  1. Sorry, but I just have to post...this thread was in between one called simply "alcohol" asking about bringing it on board, and the other was titled "hair dryers" and I assume about bringing your own, etc.

So I read this thread, fully expecting it to be about whether or not you were allowed to bring your own nuts aboard...and was waiting for the usual back and forth about the value versus risk arguments, and then I stopped and said it again, and realized how THAT sounded, and blushed....:o

Glad someone found a link to what you were looking for, and glad you're hot on the trail...my current search is for Banana Chutney, and my mother failed me on her most recent trip to Scotland!:)

Cheers, and here's to Santorini...one of the most beautiful places on earth..

    Andrew

  2. I don't know if they are exactly the same, but we have gotten similar nuts at Trader Joes. And they are so good.

I bought sesame coated Cashews from TJ's - they are NOT the same.

I may have a lead though - When we were in Santorini I bought some jewelry for my wife - the Store was super helpful and on a wild idea - I emailed the salesman and asked him - waiting for a reply - if he does I'll let you all know

  3. We bought Sesame covered Pistachios on Santorini. Only regret...we didn't buy more! Mmmmmm Also saw them growing on trees across the street from the store (but without Sesame seeds :))

One vendor was selling what appeared to be mixed dry roasted nuts with honey sesame and the ones we bought were just peanuts. NOT sticky. I believe we bough them in OIA but I saw them in Santorini as well. Guess I'll justhave to go back to Santorini and buy more

  4. Here is a weird question - and I wonder if anyone who has been to Santorini or is of Greek Herritage can answer it.

When we were in Santorini in August, we purchased a bag of what I believe is

Sesame Seed over a honey over dried peanuts. I wish we had purchased several bags because they were devoured quickly and I can't find anything even on Google about them. The bag was in Greek so I did not even find an address or web site to try to order them.

Anyone know if a Greek Grocery store in The US that stocks these or knows the name???

    Thanx in advance

  5. http://www.abb.com

This will tell you a bit about ABB; coincidentally, the front page notes orders for 19 ships.

ABB's "azipods" have also had repair problems however they seem to have largely worked through the worst of it as a developing technology. Rolls-Royce's "mermaid" system seems to have been the lesser of the two competing products as they emerged around the year 2000.

ABB is the (acronym now) formal name of ASEA Brown Boverie a Swiss-Swedish concern that specializes heavily in power transmission systems. ASEA was a Swedish concern that merged with Brown Boverie. They are a major player (possibily the biggest) in hydro-electric power transmission as well as locomotives and are headquartered in Zurich.

Funny but RCCL and others also use PODS - and I have never heard of a Royal Caribbean Ship with a pod failure.

Surprising that the NCL which was built by Meyerwerft has problems

ABB inherently is or should be reliable - me thinks that people are making too much of a one time event

  6. I am a coffeeholic - Aside from purchasing the deal from Cafe Britt on the Brilliance ( 20 bags of Costa Rican Tarrazu and Tres Rios) about 16# for $99 bucks including free shipping and a coffee grinder, we were told that the coffee on the pier "Might not be fresh" BALONEY!

There were several vendors hawking coffee and one woman said. Senior -

Onebag for $5, 2 for $7.50 $3 for 10 and I'll throw in a 4th if you buy 3 - Ok so for $10 dollars I get 4 17oz bags of coffee ( ground) - I was surprised the customs guys didnt arrest me. To make a long story short - when we got home I opened one of the bags as we were out of coffee and had a pot of some of the best coffee we had with the exception of the Jamaica Blue we bought in Ocho Rios - at a cost of $2.50 yet.

Almost out of coffee so I may just have to go back to Costa Rica.

My wife has reflux and coffee bothers her - not this stuff - she can drink it without sugar and sometimes without cream.

Rosewood trays are also a super bargain - Wish I bought more - Got a real beaut for $15.00

Also bought a great CD from one of the Marimba players on the pier for $8.00
