  1. Fitchburg wifi family, thank you for your review. My wife and I are sailing the new "American Song" down the lower Mississippi in Oct/Nov 2108. We've taken several river cruises with Viking on the Danube, Rhine, Main, Yangtsee, and finally the Amazon on Viking Ocean's, Viking Sea this past December/January. We are hoping the American Cruise Line is on a par with Viking.

  2. Rivercove, has your trip come and gone? How did you like it? If you get this, I hope you'll come back and share your experience. We've booked for February of next year.

    Amyr & Rivercore,

My wife and I are booked on the Ganges Voyager 11 for the December 8, 2016 Cruise. We too are looking for any info about the cruise, ship, etc.

  3. I just made reservations for my wife and I on the 12/8/16 to 12/20/16 sailing. We have never traveled with Uniworld before. Our three previous river cruises were with Viking: Grand European, China & Tibet and the Christmas Markets with Empires of the Mediterranean on the Viking Star this September. River cruising is wonderful!

  4. irocks. Thank you so much for your updates on your trip. We leave on October 12th, spending a few days in Beijing before our tour on the 17th. We are going Uniworld but I imagine they are all pretty much the same. I do have a question for you. We are also going to Tibet and I am a little concerned about the altitude did you take the diamox (spelling) and how did you feel? I am debating on getting it or not. Some say lots of water and ibuprofen and a coke works as well. Also what was the average age of your tour and was there anything that some guest were not able to do because of their ability to get around? One last question what was the weather like.

Thank you again for your comments just reading about your adventure has started to make it real for me.

My wife and I just returned from Viking's Roof of the World tour. Two people in our group of 30 (my wife included) got altitude sickness and had to be treated by the hotel doctor. He came to our room. After a $260.00 credit card run (he came with his own credit card reader), IV Glucose drip with two medications plus Oxygen. My wife took the alternate med. to diamox, which clearly didn't work. After 4 hours of O2 and the meds. she was up and around. Extra water, fluids, etc. upon arrival did not prevent her altitude sickness. A diamox side effect experienced by a number of us took the form of internal tremors. I thought the buildings, sidewalks etc. were shaking and it was me. Not a problem, just weird. Despite the above, we would not have missed Tibet.

  5. We are also arriving 4 days early to Beijing for our trip this September. Those of you who have been on a China Tour with Viking, did you feel Viking spent plenty of time at Forbidden City or did you wish you would have spent a full day there on your own? I have read that you can rent audio guides at FC. We are planning on spending a day going to the Mutianya section of the Great Wall and stopping at the Olympic Park. The other days we would like to see: Jingshan Park, Beihai Park, Temple of Heaven and Lama Temple. Did I miss anything that you highly recommend? Ohh, we would also like to eat at Made in China and Black Sesame. We are on the Roof of the World tour so I believe we will still see Summer Palace with Viking. Thank you ALL for your contributions!

    irocks,

My wife and I will also be taking the China/Tibet tour in September. We'll be arriving in Beijing 9/11 with the tour starting 9/12. Are you taking same tour?

    George
