We do speciality dinning for only one reason the quieter atmosphere. To me the quality of the food is not worth the extra cost which seems to keep going up while overall quality in my opinion goes down. We were on the May 5th Grandeur Bermuda cruise and ate in chops twice which I found very disappointing and Izumi once which was just very average and Giovanis once which we also found just average chain food quality. As has been stated before opinions on food in a very subjective topic and what one person may love another may hate.To me the biggest disappointment was Chops we have eaten there every cruise and years ago loved it but now we find the selection and quality has really declined in our opinion.

We were on the May 5th Grandeur Bermuda cruise and the casino closed when the pilot gets on board as you approach Bermuda and reopens at 9:00pm while in port. It stays closed the next day in Bermuda until the ship clears Bermuda controlled waters and closes again when the Pilot comes on board as you enter the bay on the last night as you return to Baltimore.

From what I am seeing it appears to be a big hit or miss you love it or hate it depending on what ship you were on. My issue is why can't the quality of food and service be the same no matter which ship you happen to be on. When we first ate at a Chops on the Grandeur years ago the charge was $25 and the food selection and quality were worth every penny. As the years went by we saw the menu selection decrease and the consistent quality of the food decrease sometimes it was great sometimes it was average and sometimes it just totally missed the mark so I guess I am asking why?

We book for the privacy and service also but if the price keeps going up and the quality down we will really have to reconsider that choice.

Last year on Grandeur in Chops I had a filet that was really bad and did send it back they brought it back to me and it was still really bad so I gave up on it. They offered me a free lunch to replace it and I agreed and they said they would hand pick me a really good filet which they did and it was delicious. I don't understand why they had to make a special effort to give me a good steak it seems to me they should all be good if they are the premium steakhouse they claim to be.

Yes the sides have also decreased in selection and really decreased in size.

On Grandeur last week I ate in Chops twice first time I had the 6oz filet which I found on the chewy side and of no better quality than I would expect at an average chain such as Outback. I am not saying the filet was not edible but was not anything close to a tender filet you would expect in a quality steakhouse which Chops claims to be. The second time at Chops I decided to try the Jumbo spicy shrimp and what I received was a real disappointment. I got a bowl with 5 medium at best sized shrimp no where near jumbo stuck into a bed of mashed potatoes. Why in the world world would anyone think shrimp stuck into mashed potatoes is a good combination. The shrimp besides being small Han little to no taste and were nowhere near spicy. I did complain to our waiter and their solution was to bring me a small cup of red pepper flakes to sprinkle on the shrimp. I have eaten at Chops on all of our previous cruises and have noticed a slow deterioration in food quality and not worth the ever increasing additional charge.

DL on Grandeur is great. Beautiful view great food and drinks. We just got off a 5 night cruise and it was never crowded always seats available the same has been true for the two previous cruises. We attended the happy hour each night and really enjoyed it. We used the free drinks on the sea pass card to pick up cocktails from the Bar before going into dinner.

Pretty but expensive.

As I said we did not try the MDR but the guests we met in the DL during the nightly happy our all commented on how Dis appointed they were in the MDR food but food is a very subjective topic what one likes the other may hate.

just returned from 5 night Bermuda cruise on Grandeur and have a few observations to report. First getting on board and off in Baltimore was a piece of cake only took 20 minutes to check in and 15 minutes to get off today. Ships condition is over all pretty good she is showing her age in some areas especially the dated cabins. We had a JS on deck 8 which was OK but could really use a little fleshing up. Our cabin attendant was excellent and kept the cabin neat and clean and was always available to address any of our requests. The staff in general was very friendly and tried their best to ensure you enjoyed yourself
The food left a lot to be desired for my tastes we ate all of our dinners in the specialty venues and did not think any of them were great and worth the price difference. We did do lunch in the Windjammer and did not really care for the food there. We heard numerous complaints about the new dinner menus nobody had anything good to say about their meals in the great goats by dinning room.

It does not make a difference where you loose your sea pass card GS can replace it immediately. They just void the old card and issue a new one via computer terminal.

The bigger room, balcony and bath does it for me plus the extra points are nice.

I'll be getting on when you get off on the 5th heading to Bermuda. Have a safe trip.

There were no changes to the WJ after the 2017 dry dock.

I really don't worry what everyone else does or doesn't do that's not my business but I do tip $1.00 per drink in the DL and at any bar I use the free drinks on card on including the free Casino drinks I receive because I want to and personally think it's really appreciated by the staff regardless of what pay they do or do not receive for the service they provide.

Agree 100%

Can't believe someone would be so petty as to ask you be removed from the DL for wearing shorts. Was the lounge crowded and did they have overflow in the South Pacific lounge? We are also diamond and really enjoy the DL on the Grandeur our last two cruises did not have a large number of diamonds and every one fit in the actual lounge with no problem. We sail again on the Grandeur May 5th and am looking forward to the happy hour in the lounge.

So what you are saying is that Royal is running a fixed game ? Do you also think they are fixing the computers that generate the spins on the casino slots? You are making a serious allegation that I doubt you have anyway of backing up.

Where did you get the information about the stabilizers and bad engine?
-
On Grandeur you can smoke cigars in the poolside smoking area on deck 9 or the smoking area on port side deck 5

Leaving the balcony light on is very annoying to your neighbors .

No way to predict what the seas will be but in May they are more likely to be good. We are also sailing on the Grandeur on the May 5th sailing. We did the same cruise last year on May 13th and the seas were pretty smooth.

Grandeur had her dry dock mini rehab last April I doubt it will have any additional rehab in the near future.
Can water bottles be brought on board in Baltimore?
in Royal Caribbean International

At security they spotted bottles of water in my carry on and made me remove it to prove it was sealed bottles. After verifying it was sealed I was allowed to keep it.
