  1. Major rule is stay in open spaces and use the voice mail on the phones to leave notes.

I tried a few times on Gem and Jewel and could find my son in under 15 min anytime I wanted, most often in under 10 and he was trying not to be found. There are only so many public places you can be... other rooms are the real issue.

This is all part of growing up and learning to survive in the world, we were brought up in the world of be home before dark or for dinner and we all made it. I think we parent over think and over worry about this. Will you tuck them in at college?

    Son now 17 DD 22.

    PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. -

A man and woman were injured Tuesday on a cruise ship docked at Port Canaveral, officials said.

A trauma alert was issued for a man who apparently suffered a neck injury aboard the Norwegian Breakaway, and a woman in her 70s suffered some type of fracture, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue.

The circumstances surrounding the injuries has not been released.

The Breakaway has a home port in Manhattan and makes stops in Brevard County.

  3. Yes to all that. Books, I pads lockers and showers. The best times are around dinner and early in the day, far less people. We used to go to later dinner and enjoy the spa mostly to ourself. The robes are nice.

From about 11-4 on sea days very packed and you may or may not get a terminal bed. Our 9 day was $135 in December and on those cold days well worth it.

  4. As a foodie I have never found the food on NCL to be at level I would rave about. I enjoyed many dishes but you people need to go to better class of restaurants than olive garden before you call a NCL trip a foodie trip. Even talking about MDR in any of those terms is like saying the only difference in Peter Luger's and Poderosa is the price and you get more at Ponderosa.

Try a few chefs tables at some top restaurants then take a cruise... Fun yes, a good value yes, foodie trip nope. I have had some friends do chefs cruises and they tell me it met their expectations. But NCL??? you make me laugh.

  5. ON the breakaway the Garden Cafe is at back (like most ncl ships) and outside is open for smoking. On most ships the open area at the stern decks are smoking ok. Not sure what the breakaway will have but from past ships that is how NCl does it. If you check past posts about aft balcony that is common issue (true on all balcony's but seems greater back there)

Not a big issue to some but others do not want to deal with smoke and some like me do not get balcony cabins for that reason.

  6. Some love them the only thing I worry about and been told is smokers. The smoking area of the ship is the back, , many smokers book the back balcony. The smoke can swirl as it is the back and the smoke can to do that on any ship.

If your very sensitive about smoke you want to figure this in your choice.

  7. I would bet on non NCL days they are renting it out. Like a hotel unused rooms days you never recover if left unused. As far as I know GSC has never had more than one ship per day so no it will not be crowded.

That said I more worried about my trip on the breakaway with more people, same # of tenders and same beach space, same bbq line and same # of chairs... I may well book a cabana for that one.

  9. I was using your quote to add to mine, it did look I like I said you wrong. I should have been more clear in that it was anyone who said as a parent cannot in USA give your own kid a drink.

Add to that anyone can be arrested for child abuse if you provide them with booze and will be if you giving your 12 yo shots of JD. The gray area is when does a sip a wine for a ceremony (family dinner or even church) morph into getting your kid drunk.

  10. Your original statement - that it's illegal to supply minors with alcohol - is probably even less true in Europe than the U.S. I stand by my statement that your generality is simply untrue. The law varies by country and it is often permissible for parents to supply alcohol to their minor children.

In most of the USA a PARENT can allow their kids to have a drink they hand them.

We have at times like new years allowed our kids a toast and a taste of wine with our family meals. Our 16 yo has a Mike's when helping to dig a ditch with our Judge friend and even toasted his win.

On NCL they clip the corner of his card, this is the key NCL uses to show they are underage on the ship.

That said I know after the last cruise we found out he met some friends who were 18 and could get drinks, he said he had a beer they bought him. I was happy he told us but also told he was not to accept drinks from anyone again.

Look I was not born yesterday, underage happens and will happen. My job as a parent is to prevent it and control it. I would hope the staff would help me with this and from what I have seen they do.

  11. The sausage NCL serves in the morning. It is cheap knock off of brown and serve only not as good.

Also the hot dog my son order at the blue lagoon, was so over done he who had never met a hotdog he could not eat refused. As a side note in the 7 days on the ship not one hamburg or hotdog bun was not stale.
