  1. Just noticed that it appears that the Veendam hasn't made it into Boston yet. The harbor webcam doesn't want to load for me but the Marine Traffic website still shows them heading into Boston as of 630PM local time.

She was to be in at 10AM this morning and leave at 8PM. But if she hasn't made it yet that is a little concerning as we sail on her next month.

Anyone have any info on this. I hope it is just an error.

    Thanks

  2. It's always hard to predict when they will change the exchange rate. We were warned last fall from a HAL rep that they were changing from 1.20 to 1.30 soon after that time. With how poorly the CDN dollar is at this time I don't see them changing it. Once we rebound I'm sure they will adjust it again to make it fair for us.

If you check HAL'S website from Canada you will see CDN prices. You can check the US pricing on websites and do a conversion to see how close they are in CDN funds. I use "cruise fish" (which is all one word to see the US pricing).

    Hope this helps!

  3. My wife and I are in our late 30's and early 40's and have only ever cruised on HAL. We have done from 7 day to 11 day cruises and are going on our 4th this fall. We enjoy HAL so much that we would never even consider going on Carnival or other larger cruise ships. We do like our peace and quiet and find HAL to be perfect for us. Yes there are more advanced ages on board but enjoy our time with them and find very few younger ages aboard.

It really depends on what life style you prefer. Quiet or party down. HAL is more of a quiet cruise line and excels at that type of cruises. Also most HAL ships carry far fewer passengers the the big cruise ships. HAL is building a larger ship today and it still won't even hold half the passengers of the big behemoths of the seas.

The biggest draw for us to HAL is the higher ports visited during a cruise. Yes it may only be adding Half Moon Cay but it is a place that most people enjoy. Carnival uses it as well as HAL since they own the island.

    Cheers

  4. I'm not surprised at the change since the 2 ships are swapping there locations for the Fall/Winter itineraries. Just a way to keep the Captains in a familiar area while trying to get passengers a new location to sail on their favorite ships. I have sailed on the Noordam 3 times and love it but ran out of itineraries in the Caribbean to sail on her. Might just look into Australia/New Zealand sailing if she is there for a couple of years. Cheers

  5. I received an email for an upgrade offer (from a EE to a Vista Suite) $799pp. The email said to phone between 7am-7pm after holding with a recording saying they would be right with me, the next recording said they were closed. I will try my luck on Monday or wait to see if a better offer comes along...

I would try today being Saturday to call. We have spoken with HA on the weekends before in regards to information. Didn't always get the best people since it was the weekend but its worth a try IMO.

  6. Question about mall with Total Wine and More store on Cordova.

Will be staying at the Comfort Suites on S Federal Hwy the night before our cruise and am wondering about the mall as to whether or not it has a full grocery store in it? Since HAL allows us to bring Wine, Water and Pop on board the ship we hope to get Pop and Water close to the Wine store since it is a short walk from the Hotel.

    Thanks for any help.
