  1. How long was the ferry ride to st johns.

and how long is the taxi from st johns ferry dock to trunk bay?

The ferry ride from Red Hook St. Thomas to St. John is about 20 minutes, it departs at specific times..here is the website with the schedule and info:

    http://www.**********/travel/virgin-islands-ferry-schedules/

The taxi from St. John ferry dock (in Cruz bay) to Trunk Bay was no more than 30 minutes or so, they dropped off others at other beaches along the way and stopped st a couple of scenic points.

Also the taxi ride from the cruise port in St. Thomas to the Red Hook ferry was about 30-45 min.

We didn’t feel rushed or pressured for time at all. I believe our ship all aboard time was 5:30pm for departure at 6pm, we made sure to be back to the St. John ferry dock in time to catch the 3:30 pm ferry back to St.Thomas, others on this page had warned of traffic delays and things of that nature and 3:30 seemed like the safest bet! We had time to spare once we got back to St. Thomas and had our taxi driver drop us off in downtown Charlotte Amalie to do some shopping on the way back to the ship and then caught another taxi from there back to the ship!

  2. We will dock in St Thomas for 9 hours in February. We have never been to either or any USVI. Have always wanted to go to St John. Advice on what we should do for the day, We love laying on the beach, quirky little beach bars but think we should see a little of the islands too. Any advice on how to spend the day, suggestions. How does one differ from the other? Should we focus on 1 or try to see both? Not really fan of group guided tours

Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated

    TIA

We had the same amount of time this past February while on Harmony of the seas. We wanted to try and see both islands but there isn’t really enough time so we decided on St. John. We got off the ship right after we docked and took a taxi to the Red Hook ferry. We got to St. John and There are open air safari taxis right at the end of the dock, they will drop you off wherever, we went to Trunk Bay, hung out there for a couple hours and then took a taxi back to Cruz Bay, had lunch and shopped! It was an awesome relaxing day. :)

  3. I just called. I have this excursion booked for the February cruise. I called twice in order to talk to two different customer service reps. Both indicated this now runs only four hours total with only 2 hours on St. John. I'm now reconsidering the Red Hook ferry. Two hours on St. John is nowhere near long enough!

I called yesterday as well and in 2/13, when we will be in St.Thomas, the excursion is scheduled 11am-3pm...we are in port 8am-6pm..I am bummed and debating just doing St. Thomas on our own for the day instead 😕

  4. Has anyone taken the "On Your Own" tour through RCCL since they did the last round of cancellations/changed the tour to "St. John On Your Own - STY4"?

    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/shoreExcursions/product/detail/view.do?sourcePage=shorexByPort&ProductCode=STY4

Currently booked for next month, but the excursion is only scheduled for 4 hours, from 8:30a-12:30p and the ship is in St. Thomas until 6pm.

Seems to be a bit short on time on St. John given the duration of the time in port and different than the duration michelle028 previous posted.

I am curious about this as well! It has a disclaimer that the hours could be adjusted based on the time in port..going mid-February!

  5. I did the "St John on your own" a few weeks ago but it was from Celebrity. I will use the ferry next time.

It is not as complicated as it sounds, even with 2 kids. You didn't mention their ages but if they are too young to handle their own bags or are in a stroller you probably don't want to go to St John anyway.

Catch a cab to Red Hook - very simple, you will not be alone. Catch the next ferry, it will drop you off where the ships excursion would have. Catch a cab to Trunk Bay. They are all right there ready to go.

Just reverse on the way back and catch an early enough ferry to get you back. The 3 pm ferry seems to be popular. When you get to St Thomas there will be cabs waiting to take you back to the pier.

You should be fine and will not be alone as many others will be doing the same thing.

Any idea on how much the cab rides were? Just want to make sure to bring enough cash!

  6. Dollar Bus to Red Hook. Ferry from Red Hook to St John. Taxi to Trunk Bay.

Trunk Bay is a little slice of heaven. Best beach I've ever been to (granted I have not been to that many).

Wanting to do this the second week of Feb. while on RCCL Harmony..debating doing it on our own or the cruise lines excursion (the cruise excursion doesn't have any time frames)....Are there taxi's at trunk bay to return back?

  7. We are from Sterling Height MI. Where do you live in Michigan? I like when we have more time in port. We are only in San Juan from 7-2 on Freedom. What ship were you on that was there until 9 PM? Thanks

Also from Sterling Heights, mi! Will be in San Juan on 2/14/2018, never been and trying to get ideas of what to do!

  8. Has anyone ever had experience with Ismael as a driver? We just booked and I'm sure he will be great! Is there anywhere specifically we should make sure to stop that is a can't miss place? And lastly, does anyone know about how long it takes to get from the pier to the east side of the island or to circle the entire island? This is what we're thinking for our tour...we will be docked from 7am-5pm...we have a driver picking us up at the pier at 10:30 and then are going to chakanaab park to pick up 2 more people with our group at 11am...we would like to keep the tour around 3 hours maybe 4 at the most, and having them drop us off at paradise beach at the end, around 2pm, spending some time there and then taking a taxi back to the pier...does this sound do-able? Any tips? This is our first time hiring a driver and are unsure what we want to see.
