Been reading all comments this morning as we head into dock.  Gotta remember there are over 3,000 passengers and there are going to be some minor flaws. A little nitpicking by some- this was an amazing cruise IMO. THE STAFF WAS FLAWLESS- minus yesterday the weather was incredible, food was great (best meal was at Sapattini’s) the cruise director was great (I don’t know how he does it). All the entertainment was great including the comedians, magician and singers.  Favorite show was Jeffrey the Elton John guy who we ended up hanging out with on the pool deck for the New Years celebration.    Got to do a ‘bridge tour’ yesterday and the captain and his crew were friendly and in great spirits despite the angry sea.  Been on 7 princess cruises and never seen a Captain as visible as Captain Smith.  Cruise gets a 10/10.   Happy New Year!!   Oh, Cabo overnight was the best!!  Went to ‘the office’ for dinner- highly recommend but make reservations!!!  Adios Amigos

  2. When we were there this summer, they had tour buses right at the ship's dock that offered R/T transport. It was like 20 Euros/person I think, definitely cheaper than any excursion price. The bus dropped us off at the edge of town, by the train station parking lot and we just walked right into town. I actually bought one of those pocket size tour books from our local half-price bookstore and it was perfect. It gave us many things and ideas to see, plus I looked before we went. We saw a ton of things. Then when we were done, we walked back to the station where they had buses waiting, I think they left like every 30 minutes. We spent probably 8-10 hours there. And we got there pretty much when the city was just walking up, so it was still pretty quiet, it was one of my favorite stops!

    Do they take US dollars?

  3. Yep! Another vote for heading over to Bruges. Was one of our favorite cities we've been to. Lot's to see, easy to walk around, things to eat (Belgian waffles!!) and just a nice, historical city. When we docked, there were shuttle buses parked right next to the ship, it was like 20 Euros/person for a R/T ticket to Bruges.

What cruise line were you on? We are thinking of booking a transatlantic cruise on the Crown Princess next year from South Hampton to FLL, which includes Bruges

  4. Who was your captain on your cruise? We will be on the Island beginning Dec 6th, we received an email from Princess that the captain for our cruise would be Michele Tuva. Last year we were on the Star Princess From Vancouver to Los Angeles, he was our captain. He was the friendliest, most outgoing captain we have ever sailed with. He was all over the ship, greeting passengers. When he made announcements over the PA he would begin you hoo, and after the announcement he would say bye bye.

  5. Have not been to the MDR the entire time. Food is too good in the HC and they have several specialty nights (Mongolian BBQ, German Night, Stir Fry, Mexican Buffet, etc.) that are just too tempting to pass up.

No IC. Not sure if she will get one in the December dry dock either. The Patisserie still has the full bar and coffee bar, just a limited selection of pastries in the morning, no lunch foods or soups and no dinner selections.

Is there a charge for the specialty nights? I know that there is a charge for the Crab Shack or whatever they call it. We will be on the Island on Dec 6th, hopefully it will have the new beds etc.

    Enjoying your posts.

  6. Gixer,

Thank you so much for all the good information - really appreciate it. We now know there are taxis available at dock area. We want to take a ride along the road to look at the coastline and coves.

Certainly hope next February's weather is as great as this years. We were totally surprised at how we enjoyed Pt. Stanley in 2003 when we were on the Royal Princess.

  7. I would be happy to try and answer them for you as I live in Stanley. I actually registered to cruise critic to find info about Disney cruises as we are taking the children on a trip in January, and just had a look in this forum out of curiosity!

Hope I can be of some help to those of you planning a future trip :)

    Hi,

We are interested in hiring a taxi to take us around the island and stop at just a few places. Is there taxis service in the port area and how long would it take to go around the island?

We will be on the Star Princess and it will be in Pt. Stanley on Feb. 22. Can US dollars be used to pay or will we need to exchange money to pay for the taxi.

Really appreciate any information you can give.

    Sherry
