Your only option under $250 total for a hotel room at the Ramada, is parking, and round trip port transportation in a shuttle bus is through trinityreservations.com at $238 tax included for 2 double beds.  If you need a crib, email trinity to make sure you have what you need.  They are very nice - a reputable faith based business.  I have used this package and was very happy with it.  Unlike many EWR properties, the Ramada is a full service hotel with cafe and restaurant.

Newark is a highly industrialized urban area.  From any of the hotels except for the ones on International Blvd in Elizabeth, there’s really no place to walk to (no stores and restaurants)from the hotel other than another hotel.  The Ramada is next to the Doubletree, so that could be a destination to get the kids out.  These two properties are rather large and safe to walk around in the daytime - they are in an isolated area north of the airport with very limited pedestrian access.  Almost all the activity in that area would be hotel related - folks are coming and going from these hotels 7x24 and there are security personnel controlling the gated vehicle access to the property.

Thanks for the response and helpful info!

Are there any other hotels that provide shuttle bus service to the port outside of those properties contracted through Trinity?  For example, it might be cheaper (and nicer) for me to book a room using points at a Marriott property and pay separately for their parking/shuttle services.  If no other properties have shuttle busses, is my only option then to call a cab/uber to get us to the cruise port, in which case I would then have to figure out car seat logistics?

As for heading out with the kids, I am okay to drive out, doesn't have to be walking distance. Maybe we can just hang out at a mall for a while, and go ham at some of the fun stores we don't have in Canada (target, trader Joe's :D).  We'll probably also pick up diapers in the US too.  So much cheaper 🙂

  2. Hi there, we are driving in on Nov 22 for our Nov 23 cruise on the Anthem of the Seas.  Any recommendations on hotel, given the considerations below?

    • 4 people: 2 adults, 1 toddler (4yrs), 1 infant (8mths)
    • Parking included, with free shuttle to/from cruise port, in a vehicle that doesn't require kids to be in carseats (we may end up bringing them anyways for the shore excursions, but seeing if we can get away without lugging them around with us)
    • Safe area, as I may be taking the two kids out on my own without hubby during the day on the 22nd
    • Under $250/night (including the parking/shuttles, etc.)
    • Bonus: Marriott/SPG properties preferred, but not necessary

Am I asking too much?  So much more to think about when travelling with young kids! 😐  Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can provide!!
