  1. I saw the GMA story this morning where Lutof-Petlo was interviewed. I read it to say that people who are fully vaccinated who want to sail in that environment should have options. To me that simply means sailings from non-Florida ports. I’m less sanguine about them holding fast against DeSantis’ nonsense than before. In fact, I believe eventually they cave. I hope I’m wrong but her comments were clearly word-smithed  beforehand.

We've taken two TAs on the Silhouette (our very favorite ship), most recently her westbound TA late last fall that brought her back to the U.S. for the winter.  I think you will have a wonderful time!

"Silly" and "Edge" are our two favorites. Looking forward to the Westbound TA in October.

Uh oh!  Looks like Millie has her first scuff in that second to last photo.  Thanks so much for a truly wonderful blog and your photos are just terrific.  We are counting down the days until we board on 27 April in Tokyo for the transpacific crossing to Vancouver!

It looks like they are doing some work in the area of the sweet 16 cabins on the starboard side in that picture above. Does anyone know if they are going to do something to those balconies. I have a sweet 16 booked on Summit in December.

I was chatting with my travel agent and asked him if he had any information regarding the Sweet Sixteens. He had just spoken with his Celebrity rep and was assured that the balconies will remain in their current configuration. They are my go-to verandah cabins on the Millennium class for sure.

Wonder of it real teak or the rubberized compound currently on the ships.

Jim_Ian, likely a faux teak. SOLAS rules regarding the use of combustable materials are pretty strict in limiting the use of real wood on passenger vessels.  Thanks so much for all the before and after photos of Millie during her cosmetic surgery.

They have said the "M" class will be going back to the all blue hull.  If it is the old dark blue or the lighter Edge blue I guess we will know in a few short weeks.

If you look under the "Ships" tab on the Celebrity website and click on the Millennium, there is a photoshop of the ship with the new livery.

  7. Hi Jim,

I have been following "Millie" on Marine Traffic this morning and noted that she had altered course. Juneau does seem to be getting a battering if the harbor webcam is any indication. "Silver Shadow" is apparently redirecting to Skagway and "Coral Princess" to Ketchikan. "Millie" is still showing Juneau as her destination. Fingers crossed that you will be able to get in eventually.

  8. I just finished watching the first half of the show where they covered the updated Millennium. Of course, the artist renditions always look spectacular, but hard to imagine those Oceanview staterooms with a porthole or large window becoming "floor-to-ceiling" windows. Nevertheless, I am open to the possibilities of sailing on this ship later in 2019. Now I have something to ponder as I research my next booking.

This topic came up as I was booking the September Transpacific. I asked my travel agent about the new cabins and how they might accomplish the structural changes to the cabins. He said that because the cabins, specifically the verandas, are basically prefabricated shipping containers which are lifted and set into the hull, many of the existing cabins would be removed and the new "Edgified" units installed in their place. He was not sure about the Oceanview cabins but suspected they would be renovated in place.

  9. Cruise lines have been offering the ceremonial services to same sex couples for some time, however because of the ship's registry in Malta the marriage ceremonies had no legal standing. Malta's parliament recently acted to legalize the ceremonies which now extend to ship's masters serving as officiants. Celebrity has always been wonderful to their LGBT guests although the pricing for a ceremony package is quite high for both same and opposite sex couples at around $2000 minimum. A friend of mine, ironically, just inquired last month and was good to go until they got the price quote.

Never realized that a cruise line wouldn't do this. Nice to see it.

    Keith

  10. Ken...thanks for a great review. Silhouette is my favorite Solstice Class ship in the fleet. She just has a great soul. A group of us were on the Transatlantic in November and we are booked again for November this year. You have a wonderful attitude when it comes to those who try to be mean. Happy sailing! Mike
