It would probably be best to hire a driver. As it relates to cost...no idea. You'd have to work that out with the driver.

You're most welcomed.
Lemmie know if you have any further questions, I'd be more than happy to assist.
Hope you have an amazing time here!!

October is fine, its before the tourist season begins. Not a lot of overnight tourists so shouldnt be too bad... will probably mostly be cruises.
-
Fear not... mobay has quite a few golf course and resorts not too far away from the terminal as well (approx 20 mins drive). Off the top of my head you can check out Half moon hotel, Hilton rose hall hotel, wyndham rose hall hotel.... there are quite a few golf courses and beaches in rose hall.

I don't know the cab fare from Montego Bay, but I strongly suggest you bring some snacks and water bottles. It was so crowded the day we were there last January that we could not get service at either the bar or restaurant in the afternoon. I'm pretty sure they would not notice anything in a tote bag. I maybe wouldn't bring in a cooler with wheels.
You don't have to rent anything. I'm sure sand toys etc., are fine. I don't recall a discount for my grandson.
The crowd was mostly because of the time of year you went. Dec-Jan is always very crowded in Mobay, besides cruises, its the peak of the winter tourist season so the beaches.....especially doc cave is always packed that time of year.

Welll, marguritaville is a sports bar/beach bar after all soooo I dont think it would be suitable for elementary kids at all lol. Could try a cat to dunns river falls if its available...that would be a lot more suitable for kids.
-
As stated by poster above... ohci is about 1hr away.... and its all highway road, not much traffic so timing wont be an issue at all...no need to worry.....if you're still stuck on your 30 mins away rule... montego bay is about 30ish mins away. You can do stuff there as well.

I prefer scotches much more than pork pit....well thats if you're looking for authentic jamaican food. Its about a further 10-15 mins drive away from pork pit...but to me its more than worth the extra time. Much better quality food....IMO.
Not too far from the terminal you can also check out Jerkies... thats not too bad as well. Hope you enjoy your stay here.....even if you will be spending most of it on the ship lol :P

Just make sure you get out of MoBay and do something ... do anything other than stay in MoBay. ;)
LuLu
Actually staying in mobay is probably your best bet at finding something to do, unless you want to waste like 3hrs of driving time by going to negril or ocho rios. There are tons of touristy things to do in mobay.

Sadly I have to say that on a cruise excursion this probably wont be feasible. The majority of the coffee plantations in Jamaica are on the opposite end of the island (approx 3-4hrs drive from falmouth) by the blue mountain hills.
You'll find very few coffee growers on the north coast of the island (where cruise ships dock). Sorries.

That was a very good thing. I'm also positive that is why the "kids" got delayed getting back onto the ship. They really stereotype in Jamaica. Too bad they don't police their own citizens.
Hey heyyy, whats that supposed to mean??

How far from the Falmouth port is this museum?
Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Erm, about 20 -30 mins drive. Not far at all.
-
Did it with Island Marketing as well and it was a awesome excursion. As previous stated by everyone, its a LONGGGG day lol. The tour personnel are very aware of the time and makes sure to get you back in time. I didnt feel rushed at all.
I'd recommend it to anyone.

Ok, if you're looking for an AI then the posters above got you all covered lol. If youre not and you're just looking for some nearby beaches, then there are two, both walking distance. Turtle beach is to the left when you exit the terminal and marguritaville + beach is at the top of the road and on the right.
Havent been to turtle beach in ages but its still a nice beach for relaxing and enjoying day with decent facilities. Marguritaville is nice, not as big a beach as turtle, but its a nice atmosphere and good facilities + food and drinks.
If you'd want a bit further away beach, reggae beach is pretty nice, its about erm 20-30 mins drive away tho.
anything else lemmie know and I'll gladly assist.

hey guys, not too sure if this was discontinued or something, but I know there used to be a shuttle bus that you could get a pass for at the terminal that you can hop on and off all day and it takes you around the town to various points. Is this no longer operational?

Hi!
Anyone take the tour at the Rose Hall Great House Plantation that was built in 1770 where Annee Palmer “The White Witch of Rose Hall” lived?
I've seen this place on tv for over 20 years and always wanted to visit the estate. We will be in port at Falmouth in January and considering getting a driver for the day to take us here and multiple places.
How much is the admission? Is it $16 or $20 a piece and do you have to make reservations in advance for a tour before you arrive at port?
https://rosehall.com/tours/rose-hall-great-house-day-tour/
This was the only site that I found.
Ive done this tour, its pretty cool if you're into history and that sorta stuff. You dont have to book before, you can just turn up and go. The grounds is really really gorgeous as well.
Lemmie know if there's anything else you'd like assistance with.

We booked a private tour (10 of us) and the tour operator told us we would be taken to Seawind beach. Then a couple days later he emailed us and said it is an AI and so instead he will take us to Doctors Cave beach. I have since found out that Carnival uses Seawind for an all inclusive shore excursion and on the days when Carnival ships are there they turn it into an AI for the cruise ship passengers. We will be on RC.
Anyway we don't care. Doctors cave beach will be fine with us.
Thanks for the info. We go next week.
Ohhh ok, I gotcha, I go there all the time when Im in mobay, I guess just ive never been there when a carnival ship is in town lol.
Doctors cave is great too, so you'll be fine, hope you enjoy your visit!! :). Make sure you try a patty and some jerked chicken :).
Enjoy.
Now you've gone and make me wanna go back on a cruise like now! lol. Cruseds!
-
Thanks but I have since found out that it is only an all-inclusive (anyway that's what I was told) so instead we are going to Dr Cave beach instead. there are 10 of us and the AI price is too high. We just want a few hours at a nice beach. Thanks
Ok, not sure if you're talking about the same thing here....orr they offer different packages for tourists. However, its a beach resturant/bar beside an all inclusive resort. Ive been there just for drinks/lunch/party before and not an all inclusive option.
who informed you of this?
-
Great to know -- thanks. Also, I think a couple in my group don't like spicy food. Is the jerk sauce is on the side so they can skip that part?
Jerk by nature is spicy, its not too spicy tho, the sauce they have that you can choose to take tho is ....well its more like pepper lol, DO NOT USE lol, its REALLYYYY peppery, so dont even bother trying it if you dont like spicyness lol.
Maybe if you ask nicely they'll give you a piece to try before you buy to see if you like/dont like the flavour.
-
There's also a big place where you can get nice freshly made ones with probably a lot more variety.
Its called Juci Patties, its like 5 mins walk from the pier. Can ask anyone there, for directions, tho its really easy to find, just turn left after you walk out of the pier.

Realize this thread is older but seemed to have the most feedback about Scotchies. For those who've been, is it mainly a tourist place? Someone on tripadvisor mentioned that you don't see locals eating there? Others also mentioned the meat is dry and wasn't marinated very long?
Has anyone been to a beachfront lobster shack? That also sounds great :)
Its not really a touristy place at all. A LOT of locals go there, infact its the most popular spot for jerked foods I'd say.
-
Has anyone been to this place? I'm trying to find any info about it.
I have and I absolutely LOVE IT!. Awesome scenery, nice atmosphere, love love love it there. Everytime I go to Mobay I visit there and relax a bit while having a nice drink at the beach.
I'd recommend it to anyone I know.

Hey, its available for one day entry as well, provided there are no functions for that day.
Its about 3km away from the port.... right beside Secrets Resort.
