up! When I originally booked, that category was approx. $55 more pp and when they called it would have been $75 more pp. So in my mind it was a steal.

This is what I personally do but it all depends on how much more you personally are willing to pay for the upgrade. But always and I mean always look at the deck plans to see where they are trying to "upsell/upgrade" you to! Sometimes it's a higher category but a terrible location!

  11. When I booked our May cruise on the Pride a few weeks ago, FTTF was sold out :( I checked a few days ago and more were available. Keep an eye out. Sometimes you may have to check a few times a day. Don't be discouraged...I'm sure more will open up before you sail. Good Luck!

  12. As of August 2013, the Pride takes quarters. You can run down to guest services and get them. I usually take a roll with me.

    Wash: $3.00

    Dry: $3.00

Laundry Soap (powder), fabric softener sheets: $1.00 each.

I've seen: All, Tide, Sun Surf, and Snuggle offered. A lot of people swear by the 3-in-1 sheets or the pods. The dryers aren't fantastic and normally have to go through the cycle twice because the clothes will still be really damp after the first cycle of an hour.

  13. We know someone who got the "free offer" but they currently have an ill family member. They want to book (and can really enjoy the financial freedom from paying full price for a much needed cruise) but can they get the Vacation Protection for it "IF" they need to head home early from the cruise, even though they only paid the taxes and fees.

I thought it was a good question and wondered if anyone did this for their free cruise? What if they need to cancel the free cruise prior to sail date and have PPV...can they re-book another free cruise in the future?

Just thought I would throw it out there. Thanks!!

I do not believe the vacation protection will cover if they have to leave due to a sick family member. And since all they are paying are port fees and taxes, it won't be refunded to them. They definitely should get insurance on the cruise if they think for even a second they may have to cancel. If they do not and they have to cancel or are no shows they will be responsible for paying whatever the cruise price is at the time of sailing for whatever room they've booked. The insurance is based on cruise price but for the free cruise I was quoted $49 pp.
