Yes, all the “popular” beaches will be rammed…

But there is a place that has all the requirements for genteel and discerning Cruisers also Vacationers……Catherine’s Cafe….

Book one’s lunch/day in advance….. Space is limited.

The private taxi fare is $40 e/w keeps the herds away…..Worth the extra dollars.

so I booked a time of 10:30 on OpenTable but I don't want to eat them.  Does this reservation get us a chair/umbrella or just time in the restaurant?  I am a bit confused.

  2. Does anyone know the earliest you can drop your bags off at the Pride of America in the Port of Honolulu? I am attempting to see Pearl Harbor in the morning but you can't take bags to the Memorial and who would really want to lug them around. Just curious if we could "drop and run" without actually getting on board.

  3. I am trying to figure out if we have the time to visit Pearl Harbor the day of embarkation on the POA. I believe we must be on board by 5 pm (2 hours before 7 pm departure) and thought seeing Pearl Harbor that day would be a great way to end our time in Oahu. Has anyone else done this? I got tickets on line for 1 pm for the tour but I also saw you can just go over in the morning and perhaps get on an earlier tour. I believe my hotel will hold our suitcases for us but I was also thinking of going to the Port, dropping our luggage off and then heading to Pearl since we do have tour tickets already. Does anyone know how early we can drop luggage off at the port?

I am basically trying to decide to leave luggage at hotel, take a taxi to Pearl, tour the memorial for a few hours, return by taxi to the hotel to get bags, then onto the port for embarkation. OR take a taxi to the port, drop our luggage, go to Pearl for our 1 pm tour and then take a taxi back to the port. Decisions, decisions.....:D

  4. Thanks for the input. I booked the HIE because we are coming in fairly late in the evening (@ 7 pm) so we really don't need restaurants or such. I like HIE as I know what to expect and they will pick us up at the airport. Read some great reviews on the property and the rate is almost $100 cheaper than their standard rate with no cancellation offered so I think its a pretty good deal. Thanks for everyone's input! :)

  5. Hmmm...since when does LMT have non refundable rates? Unless it is a special hotel rate with restrictions.

Maybe I'm wrong it says the following:

"Room Cancellation Policy: Hotel cancellations or changes made 3 day/s prior to check in time (noon local hotel time), will be subject to 1 night/s fee

Hotel Cancellations or changes made 1 day/prior to check in time (noon local hotel time), will be subject to a full fare fee

No show is subjected to a full fare fee"

Am I reading this wrong? I guess maybe I have until 3 days prior to cancel?? It is worded as if any change made prior to 3 days would be cause to lose the 1 nights fee.

  6. If Valuetrips has Hyatt Place for your date, that would be a great choice. It's really close to Total Wine and close to the airport/port with a free airport shuttle.

Another area to consider is State Rd 84 (AKA SW 24th St)...this is the closest hotel area to the airport! In the Southland shopping center there are Winn-Dixie and Big Daddy Liquors. Just west of the shopping center are a Hampton Inn, Best Western, Holiday Inn Express, and Candlewood Suites. There are a few restaurants on the block too. It's not a really nice area, but would be fine if you're just staying for one night and can get a good price.

I can get a pretty good rate for the Holiday Inn Express there. Thank you for the information....I'm booking this hotel. I know what I get with HIE but I wasn't sure of the area. Thanks again!

  7. We used Jiffy Jeff for our Cruise this past February and they were wonderful! We were picked up at FLL as we walked out the door of the baggage claim, taken straight to our Hotel in Miami with lovely conversation during the trip over - driver even recommended some places to eat for dinner. Upon our return to the POM Jeff called us as we walked off the boat and picked us up right out front of the doors of the terminal. I am definitely using them again in February 2016!!

  8. I'm right there with you. I've booked twice now and thankfully both had free cancellation because after consulting with these boards I realized the hotels were not the best. My concern is how close to the port should we book a hotel since it seems taxi's will cost a pretty penny to get to the port because of traffic. I also saw the Hyatt Pier 66 hotel for $200/night but I've read some pretty mixed reviews with that hotel. It's such a crap shoot!

  9. thanks everyone! I already cancelled the rooms and will just keep looking. The Hyatt Pier 66 looks nice and it is $250/night right now. Probably will book there.

I tried LMT and the only thing that came up was a Travelodge at $162 and I won't pay that for a Travelodge!

I just found the Westin for $198/night!! Is this a good hotel???

  10. Really??? On trip advisor there are glowing reviews about this hotel and no mention of bad area at all....It is only 7.9 miles from the port.... how much are taxi rates in Ft. Lauderdale for it to cost that much to get to the port?? Wow. This is why I love Cruise Critic...would not have known this info without people sharing!:)

  11. Sailing on Princess for the first time in almost 12 years and I am curious about the beverage plan. Is there a time limit between purchases? I know on Carnival you had to wait 5 minutes between each drink. Just curious as my hubby usually likes to get 2 beers at a time and put one in a bucket of ice so he doesn't have to get up from his lounge chair as much! LOL:D

  12. We stayed at the Yve in February this year and it was awful. The rooms are barely bigger than the bed and the bathroom was just as small. I could literally brush my teeth while sitting on the toilet! YUCK!! It was so small I couldn't shut the door because it made me feel claustrophobic. The buffet was EXTREMELY overpriced ($35) and the food was mediocre at best. We had to carry our bags down 9 flights of stairs because the elevators were not working. Eventually they had a maintenance man running the ONE elevator to each floor but it was not helping the backup in the hallways. We had one window in the room and it was in the corner so far up and so small we couldn't see anything even if we wanted to. If you can get your money back I would recommend you try somewhere else. I paid WAY too much for this hotel and will never stay again. The only thing we enjoyed was being able to walk to the Bayside Marketplace and there is a CVS right next door.

To each their own but this was WAY smaller than I had envisioned and the elevator situation was horrible.

  14. Jiffy Jeff transportation was the best!! We had a later flight into Ft. Lauderdale and needed transportation to our Miami hotel. The Jiffy Jeff driver was at the curbside when we walked out with our bags and we were on our way within minutues! Very courteous and professional. The drive was uneventful and he was very friendly making the ride even better!

Our return trip after our cruise was again very professional and we arrived back in Ft. Lauderdale with PLENTY of time to catch our flight at 11:00. The cruise line wouldn't give us transportation because our flight was before noon but Jiffy Jeff didn't have any issues! Will use them again when we cruise in Florida!
