We are going to take the Celebrity Eclipse cruise from Reykjavik to Boston in August of 2024 and were planning to spend two full days there before boarding the cruise.  Was interested in a three things:

    1. Reasonably priced hotels situated near the port and other sites

    2. Tour operators that provide tours from Reykjavik, Isafjordur and Akuueyi

    3. Best way to get from Keflavik to Reykjavik.

    Thanks in advance

We are on the same cruise. I am very late at organizing. We are also planning to stay in Reykajvik for 2-3 nights prior to the cruise.   Just wondering if you  booked a hotel yet. That's next on my list to do and then arrange tours.  I just need to find out if our friends are coming in early too.   Hope to meet you.  I posted on our roll call a while ago.   But, need to get more active on it.

  2. Gate 1 put us up at the Sofitel!   It was great and would stay there again if we ever stay in Budapest. Location was perfect. Beautiful city and wish we had more time there.  We were there 3 nights.  Because the river was low and we were not able to sail into the city, Gate 1 gave us a night river cruise.  It was a highlight of our trip.   Definitely would recommend doing this if you can’t sail in or out of the city.

  3. We arrived home last week from a Gate 1 Danube cruise from Vilshofen to Budapest.   The ship was unable to sail from Vienna to Budapest.  I was prepared to hear this news thanks to the cruise critic posts.  Gate 1 bused us for a day trip to and from Bratislava.  They gave each person money to buy lunch.   The next day we had to pack to be bused to Budapest.   Again, we received lunch money and we were put into a hotel.  We only missed one night on the ship.  Everything was handled well.  While we toured the city with Gate 1 our luggage was put in our room at the hotel.  That night they had a special dinner for us with entertainment.  Then they treated us to a night cruise on the river since we missed the sail into Budapest.  The night cruise was beautiful and made up for the long bus trip.  It would have been nice to stay on ship but gate 1 did a great job making up for it.

  4. We are using Solo on our Celebrity Infinity cruise on March 13. They sent me a map and I did notice 2 piers. Does anyone know which pier Celebrity will be using for their tender port? On of the piers, we can walk to Solo and the other one will need a taxi. We have 12 in our group booked with them. We are also going to Punta Tumbo on March 9 and using Sentir Patagonia. They were highly recommended and includes a box lunch for us on the bus.

  5. I heard it from another cruise critic member and confirmed it with Diego. A friend of mine just stayed there and said it was run down. I heard the new owners will start renovations and a lot of the public areas will be closed. But I haven’t heard what areas they will be working on. The target start time was the 1st.

  6. We will be leaving on Feb 27 so I will let you know how our tour is. We were booked at the Sheraton but they started construction to refurbish it on Feb 1. We changed to the Grand in the town. We are a little disappointed but don’t want to stay there with construction going on.

  7. We booked with Buenos-aires-tours (discover Uruguay is the parent company). We will stay 2 nights at the Sheraton (Melia) and will get a tour of the falls (included the boat that goes under the falls) and they will also transfer us to and from the town if we want dinner that night. Since we are sailing from BA, it also includes 2 nights in BA with a tour and a tango/dinner show.

  8. We are going with Diego in March and are making 3 payments. Final is due in November. Yes, we are pre-paying but I got an extra travel insurance plan just for the pre-trip to the falls since my other insurance was with the cruise lines. Diego has been amazing to work with and I feel confident that he will be fine. It will just be a matter if I had to cancel for some reason.

  9. We will be on this cruise leaving from Havana on Aug. 7. It was interesting reading everyone's post and hearing about the boarding in Havana. We planned this through a group travel company so will be on their schedule. With the new Cuba regulations for Americans, I am glad we are with an organized group tour. When we come back to Havana, we will spend one night in a hotel in the city with the group tour.

From what I have been reading, people are not too dressy on their captain gala night. Is this true? With the weight restriction for our luggage on the charter flight from Miami to Havana, I know my husband would not want to bring a jacket. I am expecting it to be hot and humid so I don't plan on bringing heavier clothes which will help with the weight.

How does the ship work it out for those getting disembarking and embarking in Montego Bay? Would we need to be out of our cabins because new people are coming on the ship? We have been there so many times that we may not be getting off the ship.

  10. I am thinking about booking with them for our cruise next year. They were recommended by someone I met on another cruise who used them this year. She went to the peninsula. I would like to go to Punto Tombo but hesitant because of the drive. For those who went there, is it worth the drive?

  11. We have not been yet. Going on the Emerald Princess, Jan 2018. We did go ahead and book them. I had gotten their name from lady I met on another cruise who had used them and really liked them. I found where they were mentioned favorably on a couple of travel blogs. I just really liked the idea that someone else would plan it all out for us. We will be flying to BA and doing the Iguazo Falls tour first, then 2 days in BA before the cruise and they are arranging all of that for use. Don't like the fact that we have to pay in full before the tour but that is what trip insurance is for! Good luck to us both!!!!!

They have been good to work with. Another person on my roll call is working with Kensington tours for a pre trip to the falls. BA is a little less for a comparison trip. I still need to talk to our friends. It would be nice to book it with others on our roll call though. I haven't seen cruise critic members who had experience with either company
