In January of 2015, my mom and I had a 10 RT trip cruise out of Singapore planned. We were in a balcony and booked it for pretty cheap.

The day before flying out, we received the following offer- which we refer to as the Mac-daddy of all move-overs:

We give up our balcony cabin for 10 days.

    We get:

one 15 day cruise anywhere in the world, in a full suite. AND

one 10 day cruise anywhere in the US, Mex, Carib, or Canada in a full suite

100% of the cruise fare in refundable OBC (we spent almost nothing and received a check about 6 weeks after we got home).

An extra $500 in OBC as a thank you.

    Change airplane fees.

and an extra dinner in a specialty restaurant.

If my memory serves me, the original cruise cost us about $2500 combined.

We took a 10 Caribbean on the Royal in a Penthouse Suite- that would have been about $8K.

We took a British Isles cruise for 12 days- that would have been about $14K.

We considered it a deal of a lifetime.

I also just got a move-over this past summer on a Baltic’s cruise. I was traveling alone in an inside. My friend was traveling alone in a balcony. We linked our reservation for dining purposes. We each received move-overs that were get your cruise fare back on refundable OBC and take the same cruise in the same cabin type later. We both turned them down.

Then we received an offer to share a full suite on the same cruise and get about half of our fare back in refundable OBC. We took that offer.

Urban legend has it, if you take a move-over offer- you are more likely to get another. If you take an upsell, you are more likely to get another. Willingness factors into the selection algorithm. So I have heard...

I have gotten an upsell offer on over 75% of every cruise I have been on. I have accepted most- mostly because they are mini’s to full suites.

    YMMV

yea, I would totally take that offer in a heartbeat...

Just received an offer for our Mexico cruise next week. (didnt take it)

Full refund in the form of refundable OBC for downgrading from Balcony to an obstructed Oceanview.

I just checked Celebrity's website, and there are specific lists of beers covered by the classic and premium packages.  I am sailing out of Dublin this year, and I know in the past, there were problems when the ships sailed from Southhampton.  Since tipping is not customary in England (and Ireland), Celebrity raised the prices of all the drinks instead of adding 18% gratuities.  This caused many drinks that were below the maximum to go above the maximum, which upset many people.

When sailing out of the foreign ports with the different pricing structure the max per drink, for the package, was also adjusted accordingly.

We have the Classic package on our upcoming Edge cruise (first time with anything other than a soft drink pkg) and the limit is $9 and was wondering how it would work if my wife ordered one of those $15 frozen concoctions. So they would just charge the difference ($15 - $9 = $6)? She's not a big alcohol drinker so it's not too much of a concern and I am a beer drinker with an occasional shot of bourbon so it's all good for me.

Paying the difference use to be only for the Premium package, Classic would have to pay the full price.

The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on Celebrity Cruises ships sailing from North America is 21. The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on Celebrity Cruises ships sailing from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand is 18.

Interesting quandary, since Hawaii is neither part of North America, nor is it part of Oceania (Australia/New Zealand)

  5. Ive never seen a bartender on X use a jigger, but a properly trained bartender shouldn't need one. Pros count seconds to measure the pour.

Concierge doesnt get you much besides canapés in the afternoon and extra club points per night. If Aqua is prices competitively book that instead, at least you get Blu.

I would recommend upgrading to Premium beverage if your husband is a scotch drinker, Classic will get you a blend like Johnnie Red label or Dewars, Premium will add single malts like Glenfiddich, Chivas, Laphroaig....

So, does anyone know when her next vacation is? We will be on Equinox July6 and 13. Hoping for a repeat cruise with Captain Kate.

She takes over the helm of the Edge after March '19

  7. On the Solstice class the kids are allowed and we still got dirty looks from passengers who think the indoor pool is adult's only. I made sure that we weren't noisy but people need to know that there is not a therapy pool on Solstice class- it's just a pool and everyone gets to use it.

    WRONG!

The outdoor pool is for everyone. The Solarium is reserved for Adults (I believe 16 and up). On Alaska cruises they do make an exception to this and allow children to use the Solarium for a period (normally an hour) in the morning and the afternoon.

  8. Just got back from the same sailing. The pool drinks while sweet and tasty and just that, pool drinks. I don't expect to get wasted off of Piña Coladas and the such.

Didn't have any issues with my Stoli Elit martinis or Tonics.

  9. No priority tickets and we were first tender off the boat. Just get up early and head to the tender line for tickets. Was super easy.

Cable car going up wasn't really an issue. Coming back down on the other hand it can be 1+ hours long. So either come back down early or have someone wait in line while the rest of the group shops.

  10. In my opinion you are jumping to conclusions on what may have happened and are alittle prudish.

People are so jumpy with sexual tension and political correctness these days. Just let the officer do his job and move on.

  11. I certainly don't begrudge Princess their rules and I'm not one to shlep wine onboard at embarkation anyway (only did so in port in Europe because, you know, it was Europe!). That said, you gotta believe that the labour costs in all that effort they went to had to outweigh the potential revenue from a bottle of wine you would have purchased onboard.

What labor cost?? They are already paying the crew if they have a task or if they sit by idle.

  12. Depends on the ship and the captain....

However when I sailed the Med last year,

ship time = local port time

But it's not a hard and fast rule, so always check what ship time is as you are about to cross the gangway
