I switched from an Oceanview to a GTY balcony for a cruise we did last week. I was nervous because it was way forward (10018). We loved it! Minimal movement and we just got a little more exercise walking to places.

It worked out! Balcony prices dropped below what we paid for oceanview. They ended up letting us do a complimentary upgrade to balcony guarantee. We dont get to pick the cabin, but after looking at what was available for balconies I had no problem with that! Can't wait for our honeymoon!

I'm sailing on the Gem for my honeymoon in August. We had to do the final payment last week and currently have an oceanview room. If prices were to drop closer to the sailing time and balconies were available for something in our price range, is it possible to upgrade by paying the difference? We're after final payment so I'm trying to figure out if I should stop checking prices or not. Thanks!

Thanks for reporting back and attaching the picture. Can hardly wait to be in the exact same spot next month! Did you happen to notice if there were places to book on the spot snorkeling excursions?

There was a stand with snorkeling equipment but I dont think there were any excursions on the beach. When you exit the ship you come through Festival Place which had stands for taxis and I think a few excursions.

My 5yo and I went to Junkanoo Beach right next to the British Colonial Hilton. It was free, the water was clear, it was a 10-15 minute walk from port and perfect for a low-key beach day, which is what we were looking for!

I sailed on the Jewel out of NYC last week and spent our beach day in Nassau at Junkanoo Beach. It was so easy to get to (You actually see it sailing into port)and labeled so there was no confusuion about whether I was in the right spot. I was with my 5yo and she had a great time. It wasnt very crowded. There was a group of slightly rowdier teenagers in the afternoon from one of the ships in port but they stayed in their own corner basically. You can't beat the price and it was perfect for a low key beach day, which is all we wanted. We walked down and had lunch at the Fish Fry, which was also great! I'll try to attach a pic, but this is my first attempt so we'll see how it goes...
