  1. I can't speak to location, or convenience of walking, but as far as time is concerned, we've used YTD ever since it came out. We love the convenience of going to dinner when we want to go to dinner, when we're hungry, not just the time slot we've been given. It's great if you get back on board after port and want to have a late lunch at 3 or so, you don't have to worry about spoiling your appetite!

Also, when there are lots of activities happening, I appreciate not being saddled with an exact time to be at the dining room... if we're 30 minutes later, no big deal.

We're taking a family cruise next and I'm expecting this to be a huge benefit with my then 10 YO grandson, so we can eat when it makes sense, not at a pre-defined time...

Yes, it’s very necessary for a big group. On port days, it’s always a hassle to make everybody ready for the dinner, especially the elegant night.

  2. We have always done the your time dinning so we aren't on a schedule. We have always been able to get the same group of servers each night if we asked.

Thanks. It’s good to know we can get same group of servers. I see Vista has specific computer system to assign the tables at deck 5, and guess it may be difficult to request same servers. My son has minor special needs. It’s easy to communicate with same person. He was always well taken care of at MDR.

  3. Hi, we booked a cove balcony cabin at the front/mid section under Guest Service. We were assigned Your Time Dining. The early dining was waitlisted.

I think the reflection dining room in the middle was closed to our cabin. We have elementary school age children and always chose early dining for better time management. We enjoyed the convenience of same table and same waiters. I also hear about your time dining is assigned to more beautiful horizon dining room in the aft of the ship. It is a long way from our room, and we need to get up to deck 5 and go down to assigned table.

I think if I requested, I could mostly like get the dining room I want, but which dining room should I try? What’s your choice? Do you enjoy your dining room choice?

  4. First of all at 10 am the ship will still be debarking guests. I just can not understand why people have to get to the terminal so early. We are Platinum and usually arrive between 12-1. They won't run out of burgers, there will still be plenty of liquor. The later boarding is much more relaxed. What are going to gain by being the first on board? Our last 2 cruises were B2B and the computers were not reset until 11-11:15, so no food or liquor until they clear the previous trip. As Aaron Rogers says R-E-L-A-X

Yeah, you're right. I totally agree with you. We live about one hour and thirty minutes away from the port. My husband is always ready at time earlier than we really needed, no matter catching airplane, boarding cruise, attending church, etc. That's his style. Because of me and kids, we never arrive really early;p

  5. With FTTF it doesn't matter. Show up whenever you like and get in the express line (suite/plat/diamond/fttf).

Thank you! If for people who do not have FTTF, do they have to really follow the arrival window? If they are late, they still just get in line and wait for boarding, right? What's the arrival window designed for? For carnival to control and smooth boarding process?

  6. Hub app is free to everyone. Just download it before you set sail. There is no way to restrict what the kids see on the hub app. They will be able to view the ship map, daily itinerary, menus and Sail & sign charges.

The Chat app is a 5.00 fee per device. I had it set up (while I was waiting to board the ship in the port) for my entire family - including my kids 10 & 13. During set up of the chat app, it does ask if you are over 13 - and to get parents permission before loading the chat app. There is a check box button to confirm.

Unfortunately, we were not able to use the chat app on the Elation due to technical difficulties - which the ship knew of ahead of time - but were refunded to app costs on day 2 (we had to request it).

The hub app feature is great and you can flag certain activities and it will show up on everyone connected to your account.

We used it to show where we would be in the event the kids were looking for us.

For example - we clicked the HEART icon next to "Trivia @ Gatsby Bar - 2:00 PM". The kids knew we would be there as it showed up in their HUB app that I clicked the HEART icon.

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. It's really helpful! I have downloaded the app on their iPads. They don't have phones yet. Maybe it's okay for them to see how much it cost to have Great Fun!

  7. My kids are 11 and 8. I think it's nice for them to view the deck map and activity on their iPads.

Does Carnival allow those kids to use Hub and Chat feature? But I don't want them to see the fee summary page. Are parents able to control what available to youth?

    Thanks!

  8. I have pre-ordered value wifi plan for myself. My husband said he would not use internet that often, and probably would just try Hub text $5 for the sailing. My question is, if I have wifi plan, and want to text him in Hub app, do I need to activate the feature with another $5 payment? Or, the Hub text feature is available to use if we purchased the wifi plan?

We will be on the Valor this weekend. Is the wifi signal strong on the ship? I remember that Carnival announced in summer 2017 that they will boost signals even in staterooms. Anyone has sailed on Valor recently? Thanks.
