  1. Yes to clarify it is a credit card not a debit card (as said in the title and post). You are fortunate to have no concerns about your limit. However don’t assume that’s the case for everyone. We have a large family and we worked hard to pay for this vacation. Yes we have a budget and are planned ahead to stay within it. Thanks for the responses. Seems like $300 for a couple is the standard.

  2. We enjoyed our Sunday there last month. We were THE only ship in port, and it made getting around very easy. We walked to the bus depot and caught the bus and rode it to Cemetery Beach, stayed for a couple hours and then flagged down a bus to go back to the port. Some shops and restaurants were indeed open. Still plenty to do. iMHO.

How long did it take to get to that beach?

  3. NFLDpenguin, I see you're Canadian. What do the cruise lines say when you tell them you want to bring a service dog aboard? Have you ever been turned down? I am aware that Canadian provincial and national laws do not address the right of a Canadian to bring a service dog on a cruise ship the way the U.S. laws do, but I believe that some cruise lines simply extend the courtesy to Canadians that they give U.S. cruisers with service dogs. I'm deeply interested in your experience.

Although we are experienced cruisers, our service dog is new so it will be the first cruise with the service dog. There was no issue with NCL at all, They just told me to provide the same required documentation. That's what I'm looking into now. Trying to make sure I have all the correct documents for the ship as well as any ports we're stopping at.

  4. Cruise itinerary changes came out today and we finally know our new ports. I'm Canadian and will be driving down to sail out of New York.

We've sailed before, but our son's service dog is new and this will be our first trip. I'm trying to get as much info and paperwork done right away as I know Dec will come quickly. But I have to admit, now that I''m looking into it, it's a bit overwhelming and intimidating. Starting to wonder how many ports we will actually all be able to go to as a full family with our dog. I'm trying to remain positive and get everything completed as quickly as possible.

I'll list our ports, in hopes that some of you may know some info or have some feedback about them.

    Port Canaveral, Florida

    Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas

    Nassau, Bahamas

    Costa Maya, Mexico

    George Town, Grand Cayman

    Ocho Rios, Jamaica

    Back to New York

  5. If you are from Canada you should look at the requirements of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. They have a different International Health Certificate than the US version. This website looks like it is a good place to start your research:

If it were me, I would contact NCL and tell them that sand will not work for your dog (it is a huge mess and will be tracked all over). I would definitely practice with your dog ahead of time. My dog has a box in our backyard that she always uses so its no big deal and she is trained to go on any surface.

THanks Dianne, I will check out that link. Just got the new itinerary today so can do all my homework for various ports now. I will make the request for no sand. Thanks for that tip as well.

  6. Hello everyone! Looks like I've come to the longest ever thread with hopefully a ton of helpful info and kind people.

My son just got his service dog this year so although it's not our first cruise, it's our first with our service dog. I have about a million questions. But I'll just start with a few. We will be travelling on NCL Breakaway Dec 2017.

Is NCL usually good for service dogs? What are the potty boxes like? Where do they usually place them? Did you train your dog to use one ahead of time? Any tips for that?

    thanks so much

  7. We're travelling in Dec 2017 on NCL Breakaway. Not our first cruise, but first time with my son's service dog. Yes, I've seen that there is a post about service dogs, however it's 1000 pages long so difficult to navigate. I'm hoping to connect with someone who can offer some advice. I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of help from NCL on this info. I'm trying to find out info about the ports and which ones are suitable to bring the dog and maybe some that aren't. Also what is required? I want to avoid any issues by planning ahead. Our ports will be San Juan, St. Thomas, Tortola, Philipsburg, St. John's and Basseterre.

  8. I'm looking to connect and chat with someone who is experienced in travelling NCL with their service dog. I know there is a thread about service dogs but it's several years long and I'm finding it difficult to dig through it to find specifically what I'm looking for. The ports I'll be going to are San Juan, St. Thomas, Tortola, Philipsburg, St. John's, Basseterre. Hoping to find out more info about these ports and more about what's needed to bring my dog off ship at these ports (or maybe just some of them). And yes I have contacted guest services who just gave me another website that really hasn't helped either.

  9. I am making several payments towards my cruise as it helps us with budgeting. Each pay day I can pay various amounts. If I pay online does anyone know what the minimum payment amount allowed is? for example I tried to pay $50 but it said that didn't meet the minimum. I like the option of being able to pay any extra anytime I have it.
