  1. This will be our last one after 30 cruises.  So we are going back to the old fashioned way, envelopes!

We enjoyed handing it to them & saying goodbye to them.  Since it was changed it has become less personal.  I can understand why because people were being cheap.  We will request the same waiter & also give something to any other person who we come into contact with.  With asking $35. for the two of us a day plus the butler & concierge, we will do it our way.

  2. At first we didn't take the drink package like everyone else did. Then I thought of it in a different way. I could not drink 89. worth a day. At 20 percent it's 17.80 a day we are being charged so if I paid for two drinks plus tip a day it would come to 24.00. Drinks have really gotten expensive now. So why wouldn't I get the deal. This way I wouldn't feel bad about ordering another drink.

  3. Did you do the Hilton from a ship docked in Ochos Rios? It looks pretty far on the map, and much closer to Montego Bay.

It probably was Montego Bay or Falmouth. I am looking for it from Ochos Rios & it's not coming up.

  4. I really want to address the pool deck...didn’t like it on Breakaway and it was no better on Escape. We always got lounge chairs in the shade, which we prefer, but the deck is WAY too small. Chairs are butt-to-butt and the pools way too small. I think you all have seen the pix!

Spice H2O was not any better...totally packed so much you couldn’t even walk around and no shade! We did find 2 chairs but certainly not the vacation feel we expect, rather go to Jones Beach.

This really is a dealbreaker for us...we love being outside with other people and enjoy the music and antics at the pools, even though we have a balcony cabin. This class of ship is way too small in relationship to the number of passengers. Also we had a few bad weather days and inside activities and seating is lacking, and Anthem puts BA class to shame when forced inside.

I have to say Royal ships Anthem, Explorer and Liberty (NJ) were much better in this area. We have been on 12 NCL cruises and 7 Royal cruises and will only cruises BA class if the price is right and itinerary is unique, otherwise the Jewel class is our favorite with acceptable pool deck area, Spinakker lounge and the Great Outdoors...our favorite class.

I must say, services have improved incredibly since our last cruise on BA so we’re really happy about that and would compare all cruises equally. We usually cruise twice a year with one cruise planned far in advance and the other closer to the sail date. We live in the NY area so it’s very convenient to book a last minute cruise out of NYC, Bayonne, and Baltimore. Also want to add the NY, NJ , and CT schools were still in session so the ship, although sold out, was not at capacity. And have been on Royal and NCL during full capacity cruises.

Just our opinion. My rant is over...sorry to everyone but we’ve cruised over 25 times and always loved NCL but overall disappointed that they are not our first choice anymore.

The ships have become bigger & especially for children. We cruise in February & Celebrity is the best for us. We are cruising NCL again, but only for the Haven to have our own heaven!

  5. Ok, points well taken! Yes, the ones in the background live for those tips so we will do the DSC, we always did. We are in the Haven & will tip the butler & concierge & anyone else who provides extra service or is just exceptionally nice. The End!

  6. My point was that we were told they take a percentage off to do the paper work on prepaid gratuities. For 30 cruises we always did what we were supposed to do plus more. We just thought to make our last cruise something special, we would do it the old fashioned way to be more personal!

  7. Our favorite is Celebrity, but we jumped ship this time. We have tried a lot of cruise lines & rooms. We were booked on the Edge next year, but we switched to NCL because of something different, the Haven. It's our ship within the ship.
