  1. Please! You're messing it up for everyone. The reason we sail NCL is for freestyle. You probably won't keep the reservation anyway.

So unless you have a group of 8 or more - just don't! We sailed POA with a group of 7, never made reservations at the main dining room and never had a wait of more than a couple minutes. There are plenty of larger tables.

    Thank you,

    Vic

Lol. I always make reservations. My right My free style. :D

  2. I have just come back off the Gem at christmas loved everything but the DJ bit light on the games maybe we had no problem getting in anywhere and I loved the spinnaker it was fit for all purposes late night party before bliss, bingo, quizzes, the sail-away party. I just don't understand why they don't have it on the larger ships.

On that cruise on the epic people seemed to walk around aimlessly all the time like robots everyplace was full it was a different atmosphere than the Gem.

How do you know people were walking aimlessly?? That’s such an odd statement. Maybe they were on their way somewhere?

  3. I just got a reply from NCL regarding the situation in Jamaica:

"Thanks for getting in touch with us. The safety and security of our guests and crew is our top priority. We have strict safety protocols in place and communicate and cooperate with local authorities regarding security matters at the destinations our ships visit. In the event of any developing safety concerns in the areas we visit, we have the flexibility to alter our itineraries as needed to avoid such areas. While this warning is specific to certain zones, we always communicate with our guests before going into port of call to use caution, be safe and be alert when going ashore, no matter the destination. There are currently no reports of concern in tourist areas, HOWEVER we will continue to monitor the situation. At this time, we are not planning to alter any existing itineraries."

    Thanks for sharing.

  4. There isn't a waiver in the world that shields from negligence.

If it is deemed NCL acted negligently, that will pierce the veil of waiver protections opening them to a gambit of lawsuits.

To everyone berating those on that cruise that are sharing their experiences, sit down, shut up and accept a simple inalienable truth, your opinion is not fact. Their experience isn't yours. EVEN IF YOU WERE ON THE SAME CRUISE.

If a passenger on that cruise feels a need to pursue this, its between them and NCL and if it goes far enough, the conclusion will be decided by a judge or jury. Not a forum opinion.

People have a right to their opinions. No one needs to shut up. If you don’t like what people have to say then why are you reading these boards.

  5. Hi!

I’m sailing on the breakaway in a few weeks and was wondering how much I should bring? My boyfriend and I have the ultimate beverage package, pre-paid the service fees, have the specialty dining package and booked our excursions already. I’m not sure how much money we should bring after all of that? Does anyone have any experience paying everything ahead of time? How much did you bring? I’m thinking only bringing my credit card and $300. Is that enough?? Plz help!!!! 🙂🙂🙂

Do you like to gamble ( need cash), play bingo, shop? You have a credit card for back up so that seems reasonable since you prepaid everything. You may want cash in ports for shopping?

  6. I imagine the cruise ships will not substitute a port in the next few weeks. You will likely have a sea day instead. Jamaica's police force has been reported as ineffective and can't be counted on to do much of anything if you run into problems. I've been there just once, was very unimpressed and would not seek to go there again.

That’s what I am worried about. I was in Falmouth about 2 years ago. Did an excursion and remember a long drive across the countryside to get there. Didn’t think much about it at the time and the people were friendly on the excursion. With not much of a police presence I worry about the bus getting into trouble with these gangs they are dealing with. They must be scattering away from the main affected area by now with all that is taking place.

  7. We weren't getting off the ship (next week) before the latest warnings. There have been ongoing warnings and I did some research when NCL added Falmouth after they removed (2) ports (St Lucia and Barbados) NOT affected by the hurricane.

I didn't like what I read regarding several issues, but I thought it was very telling that RCCL and Celebrity pulled some of their ships out in July. I thought it was interesting that RCCL provided the funding for the port. I have read a few times that they have a weak police force and are lax regarding enforcement of the laws, but I have no idea if it's fact.

I have been to Jamaica and would not book a cruise with it listed as a port. It is not only a safety concern. No place is 100% safe. I have no desire to browse the port area either; prices are high and I don't like being swarmed with beggars. IMO, they could do something about the begging/harassment.

I didn’t pick this itinerary either. We were supposed to be an eastern cruise but it was changed after the hurricanes. I’ve been to Jamaica twice. Once on a cruise stop and once at an all inclusive. I never had any issues and the people were very friendly. Yes some of them beg for tips but that happens in many carribean countries. I will not get off the ship with all this happening.

  8. Thanks to all who posted links. What is the thinking of people who will have Jamaica as a port stop within the next few weeks? Are people deciding to stay on the ship or restrict their movements to just the port area? Feel sorry for the law abiding citizens who are caught up in all of this.

We will be cruising in 3 weeks. Scary. I am cancelling our river tubing excursion.

  9. You can find the scores for all cruise ship inspections on the CDC website: https://wwwn.cdc.gov/InspectionQueryTool/InspectionSearch.aspx

Just from a very quick review of the "big" cruise lines (RCCL, NCL, Princess, etc.) I didn't see any other failures other than Carnival's 3 failures, although Freedom of the Seas only passed by one point and MSC had one that barely passed as well.

Hmm. I'll stick with NCL. No carnival for me.

  10. There is no need to get mad at accounting errors. I would only give NCL maximum two calls and one week to sort it out. After that, I would just file a credit card dispute and let NCL proves to credit card company that the canceled excursion was properly refunded.

This is good advice. Don’t stress yourself, let them duke it out.

  11. Jack, on my last sailing with RC this March they had in place an auto tipping feature. It is different in at least two important ways.

    1. It goes to the crew, not to an incentive plan, not to the corporate office, and not to welfare programs as the NCL DSC fee does.

    2. You can remove or adjust it at any time during the cruise.

People saying "Everybody has a Daily Service Charge!" must not cruise the other lines. My last sailing on Princess, a further while back was, as I recollect, about the same.

Sorry but they all seem to be the same thing. You lost me.
