  1. There are no private tenders at Lahaina. It will be ship's tenders.

Thanks that could be very slow, but we have priority tendering. I don’t think Ovation has been to this port before ... she carriers 4200 guests so it will be busy. Ship tour sounds like it’s the best option.

  2. Thanks for the comments, we will be on the first tender as we are in a suite so that helps! And I was thinking that we would pick up and return the car rental at the airport as it is open for longer hours, based on my research the other depots are 8-5.

As I mentioned on another thread in this section unless I can book direct with the tour company that runs this shore excursion for the cruise line I’ll think it would be easier to book with Royal Caribbean.

  3. Lots of confusing ideas here.

First, RTH will not be on a big bus. It will be on a 16 or 18 passenger bus. The road is so windy that bigger vehicles can't take it. But as frequently discussed here, doing RTH is a VERY long day from the Lahaina side...it is 45 minutes just to get to the RTH from Lahaina, then 5 or so hours, probably more on the RTH, then more than 45 minutes back, as traffic will be heavier on your return. We have been on Maui almost 30 times, for no less than a week at a time, and can never recommend RTH as a priority for one day visitors.

Yes, tour operators do serve Lahaina, that is how the cruise lines do their tours. Roberts is almost definitely the biggest operator in Hawaii, very commonly used and discussed here. There are some smaller vendors...a little reading or searching on the board will be helpful.

"Must do" and "best" are really vague terms. You "must do" what interests you, not what we tell you to do. Lahaina can be a beach day, a golf day (some great courses here), a luau day (which will only involve a bus for 15 or 20 minutes max, each way), a walk around town day, a beach/resort day, a whale watch day (December through March- some of the best whale watching in the world here), snorkel day (which won't involve a bus at all- some pretty good snorkeling here, but not compared to the Great Barrier Reef), fishing, the list goes on and on... All of these things could be "best", and many more, depending on your interests.

It just takes a little research, an open mind, and perhaps considering the idea that everyone in your group doesn't have to do the same thing.

Thank you I have researched local operators - valley isle don’t service Lahaina port and Hāna tours of Maui don’t answer fb messenger or emails!!! I have also fb messaged and emailed Roberts just waiting for advice.

I didn’t think my questions were confusing I’m just trying to decide what we can do from a tender port that isn’t serviced like the one that POA uses. I don’t like being overcharged by the cruise lines when they mark up shore excursions but having said that some ports aren’t worth risking so I’m trying to decide whether to go with the cruise ship RTH excursion or try to book it myself OR do something else.

I’ve read that the north highway is dangerous and hiring a car seems to be difficult. Hence I thought I would ask cc community for advice.

To email the concierge, use the 2 letter code for ship(i.e EX for Explorer),followed by an underscore then Concierge@rccl.com

The underscore is ONLY between the ships two letters and Concierge.

    i.e

    EX_Concierge@rccl.com

    **For the Rhapsody RH_SuitesConcierge@rccl.com

    **For the Grandeur GR_SuitesConcierge@rccl.com

**On Oasis and Allure you need a 01 or 02 in the email address since there are 2 concierges on each ship

    i.e

    OA_Concierge01@rccl.com

    OA_Concierge02@rccl.com

On ships with Diamond lounge concierge, add the word Diamond in front of Concierge

    i.e

    FR_DiamondConcierge@rccl.com

Is Pretty Shamu on Rhapsody a guy or girl?

I live on the Gold Coast in Queensland and tend to agree with previous poster, you wont see much of Aust / NZ on a cruise ... Land is a much better option.

If you want to do a cruise you could look at the Queensland 7 dayer but I would choose a line that departs from Brisbane. Having said that you must see Sydney and Melbourne as well. It all depends on what interests you and what you like to do.

    Domestic airlines in Aust are:

    Jetstar dot com

    Virgin australia dot com

    Qantas dot com

Jetstar is the low cost airline of Qantas.

    Must see places are:

Great Barrier Reef which can be accessed from many places in Queensland, ie. Mackay, Airlie Beach, Rockhampton, Townsville, Cairns. Best islands are Hayman, Hamilton, Great Keppel, Long Island, Daydream. All are easily accessible by ferry from the mainland.

Ayers Rock, Alice Springs ( central Aust)

Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast which is one hour by car from Brisbane.

Flight times between major cities are:

    Sydney to melbourne 1.5 hours

    Melbourne to brisbane 2.5 hours

    Sydney to brisbane 1.5 hours

    Brisbane to cairns 2 hours

    Brisbane to mackay 1.2 hours

    Brisbane to perth 4 hours

There will be variations to this when daylight savings is on which is october to april. Main impact is between melb, sydney and queensland (brisbane) time as queensland does NOT do daylight saving.

Tell us what you want to do and we can advise further..

    Cheers Aleisha
