  1. For safety, you should not look at, or photograph the Sun without a proper filter. You need to block over 99% of the Suns light before safely looking at the Sun. Check out either Thousand Oaks or get some baader solar film to get the appropriate filter, or get 14 welder glass.

If you want to get an interesting picture without a filter, take a colander along. Hold it up, toward the Sun, and adjust the angle. Each hole in the colander acts as a pinhole camera, projecting an image of the Sun on the ground, so you will get hundreds of images of the partially eclipsed Sun.

If you want for info on safely observing an eclipse, just google nasa eclipse eye safety.

  2. I've only been to GSC, so I can't speak to the other destinations. GSC is NCLs private island. They have a snorkel route on the island, if your interested in that. Otherwise, if you just want to snorkel on your own, go down to the far end of the island, close to the lagoon. When I was there last, the tides were low, and the best way of snorkelling was floating over the coral and waiting for the fish to come out.

Wherever you choose to go, bring water shoes, as there are many rocks as you go in.

I'm doing the same itinerary as you, and I've booked the reef and wreck snorkel in Grand Cayman. The reviews looked pretty good.

  3. I haven't been on the Escape, but I have experienced NCLs studio cabins on the Breakaway. I absolutely loved the experience. Each night, we met at 6:00 and went over evening plans. If you prefer to dine solo, that is fine, but for nights you wanted to eat with others, there was always a group.

One really nice perk was that our solo coordinator was able to book us a table for on of the evening specialty show (it was a circ type show) for one of the evenings.

The cabin was very comfortable, with plenty of storage. The closets had sliding doors, the stool was also hidden storage, there were two under the bed baskets and cubby holes in the 'washroom' area. The only space that felt small in the room was the toilet, and let's face it, you probably aren't planning on spending much time there. ;)

The studio lounge was quite most of the time, and made for a handy meeting spot for any of the people you met. I also found that in spite of being a spring break trip, there was quite a variety of people travelling solo.

Here is a pic (sorry, it only let me put one in).
